  1. However he only remained in the cells for 20 minutes before being called back to the court room, where the sheriff apologised for what he had said earlier. “It’s an important matter for you, I understand that. It is easier for all of us to deal with this in a civilised way.†There followed a 90 minute debate between Mr Hill, Mr Mackenzie and the sheriff about the history of Shetland similar events to the above youtube story... Go Captain !!
  2. So what is the true situation with Mareel ?, I have listened to various building tradesmen and apparently its a bit of an expensive disaster? Council seem very quiet on this.
  3. I can see that C. Booker and Arabia Terra sit with viewpoints at the opposite ends of the spectrum on this subject. From green fingers telegraph link I would reccommend reading the comments left by the other readers. How ever this question of subsidy really needs to be investigated, after all the V.E. business model is based upon subsidy, and of course there is the gigantic expense of the extension cable to the mainland to factor in to the price. But in the meantime here are some interesting facts about present and future global energy production Last year oil accounted for 35% of global energy use (mostly for transport), it is expected higher prices will encourage people to seek alternative but the truth of the matter is that it simply cant happen overnight, it is unlikely to happen within 50 years. Even if a new source of energy were discovered today, it would take a huge amount of time & traditional energy to bring it to the global population, perhaps 50 to 100 years. In the meantime oil is being sought in every corner of the planet, from deep ocean, to deep desert to arctic regions. The fastest growing of alternative oil production is the Alberta Tar sands, present production rates are at 1.5 million barrels a day & projected to increase to 3 million barrels a day by twenty - twenty. And they reckon they have 170 billion barrels within these tar sand reserves, the second largest concentration of oil after saudi arabia ....? I am not sying this is a good thing , just a fact. Which again dashes Arabia Terra's mantra of ' 10 years to save the planet'
  4. Hey mhutch , have you seen the film deliverance? maybe you were in it? I bet you play a mean accordian! You dont really have any clue what you are talking about..... to be suggesting leaving gallons of methadone out on door steps at night is a direct indication of your total ignorance on this subject.
  5. I write to applaud Ghostrider on his last 2 posts, the most rational of the viewpoints I have ever read on this thread.
  6. It seems the trust in the lib-dems is sliding in other parts too! http://callingengland.blogspot.com/2011/03/libdems-lose-deposit.html
  7. And it will only make the money if the dodgy subsidy holds up, It might hold up long enough to make the sharks who are directly involved stinking rich but that will be about it. Oh yes and all the contracters involved will make a decent enough pay during the building process. In fact the " jobs for the boys" during that period is the only good thing that I can see in it.
  8. AT I do admire your total conviction regarding AGW. And I am with you in your desire to leave the planet in as good health as we found it. But.... It is you that is in denial, I have recently listed various example of massive global fossil fuel extraction projects that will be going on from today to well over 10 years time. Like a religous man being informed that god does not exist , you just ignored those facts and carried on with your fanatical ravings. Pure denial at its best.... Do you really think that global windmill coverage will make oil , gas and coal obselete within this 10 years to save the world scenario you are peddling?. I welcome the transition to a clean energy future, but step number one, of which knowbody talks , is that of simply reducing our present energy consumption rates which could easily be done without any significant reduction of living standards, much more readily achievable. Green energy needs to be developed in as near harmony to the environment as possible, that means getting the most reasonable amount of energy generation for the least consumption of resources and ecological disturbance. Viking Energy doe not meet this criteria and will not save the world.
  9. If that's where you're getting your information, then I'm not surprised you're a denier. It's pure propaganda. If you want an honest source of information, try here: http://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php But is this not just more propaganda from the other end of the spectrum?. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle...
  10. For the 2nd time - i am not blaming anybody! an apology will still be accepted. a few...? 2,3,4 , a grain ? twartree ?
  11. And anyway I stated 90 times in the last few decades you just scanned what I posted and jumped to your pre-conceived idea. Go figure out how many more cars in china since 1970 or on the planet for that matter! this link demonstrates my point. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/business/2010-11/25/content_11608372.htm
  12. Fair comment that some of my figures are not 100% accurate. The point of the post was to demonstrate that reduction of global fossil fuel use is not going to reduce within 10 years and those points I expressed completely back that up, it might reduce in 20 or 30 years if reserves become depleted or the mass extinction of the human species takes place as Arabia Terra Predicts. You jump to the conclusion that I am blaming others for resource consumption and dont want them to enjoy the lifestyles we have. At no point did I say any such thing. It is a fact though that these 2 nations of over 2 billion people are developing their economies to enjoy the lifestyle that we have had for many years now. You have arrived at that opinion with no evidence to back it up, an apology will be accepted.

  14. I agree with Bobdahog, waffle from Shetland Peat. Hundreds of millions of Chinese have increased the wealth to the point of moving up from bicycle or moped to Motor car. Car numbers have increased x 90 times in China in the last few decades. Thay are busy building vast new motorways. The same can be said of India with regard to the number of people who are becoming consumers the same as we in the West. Austalia have declared they are increasing coal production by 80% over the next 10 years. Russia have declared they will maintain oil production at 500 million barrels per year for the next 10 years. 100 more offshore oil drilling rigs will enter the global fleet in coming years. Vast swathes of virgin hard wood rain forest continues to get cut down. There is know noticible change of our consumerist lifestyle here in the west. I am pointing out that Arabia Terra's time schedule of 10 years to save the planet by reducing fossil fuel use is not going to happen , not in the slightest. So if anybody believes this prophecies of doom, you better stockpile as much tinned foods as you can and get yourselves some good quality fire arms. The game is up if you really believe this. It is the fact that this prophecy of doom is being peddled to promote the building of the Viking Energy industrial wind farm that I dont agree with. The V.E. wind farm will reduce global co 2 output as much as farting in the bressay gut factory would freshen that atmosphere. As I said before it would most probably take +20 years and vast quantities of the remaining oil reserves to build the utopian green energy infrastructure that is dreamt of, so to late (if you believe it).
  15. A friend pointed out that if the numbers of the windfarm protest march were projected out to the whole of the UK. It would have been a march over 1 million strong on the streets of London. What with the general nature of the local population to just grumble amongst themselves about the big issues with out speaking out, the march on saturday does demonstrate a massive opposition. I know many people opposed to V.E. who did not attend the march.
  16. Where does this fighure of 10 years that we must save the planet come from? In light of the rest of the human civilisations continuing consumption of resources what exactly are you saving? It does not address the problems you claim what so ever And the wealth generation is a complete fallacy, if they cant maitain finance for schools and hospitals etc etc then how can they sudsidise electricity generation on such a vast scale? In fact what the pro windfarm are claiming is this will maintain our wealth of the oil boom era ! Wealth for what I ask? To maintain our buying power to keep on consuming ! I note you ignored my last post about planetery resource consumtion figures, whats wrong ? Do these facts not fit with this "10 years to save the planet"? By the way that was 500 million barrels oilper year the russians will produce. Another interesting development is the drilling into coal formations that are too deep to mine. They will then pump in some form of acid to form a chemical reaction and hey presto ! hydro carbon gas will come out. This is coming online soon in Europe. http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file19143.pdf
  17. I am going to have to burst your bubble Arabia Terra, the viking energy wind farm as proposed is not going to save the planet , it's not going to save one single lump of coal or drop of oil. It will have a massive impact on our local environment and the environment of many others , from moving millions of cubes of our hillsides around and digging vast seabed trenches from here to the mainland. Scouring other peoples landscapes for rare earth , copper and other hard to get minerals and metals . It will be just another cog in this capitalist resource consuming machine into which we are all locked, thanks to the monetery economic system of present. Here are a few facts to burst your bubble :- Russia has confirmed it will maintain crude oil production at 500 million barrels for the next 10 years , destroying Siberian rain forest to get at these remote resources Australia has confirmed that the countries coal mining industry will increase production by another 80 % over the next 15 years, most of which willl go to feed the mega giant chineses economy. The offshore oil industry will have a further 100+ drilling rigs added to the global fleet over the next 10 - 15 years as well , with new offshore support vessels being produced at a rate of probably 1 a week. I know of one company that was building at the rate of a new boat every 2 weeks so that is probably a conservative estimate. Thats not to mention offshore windfarm construction and support vessels which are also enjoying a building boom ! Our resource consuming civilisation continues undiminished, in fact it will easily take all the remaining resources to create this clean energy utopia of which you dream! More than 300 million Chinese have become slightly better than poor working class and they all want to taste the good life, similarily so do further 100's of million across India and various other developing countries. They all want a bite of the pie, and who are we living in well fed luxury to deny them? The increased wealth of these nations has changed the farming & natural landscapes of many other parts of the globe, New Zealand for instance recently announced the cows now out number the human population in their lands , now over 4 million methane belching cows where their were none a short few hundred years ago, similar figures such as these will be found in many other countries where they cow never trod before. So in summary, give up on this Viking energy will save the world crap ! It is a blatant untruth. By the way did you ever watch the whole Zeitgeist movie ? -http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7065205277695921912# I did expect you to have an opinion on that one?
  18. What a pamphlet the lib dems gave us in this weeks shetland times . They could have said it all in one sentence really - " we are aware of many problems, but we cant do anything about any of them" Does anybody trust the lame democrats?
  19. What can you make of it .....? http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ybyxp/Louis_Theroux_Ultra_Zionists/ I cant see how there can ever be peace in the region.
  20. The number of cases of lib dem politicians saying or pledging one thing to the people they promise to truthfully represent and then doing the exact opposite is quite astounding. Having personally witnessed Tavish betray us over a fishing pledge a few years back, it appears the were all at it last night . A vote on an IN / OUT referendum on E.U. Membership http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12340799 :- From Daily Telegraph- Last night, MPs decided, by an overwhelming majority, not to allow such a vote. Only 26 of our 650 representatives, 20 of them Tories, backed Peter Bone’s amendment, which would have treated a “No†vote to any future treaty as a vote to leave the EU. This was, of course, precisely what the Lib Dem manifesto promised just nine months ago. But, to a man and woman, the Lib Dems trooped through the lobbies against their own election pledge. Coast guard stations and schools closing , most expensive fuel in the U.K. Mass dumping of marine food sources ongoing.... What have the liberal democrats ever done for us?
  21. I see the S.I.C. has made page 13 of this months edition of privatwe eye in an article called - BLOWING AWAY It begins with a history of how millions of pounds of community funds were given away to chums of senior councillors to fund salmon farms - " the fishy smell still lingers" It then gives a description of the viking windfarm plan with various figures and details attached. It finishes on the scandal of SIC Councillers going against the advice of its own planning officers led by the convener " Sandy Clueless Cluness" and that they have been reported to the standards commision for scotland on the grounds of conflict of interest as they all sit as trustees on the charitable trust. It finishes with the sentence - " The question for shetlanders now is what to do about a "community charitable trust" that the community no longer trusts".

  23. 95% of all money is digital... http://vimeo.com/13770061
  24. Money = Debt If all loans were repaid there would be no money in circulation - the money to pay back all the interest does not exist The stock market buys and sells debt - FOR PROFIT !! We taking part in an infinite growth paradigm Basically the entire global economic system requires an ever increasing number of consumers to borrow and spend more money to consume more resources- It is the ultimate ponzi scheme. This is not possible on a finite planet. Tunisia and Egypt - probably only the begining.............
