Looking at that masive list i see Tescos is not the only firm in this project. Looking back it makes me wonder if this forum subject is not a set up?? Wonder if its not one of the other retailers (or ex employee) trying to get us to stop using Tescos so we use their shop instead?????? I'm with you on there! the private sector have done nothing to keep up with the public, get on to them for falling behind. I dont see why the Yellow vans seem to get on folks goat so much, i think there trimming the tops of the trees by cutting them, cleaners, cooks, and closing the junior youth clubs and all the other small jobs, its the top brass with there masive wages, where is where to hit and shed loads more money

Government's Workfare programme Boycot the goverment! its their idea and I'm sure plenty other employers' will try this on too. It's slave labour, just the kind of things the torrys like. However if i had been unemployed long term I'd do anything to get something current on my CV.

As I'm not all that great on spelling and grammer, which some folk seem to get grest joy of pointing out, I feel they are a time and a place where it matters and where it does not. for example signs and notices - this i think its very importaint that the correct puntuation and spelling is correct, like Jim's Garage, toys R us with the R the wrong way round. I dont like the use of a z instead of an s - especialy when folk think they are being trendy and down with the kidz! All it teached them/us is to spell wrong! Like me we need all the help we can get!! It drives me wild when (and sometimes they think its arty) when everything is in lower case letters. Like blue peter (on the TV) I also see it in lots of local events posters. sometimes with no paragraphs or uppercase letters. I just dump them in the bin. Then there is places like shetlink, facebook and in texts where who cares? The main point is to get the basic message across, and it shoudn't matter

Maybe every council employee that gets paid say over 60k could loss 5k in there wage, this 5k would keep all the lowpaid staff that they are targeting in the cuts being proposed

One thing perhaps the Shetland Times might do for us is produce a table with the difrent subjects like Cinema, windmills, Judane, or trust info and other diffrent subjects/information which has happend since the last election, and if the diffrent councellors voted for it or not. Everyone then can deside if they want to vote for them again - or not ofcourse!

No one notice that unless volinteers come forward, that all junior youth clubs are to close in Shetland, with all funding being removed. Thats all clubs that primary children go to will close! So what hapens to them now? Some clubs cant get paid staff to turn up never mind people doing it for nothing, but the sports lot will still go to the island games costing us what?!

Yes i agree there, this road is safe enough to put pre-school children on for nursery, then unsafe for primary children, then back being safe for secondary children. It's a poor grasp of straws thats laughable sometimes. We would all like a school on our back doorstep but we cant aford that anymore. I hear they are more children in Gulberwick than the whole of Northmavine (for 3 schools) and they are bussed to Lerwick's Sound School

Couldn't have said better myself. This men are on call all through the winter with the theat of getting phoned in what would be the middle of my night. So i for one appreceiate any salt on any roads. I have family south and they think the difrence on what we get as a service is 10x what they get! So be glad we live in Shetland and not Scotland mainland. Then you would have something to moan about!!

I came in at 8.50 and i thought it was fine. I'm quite chuffed now since you all say it was so terible. I'm looking forward to a good drop of snow to see if i notice any difrence. I do think if folk have tyers/cars not sutable for the bad roads, perhaps they should take the bus that mornings. All buses are in the toon for 9am so it may be a better option for some

i came in the south road at 10 to 9 on Friday morning and i thought they roads were fine. I met a very long que at the Black Gate going 5 or 10 mph i thought they had been an acedent, but by the time you got to Lerwick it was nothing??? It was purly drivers going to slow or having cars with rubish tyres on so they crawl at VERY slow pace. In my view casuing more disruption to the other road users than the actual conditions should have caused Some cars need a run at a hill to get to the top going at a snales pace seems to make things worse. The main problems with the Shetland roads is some drivers going to dam slow ( like the guys above says you need cars on the salted roads to make the salt work). I change to winters tyers in School October Holidays and they come of in the Easter holidays, with this I very rarly have problems getting about. I think 'we' are too quick to blame the council for things we could do something about ourselves, you only have to ask family or friends who do live in the scottish mainland, any of them they will tell you how great a service we realy do get. Last winter my family and neighbours had to hire a JCB to do their road (in town) as the council was to busy clearing the main roads. I think this will come to us when the cuts realy do set in.

Oh come on!. Tesco did not destroy Clives any more than the Co-op did. Internet shopping as in Amazon and Play.com with their vat free sales from the Channel Islands destroyed Clives. By all means blame Tesco for things they have done but leave them alone when they are innocent. I'm with you there. No other shop closed clives or or any onther shop in Lerwick or any other small town. WE did by not using their busness and by shopping somewhere else. End of story! However the other additional reason may be the shops themselves by either over charging for goods or services, offering bad service/poor customer service etc. Thus the shoppers refuse to use them, then they close from lack of use. Sometimes the actual staff are great but the owners are the problem! They are plenty shops that i have refused to use over the years for the above reason, sometimes i have paid even more for the item local or south, through refusing to use that perticuler shop/s for the above reasons. The customer has the right to go where ever they want, just look back on the number of tv shops or grosers that used to be on the street over the mast few decades. Why pay £17 for a DVD, where it is £14 else where in town and even cheaper on the internet? Back to the point i would like a Lidil in Lerwick

Someone was going to do this, but i think after they did the business plan it fell through. I think they had the idea lodged with the enterprise co. this stops others folk pinching they idea (and poss funding) i think??? They were questionairs going about the toddler groups not long ago, but dont know what happend, again they might know at Market House. The thing is would the Shetland folk aford to go enough to cover running costs

You should go to Market House they will help you set up any new groups you want. You could also speak the the local Health Visitors, they might help you too. good luck

Why? Are you happy going into dark and dingy pubs - im not, and i dont. That kind of pub is well catered for here, i was aplying that we need something diffrent from what we have, giving customers (us) better choice. I sometimes feel the dark and dingy places have dodgy folk in the corners dealing in whatever is dodgy at the time, not that that would hapen here, but i wouldnt go into pubs like that south. I also think if its minging this side of the counter, what the hell is it like in the kitchen and places we cant see.

You should have phoned Shetland Arts at the time, only way you will see it now is by downloading it off the internet as a pitate or hold on untill the DVD comes out. It was kind of old when it was up at New-Year, plus the January and Febuary films are set now with the films out over the Christmas period, so that would leave you March, it would be out on DVD by then. March films will be, i persume, mainland Jan/Feb films.

S&H building or St Olaf Hall would be great pubs, the point of wheather or not we have to many pubs is one thing, but i think we have to many of the same kind of pubs, ie. dark, dingy, dark brown wood from the 70/80s, AND looks like they need a dam good deep clean! What we need is new bright, light with good food, family place to go (daytime/early evening) then fine for anyone later on. I think they pubs here see us as money for old rope so there is no need to compeet with each other on who is the best because they are enough of us to fill them all, regardless of the condition of the building. I think there best and only asset is the good staff in each of the premises.

I think it will be very interseting what 4 days a month free will do the the use of the Garrison. I am looking forward to seeing lots more touring drama coming up from south, that if there is any money to actualy do it! budgets have all be cut!
