  1. Whilst the staff at the co-op can't really come on here and reply to various issues for obvious reasons, i can say for certain ( as i know people that work there) that the shop is not closing. I believe in February there is maintenance work being done on the store, mini re-fit if you like. Staff are being asked to cover more departments, and once the job cuts are done this will be common place. I think the staff are in an impossible position to be honest, but most are trying to do the best they can whilst working under the threat of redundancy. So try to show some consideration folks especially as it's not the greatest time of the year for it. For the record i do not work for the co-op!
  2. Should try and get this programme to Shetland properly, 5 strangers are you there?
  3. You'd need to be a flippin lotto winner to shop in Aary's gaff, £7.50 for one kitchen utensil, don't he know there's a recession on?
  4. I'd be amazed if onybody except NorthLink get it, frankly im sure it's already in the bag
  5. I realised that after i had pressed enter that i had made an error so i have corrected that for the record. Indeed it was only northbound that was cancelled last week. Still the fact remains given the forecast, tide tables etc, NorthLink should have had a fairly good idea Aberdeen might have been unavailable so why sail? Given the fact on other occasions in better conditions they've stayed tied up.
  6. What's odd though is the fact last tuesday (18th) NorthLink cancelled northwards citing bad weather when in fact the night was reasonable. This makes last night's sailing surprising given the conditions where worse than then. That's what gets me - inconsistent decisions, why sail when you shouldn't, and stay put when you should.
  7. Hrossey down to 6.9 knots a moment ago heading south to Kirkwall, windna fancy that much tonight.
  8. The local grapevine has Tesco's buying this and Ninians next door, perhaps a metro coming soon...there will be a bit of worry amongst local shops now i reckon!
  9. Trio of nice pics here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2018884/Norway-Tall-ships-speed-home-flags-half-mast-race-Britain.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
  10. All you saddos need to get a life, i've seen the lasses off the Steve Irwin in da pubs and sum of them are HOT!! (if their not getting paid , ie their volunteers how do they afford drinks etc). Anyhow if they use this harbour fair play to them, listen the faroese have shafted us in the past (smyril line) so who gives a monkeys if this lot interfere with them, if they want to protest let them it's nowt to worry about, and to think this discussion alone contributes three pages on shetlink what does that say about our lives.... saying that i wish they could hound out this present useless council...
  11. Icepick 239 you assume a lot don't you, sadly all of it wrong. Did i hit a nerve with you then?
  12. The damn place should be bombed.....in this time of cuts, with schools and services slashed to meet budget demands the last thing this island needs is another waste of money project just to keep the middle class council white collar shower happy ????
  13. Lerwick is so backward when it comes to liners it's a wonder any bother coming at all. Shops keep closed (especially Sunday's), you'll always find roadworks galore popping up when the liners start calling, not even a hint at entertaining passengers/locals in town with say live music on the pier or street during their visit, (not bagpipes, as as nice as they are, are only bearable so long). It gets to the stage the passenger's highlights are the charity shops and the Harbour cafe! In essence thinking about it there's really not much for them to do in town.
  14. Hi All Can anyone recommend a reliable handyman/firm that could replace a cracked kitchen window at a reasonable cost? Thanks in advance (***Mod Edit - Moved to Consumer Advice & Resources***)
  15. This is a good one, a brand new webcam on Shurton hill was showing some delightful views towards the Bressay Light, sunrise, ships coming and going etc and just in the last couple of days it has been turned to show what? - yes you've guessed it WIND TURBINES!! (Yawn). I can't think of anything more boring as having a webcam turning on them whizzing around relentlessly in between them disappearing into the mist... Let's hope this "view" is not a permanent one!
  16. Next they'll target Flint's parrot at this rate...
  17. Good chunk if not most of Lerwick was off, the reason?....the hamster on it's wheel at the power station took an unofficial tea break....
  18. Taking the Helliar today as an example your obviously going to have a late arrival in Lerwick if you sail from Hatston gone 3am in the morning, far far to late to guarantee a prompt arrival in Lerwick, even worse at this time of the year. Solution?, well a blindingly obvious one is get the freight vessel turned round at Hatston earlier, and if you have to leave Aberdeen sooner rather than 4pm at present then do it....simples!
  19. Have been today to Flames, Grills & Bites and i'm most impressed, polite staff, nice surroundings, good grub, and best of all the prices are very reasonable....big thumbs up from me!
  20. I would suggest a chat with Anne Goudie of Goudies Funeral Directors, purely for advice purposes because if anybody up here will know best it's her.
  21. No real danger yet of any Mexican/Shetland inter-action this time round as there's no Mexican vessel due up to now, however there is a BRAZILIAN...... On the upside our next generation footballers might improve no end!!
  22. A few years back i discovered a strawberry plant complete with roots in a pot of yoghurt, kinda put me off like
  23. With the big debate raging about the windfarms etc, why don't the council stick a small wind turbine on the centre's roof or surrounding area and help out the running of it a little? Saying that they (the council) would go for something massively OTT & expensive and defeat the purpose anyhow! Just a thought....
  24. I agree with all what has been mentioned above its shameful that yet again the poor, infirm, and elderly are punished for the failings of a council which should have had the decency to resign en mass....just think what even a small slice of that £250,000+ that DC got would have done for so many people and other worthwhile causes.
