  1. Yup, that's true. Well played Delting!
  2. The current Burn-The-McCanns-At-The-Stake Movement being championed so righteously on Shetlink by KOYAANISQATSI seems to be a direct response to their domination of the news agenda. I agree that coverage by the 24-hour outlets has sometimes been laughable in its lack of value, but that's not really the fault of the McCanns, who (perhaps) were and still are doing whatever they can to find their daughter. The tide seems to be turning against them as "Portuguese officials" are being quoted in newspapers all over Europe detailing exactly what the case against them entails - And they are now of course legally unable to refute any of these allegations (some of which are ridiculous IN MY VIEW) owing to their status as "arguidos". Whatever happens - KOYAANISQATSI's blind certainty that murder and an ensuing large conspiracy theory solve the riddle of Madeleine's disappearance is intriguing. Perhaps the Portuguese authorities should interview a friend of mine whose psychological profiling of Kate McCann all but assured her guilt - His summation: "She hes a bad eye in her heed."
  3. Why should they have to though Stoichkov? And commit to playing all their games in Lerwick when they have their own pitches? I have no doubt after this "experimental" season that the Works League will begin burgeoning over the next two years - Be interesting to see how they handle it. I maintain that the current set-up will be to the long-term detriment of Shetland football - But severely doubt it will be changed.
  4. Just unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. A little story: March 2002 - France 5-0 Scotland. (Berti's first game) Scotland are humiliated in Paris and world-renowned d*ckhead David Trezeguet revels in it, teasing young debutante Gary Caldwell as the goals fly in. http://www.creative-restraint.co.uk/assets/img/trezeguet.jpg October 2006 - Scotland 1-0 France. Revenge for Scotland - and Caldwell - at Hampden. http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2006/10/scotlandR081006_228x320.jpg Quotes from the French after the game include: - "The ball boys slowed the game down and did not retrieve the ball quickly enough." - Raymond Domenech - "If we played Scotland ten times, we would win nine times out of ten. That was the one in ten. See you in Paris." - Thierry Henry - "If Scotland qualify, it's serious because, frankly, they don't resemble a football team." - David Trezeguet. September 2007 - France 0-1 Scotland James McFadden's wonder-goal completes Scotland's double over the World Cup Finalists. http://img25.imagevenue.com/loc1056/th_22504_mcfadden_122_1056lo.jpg And our good friend David Trezeguet cries like a baby and scratches his head AFTER WE SCORE at the Parc des Princes, even though 25 minutes of the game remain. http://img144.imagevenue.com/loc678/th_22154_trezeguetcrying_122_678lo.jpg http://img161.imagevenue.com/loc667/th_22510_trezeguet_122_667lo.jpg Shame. (*) P.S. I should probably note here that I in no way condone Gary Caldwell's inclusion in the Scotland squad - In fact I reckon he's a total nightmare, but that's for another thread on another day. TOP OF THE GROUP!
  5. Well that's.....conclusive. I've been trying not to comment on this until details of the forensic evidence come out, but at the moment it reeks of the police trying to take the focus off their own mishandled, almost farcical "investigation". I may well be proven wrong.
  6. It's about the reworking of the parish boundaries, and the inclusion of teams from Lerwick and Scalloway. He (in my opinion quite rightly) points out that there's not a lot of difference between Scalloway and Brae when it comes to "non-rural" status. Anyway.......... Can I point out that Yell made the final this year without a full squad? In fact, owing to injuries, we haven't been able to put out our full team once this season.
  7. For anybody who hasn't seen it yet - Watch "Knocked Up". To rip off praise from The Times, it's as close to perfect as a comedy can get.
  8. Parish Cup Semi-Final Result: Westside Utd 0-3 Yell Yell in the Parish Cup Final for the second time in three years.
  9. I had the chance to speak to Alex Kapranos at a film festival party the other night and congratulated him on deciding to go to a small venue in Shetland. His justification was that when they're touring "there are so much of these amazing places that we never get to see". I say good for them, it will make for a brilliant gig. He was very positive about Shetland, having been up before as part of The Amphetameanies? I'm not a huge fan of their's to he honest, but they played an excellent acoustic set at the party.
  10. I am sick of hearing this as an "excuse" for the brain-fart that was BayFormers. "Well it was Michael Bay, of course it was going to be brainless, vapid, jarringly edited rubbish.... Why didn't you like it?" Bay shouldn't get his own scale for rating his own films. In the words of Matt Stone and Trey Parker (from Team America: World Police): I may be unable to "disconnect" from my favourite franchise of all time, but I don't agree with movies who feel the need to pander to the lowest possible denominator. A good example from Transformers - The film opens with a caption which reads: QATAR - THE MIDDLE EAST Thanks for clearing that up.
  11. Lots of stuff goes BOOM if that helps..? The robot designs are much too intricate, and that combined with Michael Bay's erratic editing makes it very difficult to make out what's going on a lot of the time. I'm a fan of the material - but I'm not an idiot. I know Transformers is a "kids film", and that's fair enough, but in the 1986 original there was no need for masturbation or "golden shower" "jokes" (I'm not making this up). Also, the racial stereotypes on show are nothing short of jaw-dropping, but that's not surprising given this comes from the director of "Bad Boys". The acting performances (barring Shia LaBeouf) are laughable - not that it will make much difference to a 7-year-old! Your son might enjoy it, but be sure to tell him that although it's a "big robots blow stuff up" film, it's certainly not Transformers. I reckon you should just get him a copy of this: http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3296740/Transformers-The-Movie-Special-Edition/Product.html
  12. Most accurate Transformers review quote I've seen:
  13. Transformers was horrific. I'm a big fan of the source material (note the avatar), and it was a b@stardisation (sorry mods) of what could have been an epic franchise - Not that you can expect any more from Mr Bay. Take away the spectacle and what have you got? Pee, fart and masturbation "jokes", lazy stereotypes bordering on racism, and horrible, erratic editing. To top it all off I expected to be able to say "at least the effects were good", but the robots were - for the most part - indistinguishable grey blobs rolling around (not that the editing helped in that regard). The designs were appalling, and is it too much for a Transformers film to actually be ABOUT Transformers? It's also WAAAYYYYY too long, but my main problem was the film-maker's sheer disdain and disrespect for the franchise and it's fans. It's sole redeeming point was Shia Labeouf's performance. Loved The Simpsons Movie (which features the Greatest "Homer Moment" Of All Time).
  14. I didn't mean they were as good a side as Whalsay and Delting, just that the football they play is as difficult to defend against - they're an incredibly quick attacking team. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I've got to disagree about Whalsay I'm afraid ENZO - When they are full-strength I believe they are a match for Delting.
  15. There's no doubting that when Celtic are at full-strength they are very difficult to play against - I would go so far as to put them in the same bracket as "The Big Two". That said however, Commodore is 100% right. University is, and will continue to be, a big problem - Especially with the season starting in mid-April.
  16. I officially redact this statement - We've just resigned Derek Young.
  17. I have little doubt that Celtic will win everything they want to yet again, but I've got to disagree with Scott MacDonald and Chris Killen making them stronger - I wouldn't want them at Aberdeen! (and we have Lee Miller!) I fear the Dons will be struggling for the Top 6 without The Mighty Russell Anderson, but COME ON YOU REDS - Surely a Cup Final is due.......
  18. Haha, this thread has gone spectacularly off-topic. Might be best to just delete it mods?
  19. The "wooble Up Your Ears" episode tonight was one of the best I've seen, but then I think that about nearly every one. Definately the best title I've seen though! The appearances of Starscream, Man-E-Faces and the Knight Rider scene transition were highlights...
  20. Sorry drewloe, this thread wasn't intended to inspire such debate - See my original post: I was just hoping to gather a few anecdotes of people's experiences of rural policing. I know there are some of the opinion that sometimes newcomers take the job a little too seriously, although NOT - I hasten to add - when it comes to drink driving. Let's keep this light-hearted. Please!
  21. Good stuff... Maybe "amusing police encounters" would be a more appropriate approach to this thread?
  22. I thought about resurrecting the "Have the police lost our respect?" thread from the back end of last year for this, but decided to start anew... For the purposes of something (fictional) I'm writing at the moment, do any anecdotes spring to mind of the Shetland police behaving in a particularly trivial manner? Obviously no names/locations/dates are necessary! Stories can concern anything atall - Vehicle problems, procedures, reactions to drunkeness etc.. I'm not looking to trigger a debate on whether or not these "trivial" instances were in fact good examples of proper policing, rather just to gather some stories really... Anyone?
  23. You're right Boris, that was the reason. I've heard a story from years ago of a certain very successful club beating one of the minnows by 15+ and still trying to rack up more goals purely to boost their own scores in the Fantasy League. You can't have that with teams like Yell, Unst and Burra playing top level this season.
  24. Sounds like you just don't like Shetland much!
  25. I think Wheesht, the answer simply lies in the fact that football is the most popular sport in the isles - You only have to look at the crowd in Gilbertson Park for the final two years ago. I can completely understand the annoyance displayed on these forums by some, although I'm not sure I agree with it. The decision was taken for Shetland's Football squad(s) not to compete in Rhodes on "medical grounds" after getting "advice from the SFA". For that to be the case, then for another Scottish island group to play and finish with a medal, is a little disappointing. I'd be interested to hear about the Western Isles team experiences - Can't you just post them on the boards? No need to quote a source, just keep it anonymous.
