  1. Wikipedia! Hahahahaha. The font of all knowledge. If it says it on Wikipedia it must be true!
  2. What has happened to the Radio Shetland service on the Internet? I can't even find it anymore. The problems started with it when they changed the player format, then they changed the homepage and now they seem to change it every other month, until now it has plain disappeared! Or am I just getting it all wrong?
  3. Arabia Terra says; What will be the percentage shareholding of the SIC through it's varied and many entities?
  4. I whole-heartledly agree with Ghostrider. The Council are utterly incapable of running a business; creating a realistic budget or even balancing a cheque-book. A cursory review of past debacles involving them over the last 40 years will reveal a very compelling trend of mismanagement, poor investment judgement, leadership by committee rather than delegated responsible executive team and the all important petty internal politics for favoured projects. Within the "corporate structure" of the various and sundry entities the SIC trades under are a number of quite succesful ventures and some very good ideas and people. There is also an embarrasing number of utter failures that have been swept under the carpet and hoped they would just go away. If they are determined to run a business of this nature, they need to appoint a management team responsible to their "shareholders", with all the accompanying risks that running such an entity entails. Business Plans; Profit and Loss; Quarterly and Annual reporting. Open meetings for the customer and shareholder to ask questions of the executive management. Distribution or reinvestment of the profits. An accountable board of directors just like a real business. The ability to fire the management if their business plans fail to meet their goals or their behaviour fails to meet the norms of business. You will be paying top-bucks to attract a management team like this, but they in turn will be able to tell you if; a. It has a hope in hell in succeeding (because the either won't come or they won't stay) b. Be accountable for meeting all the performance conditions determined for the business - and recieve bonuses if they exceed them! The last thing required is some high-cost consultant accounting company who knows utterly sausage-all about power generation, distribution or responsibility to the customer coming in to hose the Council yet again. If you don't know what you are doing, then hire the people who do. If you haven't assembled a team of individuals with the credentials to operate this as a profitable business venture, then run while the going is good. These are precisely the reasons why Government should never be involved in business ventures that involve potential risk! They should stick to businesses they are well versed and talented at, such as taxation - money for old rope, guaranteed income! Even the government couldn't screw up taxing the masses - or could they? Oh, and I am 100% against the entire windfarm as it currently stands.
  5. http://www.forvik.net/evidence.php I am shocked to read the facts on this website!
  6. OPM Definition: An affliction that is prevalent amongst bankers; stockbrokers; government entities and pie in the sky start-up business opportunities funded with Other Peoples Money!
  7. But a loaded one is way better!
  8. Must be time for the cooncil to swoop in then!
  9. I believe a small Hadron collider is secretly being built on Forvik! According to what I heard in the pub, anyway!
  10. And the "service" is crap! When will Tesco be offering house selling services?
  11. Has the world ended yet? Nearly been a week since Tesco opened. I though it would be sudden, fast and terminal. http://www.theplace4.co.uk/elvisseeninbaghdad/tesco.gif Get through the hype - just tell us straight why you hate them so much.

  14. The kindest thing you can do to either living creature in the above statement is.... release it from your grip .....dork, get a life. The same applies to fish!
  15. The kindest thing you can do to a Chicken is kill it and eat it. Same applies to Sheep!
  16. Looking closely at that picture of the Kingdom, I noticed a small but discernable object in the sky in the middle of the shot. I ran it through an extremely high-tech (classified) imaging programme that I downloaded from the Internet and found: - http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/roswell-ufo-crash-1.jpg Now I know this stuff is serious! Obviously some very high level surveillance is being carried out by ALIENS! It is pretty obvious that word of Forvik has spread around the Universe and it is far beyond the hands of the UK or EU Government!
  17. Don't they publish the Forvick Times?
  18. Apparently the reason for taking the Linga is to accomodate a full variety of Council service vehicles to ensure they win over the hearts and minds of the locals. Additionally, it is believed there is a fair chance she may get stranded and they would get the insurance proceeds - at least according to some of the more sceptical pier-head skippers! In a move very similar to the Falklands campaign, there is a plan to bring a full range of SIC services to Forvick, to calm the dissent. In addition to the many part time Vikings from the Jarl's Squad, Princes Harry and William, the Linga is to bring a road building crew; pier building crew; a gritter; a Doctor, Nurse and Dentist. The SIC is intending on manning a field office immediately to ensure the population receive full services and support from the Council - it is hoped that a full ferry service will be available by August at the latest. A sub Post Office has already been commisioned with a PortaCabin and Tesco are said to be opening a small branch there. For the interim period while accomodation will be a major issue, a cruise ship is being chartered to provide accomodation and lie offshore. Crews will be moved on and off the island by Chinook helicopter. The Airstrip is one of the highest priorities (a pub is the highest) and AIR SIC, after being used for the initial bombing raids to soften up the opposition, will commence an hourly service to Tingwall, with direct flights to London at 07:00 every morning. I'm surprised no-one ever thought of doing this before!
  19. Just saw on the News, that Fidel Castro is offering the support of Cuba. In the clip they showed the two leaders pointing at a map of Forvick and detailing the location of Da Grice's Voe, where it is believed the Linga may lead the landing assault, for a combined marine and airborne beach-head.
  20. I have heard a little more since yesterday. The Queen has ordered William and Harry to fly to Shetland and lead the Jarl's squad into action. They are to leave with a fleet of Chinook helicopters as soon as the stag-party season is completed and the resources are available. The Forvickian leader is appealing for assistance from other freedom loving nations, for assistance in repelling the attacking hoards. Currently only Robert Mugabe has pledged military assistance, and he is sending a battalion of crack troops to defend the independent and brave nation that dared stand to the UK tyrants. Mohamed Al-Fayed is pledging hampers and other supplies. Both have said that they are awaiting notification of the reopening of the Forvick International airport, that has apparently been placed out of commission. The Jarl's Squad met at a secret emergency session last night at the Galley Shed. Apparently the session went very well, as no-one seems to be able to recall the motions and decisions that were made. It was agreed that it would be difficult to mobilize the force at such short notice, due to the time of the year, and the fine weather. Another secret session has been planned for tomorrrow night - hopefully we will hear what goes on.
  21. Apparently the Queen has contacted the Lord Lieutenant directly, to mobilise the Jarl's Squad to immediately retake Forvick and restore control to the Crown. She asked that the task be completed immediately, but the Jarl's Squad is having difficulty raising a full contingent due to conflicts due to holidays, fishing, hay and silage commitments. However, they have assured the Monarch, that they will get right on with it, as soon as a full contingent can be raised. The Forvickians have been advised of the imminent arrival of the Jarls Squad, and be prepared to host the conquering mass with Reestit Mutton soup for 30 and a well stocked bar. They are going to attack in the Linga, assaulting the beach-head in a scene reminiscent of the D-Day assault. To mark the presence of the Jarl, the Linga will have a dragons head installed. As is typical of these events, the following day will be a holiday for everyone in Shetland! Should be interesting!
