  1. Wowee. Near enoff an item a day! I mibee buy somethin online wance every 6 months. I don't tink I even own 1000 things (unless I was tae count every tool in me box, aa me cutlery and yun jar o buttons in da drawer!)
  2. ^ if du has evidence o dat den du should raise it with SEPA https://www.sepa.org.uk/
  3. I'm blyed to see Michael Stout standing. I towt he was an excellent councillor and spoke a lot o sense - https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/07/29/former-councillor-stands-on-transport-ticket/
  4. Thanks, but I wis meaning for predictions specific tae Shetland - will it get weeter, is da gulf stream liklee tae shift etc etc. I'm comin fae a position of ignorance
  5. Do you tink dis is a joke? https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/07/29/candidate-wants-to-return-the-monarchy-to-scotland ".....Walls man Peter Tait who is campaigning to bring the monarchy back to Scotland. The former mussel farmer says he is not interested in discussing any local issues but instead wants to use the Scottish Parliament by-election as a platform to test his political message."
  6. Can somebody explain whit da predictions ir for da Shetland climate as da earth heats up?
  7. @ Ghostrider Du maks some good points, but dirs twaree logical inconsistency dat runs through it aa. Du reckons it's up tae da voters to ken whit dir votin for (fair enyoch), but dat da voters soodna believe da very folk dat should ken i.e. da politicians who are makin da proposals in da first place. So whaa ir folk meant tae believe? And how ir folk meant tae ken whit it is dir goin tae git efter dey vote if du's sayin dat we should ken dat da politicians canna dae whit dey said dey wir goin tae? And den du's sayin da politicians dat we shouldna trust in da first place should noo be geen da chance to deliver whitiver it is dey want, despite da fact it's no whit dey said dey were goin tae dey. Why should we trust dem noo if we shoulda have trusted dem afore? "sae far dir naethin altered aboot Brexit, aathing wi ken noo wis kent tree year ago" Dat's no true. Dirs plenty we didna ken or see comin. As du says desel, it wis aa aspirations afore. I widna hiv minded sae much if it wis a clear majority, but 48/52 whitever wye da vote geed, and based on a pile o lies and aspirations, is joost a scrape through. I see nae problem we puttin da details o da deal(s) on da table and askin da voters whit we tink.
  8. Dat's wan wye o lookin at it, but naebody campaigning for Brexit was even spaekin aboot a no deal scenario at da time - not Boris Johnson, Farage or onybody else. Among some o da things Johnson promised wid be in place wis a free trade agreement, tariff-free access tae EU markets, nae hard Irish border, £350m a week for da NHS, lots o deals we idder countries - it a lang list dat's been ignored or dey came to realise canna be delivered, and now folk are trying to say crashing oot on WTO rules has always been da plan - but dat simply isna da case. Lookin at it anidder wye, if a political party was voted in on da back o a pile o promises dat dey ignored or couldna deliver, den we'd hae da chance o voted dem oot at da next general election. In dis case, Leave made a lot o promises dat dey hiv ignored or canna deliver but dey expect folk to sit on dir hands and let dem do whitever dey want. So, a simple question... noo dat da (lack o) detail is clear, whit's da problem we checkin we folk to see if a No Deal Brexit is what dey want? If dey are, den nae odds.
  9. I don't see how du comes tae dat conclusion. I hae nae particular interest in Scotland becoming independent, but I hae nae problem we folk being asked what dey tink either, particularly when dirs been a change in circumstances.
  10. And here's me tinkin dat regular voting is part o democracy! And things change. Circumstances and plans aroond Brexit (and if we crash oot, Scottish Independence) ir significantly different noo fae da last referendum. Whit's da problem wee checkin if folk are still in agreement?
  11. It looks lik we'll be mibee gettin a Premier Inn AND a Travelodge. I'm no sure whit een I lik da least https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/07/22/travelodge-renews-interest-in-opening-hotel-in-lerwick/ It wid liklee be a good thing for the tourist economy, but it's mibee a shame dat it'll be national chains redder dan locally owned, but dat's da wye o da world.
  12. I'm tinkin Ryan Thomson wid do a good job. He speaks a lot o sense and seems weel grounded. I'm seen some o da idder eens speakin and hivna been aa dat impressed. Wan in particular has been campaignin long and hard on gettin weemin intae UHA but I don't think she's good at makin persuasive arguments and seems to get drawn intae pettiness too easily - no really parliament material.
  13. It's no really an answer tae your question, but Logan air have a discounted compassionate rate for such things. It's still dear, but about a 1/3 aff
  14. I wis joost aboot to post da very same subject! I see Ian Scott is standing for da Fight Austerity, Save our NHS, Save our Welfare State party. Dat's catchy, or F.A.S.S.O.N.H.S.S.O.W.S. for short. Onybody fancy playin Countdown wee dat? My best is swoosh and no-shows
  15. Ghostrider - whit does du tink aboot da 2019 EU elections? Dey seemed tae indicate mair folk wanted to byde in da EU dan laeve, and opinion polls regularly say da same. Do we hae tae laeve withoot a deal despite the majority o folk no wantin dat tae happen? A No Deal Brexit was niver on da table at da time of da referendum. Opinion polls in Scotland are reckoning dirs growing support for Scottish independence and rejoining da EU if da UK laeves da EU. Is dat a gamble worth takin? George - wheesh we dee pleapsin
  16. Da best thing wid be for anider referendum based on da actual deal, or a general election I doot. Yun pair seem determined tae haul wis oot o da EU withoot a deal, which wisna whit dey wir promisin at da time of da referendum. We wir telt dat da EU wid be trippin ower itsel tae mak deals we wis, and noo da deal is on da table dey dunna lik it, and so tae appease a rightwing minority and get demsels intae da top job dey are going to crash wis oot o Europe. And dir promisin tax cuts for da rich at da time wir economy can least afford it. Whit a pair o lyin turds!
  17. I'm no been paying attention tae da news fur twaree weeks, but I'm assuming Farage is in noo in prison for some sort o 'financial irregularities', Bojo is da new judge on Britan's Got Talent and Corbyn is workin as a zookeeper. Is dat right?
  18. So, whit do you tink o dis! "SSE takes control of Viking Energy wind farm project" https://www.shetnews.co.uk/2019/05/30/sse-to-fund-viking-project-from-now-on/
  19. ^ it's fine to see somebody accept dey wir mistaken. Good on dee! Dir's too mony folk dat hiv painted demsels intae a corner we Brexit and da EU and try to bend facts to suit dir opinion.
  20. It wid be a job tae get onybody to pit dir hands up! Could be da glass manufacturer for an impurity, da frame manufacturer for no allowing for expansion, or da contractor for somehow knocking it to waeken it or no fittin it right. Most liklee dey'd blame each idder and you'd go aroond in a circle! Can you claim it on your hoose insurance?
  21. Here's a couple o articles dat list possible causes including thermal stress and Nickel Sulphide Inclusions (which I'd never heard o) https://www.constructionspecifier.com/spontaneous-glass-breakage-why-it-happens-and-what-to-do-about-it/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_glass_breakage
  22. I'm heard o it happen afore but never sussed oot why. Wan theory is dat if one part of da pane is a at a different temperature fae da idder den da difference in expansion wid cause a 'thermal stress', and wee da nature o safety glass it wid cause da whole pane to shatter. It might be caused by somethin lik faily sudden direct sunlight landin on wan section while da idder section is still in shade (in da shadow o a wall fur example). I think it wid need to be a fairly sudden change though as dir wid need to be a difference in temperature within da pane. Mibee dat combined we an impurity dat wid cause an inherent weak spot? Whitiver da reason, it shouldna happen in a modern window!
  23. I've worked wee glazing a fair bit but hiv never seen onything lik yun. Not that it wid cause it, but had dir been ony exterme changes of temperature?
