  1. In spite of the efforts of so many to keep the sides of our roads the way they should be, the *heads in our society still seem to take pleasure in dumping stuff out of the car window. I have been counting the plastic bottles on the way home tonight, dear oh dear! I think we should attach cameras to hydro poles in bad areas and try to collar these antisocial idiots. A suitable punishment might be to dress them up in prison attire and make them clean the sides of the roads every Saturday for a year or two. Start maybe at Lerwick and get a cup of tea in Cunningsburgh if the road is clean. If not start again. It would help to have a regimental sergeant major type to hit them with bits of wood from time to time for motivation purposes, though that may be frowned upon. Just an idea of course, but hey! we need some action here, and without the bleeding hearts brigade.
  2. I remember being asked some years ago to provide a quote for work on a number of council houses. One of the houses I was told had been done by the DLO but they were far too expensive. Isn't that a damning indictment of their own workforce? What this man was saying was that their own council workers took too long so they had to ask a private company. So as far as I'm concerned the ludicrous figure for a cycle path is probably costed on the average output of the DLO. Why are there so many council employees if the council cant afford to hand them contracts?
  3. Bluevac sucks! Nothing wrong with the Unst folks!
  4. I aint anti Welsh, English, or Irish, but hey! why did we invite English Property Developers here in the first place? Can't really blame the English, we invited them! Name him!
  5. ECWC1972 has a point I suppose, though I certainly don't like the idea of the new charges. If you go into an Edinburgh pub for a pint it can easily cost you a fiver. So a day's parking can cost you less than a pint a day, or in some cases maybe a half pint. Doesn't sound like much if you put it that way, does it? Perhaps if a long holiday you could pay a friend to run you, and ease the pressure on the car park!
  6. ECWC1972 has a point I suppose, though I can't say I like the new charges. Everything is relative, if you go into an Edinburgh pub for a pint it can easily cost you a fiver. So I suppose the parking can cost you less than a pint of beer a day, or in some cases maybe a half. Doesn't sound like much if you put it that way.
  7. Does audi-ya-do drive an audi by any chance? Have the police given him a hard time for speeding or some other "minor" offence perhaps? He seems to despise the police, I wonder why! The police in this country face a difficult task, they have to face the drunken violent idiots every weekend in every UK city, and get criticised when someone gets hurt. doesn't matter if it's them it seems. They track down all sorts of thieves and violent individuals only to see them released by the courts with a slap on the wrists. They chase car thieves and send them to court, see them released, and chase them again the next weekend when they steal another car. Police get hurt on a regular basis by drunken violent idiots when they should taser them immediately. Why should they struggle with these people, why not just taser them after one warning. If the offender gets hurt it's his own fault. Police were on the front line with the nerve gas incident, and always during terrorist incidents. If you get prosecuted for a minor traffic offence, well, you took your chances, stop bleating about it, and pay up. Nobody to blame but yourself. Cry in your beer if you must.
  8. Surely common sense will prevail here and the powers that be recognise the fact that these "intruders" had no right to be in his house anyway. They are the only criminals here as far as I'm concerned.
  9. So the US government are issuing an ultimatum it seems, stop shooting seals around fish farms or we wont buy your fish! Is this the same government that overturned the ban on importing wildlife trophies from Africa and elsewhere, including endangered species such as the elephant? Has this caring and concerned US government considered banning its own ranchers from shooting coyotes that are harassing their livestock? Is this the same US that is still using steel leghold traps that are banned here and elsewhere because they are inhumane? Is this the same US government that seems particularly unconcerned about its gunslinging population shooting each other? Fish farmers here have spent a fortune on protective measures to try and avoid shooting rogue seals, but if all else fails have a right to protect stock, the same as a chicken farmer with a fox. And to be blunt there is no shortage of seals around these shores so the shooting of the odd rogue here and there is no threat to the species. That last statement leaves me open to abuse but just trying to be fair and realistic here.
  10. My apologies are in order I think Mikeyboy, my mistake. But hey! nobody's inflammable!
  11. Cheers Windwalker, maybe the others will find a reason to laugh at some point.
  12. Matter of taste I guess, or as some might say the lack of it.....
  13. Q. What's the difference between an oral and an anal thermometer? A. The taste!
  14. ** mod edit - some sections of this comment have been removed ** Playlist needs to join the real world, and (as has been said) work for a few weekends in licensed premises in Lerwick just to experience the flak and abuse that flies around. I think Playlist has led a very sheltered life, works in social care, reads only the Guardian, and would benefit from some real life experiences. That kind of experience doesn't come from social worker guide books but from a common sense approach to life. Sometimes the only way some people learn is when they take some punishment. This guy might well need further fractures before the message gets through. I have also worked in bars, my sympathy lies exactly where it belongs, with the barman. I am so so sorry Playlist that my attitude disgusts you, but I believe if someone is giving me grief then I have every right and reason to give him some. If he is warned several times and continues, well well, if he gets hurt that's all down to him. I am happy to help anyone who needs help, but I'm damned if I'm going put up with an ignorant nuisance.
  15. Or alternatively in a deeply caring and concerned society perhaps we could insist on there being a fully qualified social worker on the payroll. I'm sure such a person would cope perfectly well with this kind of individual, by talking and reasoning with him for an hour or two until the police arrive. No need for a doorman at all perhaps. If extra help was required could always phone the Samaritans or the Salvation Army. No need for a doorman at all perhaps at any venue, just make offenders a nice cup of tea to calm them down. No more ugly scenes with policemen struggling with drunken idiots, out of control crackpots spitting, lashing out and kicking at officers trying to arrest them. No more, (as Windwalker describes), muscle bound doormen thumping these people obviously too drunk to defend themselves. Really!!!
  16. Considering the situation in Police Scotland, does anyone really believe they have the manpower to respond immediately to every drunken idiot demanding entry or refusing to leave licensed premises? There would need to be a full time task force, and the details of every persistent offender would need to be catalogued on that £60,000,000 computer that doesn't work. The SNP haven't had much luck with computers, have they? The barman and the doorman will always be at the sharp end here, join the real world!
  17. Dont see why it cant be discussed, incidents such as this can affect any of us, might well be caught in the middle. Need to have faith in the justice system and this wasn't a fair result. Simple as that!
  18. Well Playlist, I thought you weren't going to post any more, couldn't resist another though eh? I suppose the barman should have phoned the police on every occasion, I would think they would been a little peeved with this guy too after repeated calls. If they had finally dragged him off to the cells, I suppose he would have complained about bruising. At the end of the day he had a broken wrist here, hardly life threatening. Let's just hope he has learnt a lesson here and doesn't go around annoying other people, perhaps provoking them into a criminal record situation. The law does or should make allowances for that provocation.
  19. Well Playlist, if I was trying to enter premises where I had no right to be, and on a regular basis , then I don't really think you could say it was no fault of my own. This guy got a broken wrist because he wouldn't be told. His demise came through his own idiocy, he was presumably barred for a reason. There will always be a bleeding heart somewhere about whatever the circumstances. Save your sympathy for deserving causes.
  20. Why even consider revoking the license of the Thule bar manager? Apparently this customer though barred chose to enter the premises 2 or 3 times every month. If he hadn't entered the premises though warned off many times, he wouldn't have got a broken wrist. I think he should be prosecuted for wasting the court's time, and made to pay for his medical treatment. The barman should be excused for his understandable reaction to this nuisance. The world's gone mad.
  21. That's what we want back now George.....
  22. So the EU suddenly decide we can have a comprehensive free trade agreement as long as we leave access to our fishing grounds as it is. What a surprise! They are well aware of the value of our fishing grounds, it's time for our politicians recognise this too. Please let's tell 'em, you've been raking it in here for a long time, but it's now over. We'll sell you the fish.
