  1. demo here: http://eyeos.org/demo/desktop.php? Hey it looks better than Vista!
  2. ...............The next version of Windows ("Vienna") may well have a completely new GUI, sandboxes for unmanaged code and use the net to deliver your desktop to you wherever you are. All good stuff. It's slated for 2009. Uh-huh Speaking of delivering desktops over the internet in 2009. Its here!!!!!!! Take a look at this: http://eyeos.org/about
  3. Does anyone know if Stanley Jordan is playing any more?
  4. I think the old hjaltland office, on the corner of harbour / market street, was turned into one, I don't know any more about it.
  5. I have the same attitude most of the time, a lot of this stuff is very time consuming. One of the advantages of windows I suppose. Are there any practical usergroups in shetland?
  6. Sweet potato pie, he is good! 8O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baDM3_6w8-E
  7. I don't see an edit button next to the poll?
  8. Sorry BigMick, there are a few I missed out Trout any chance of updating the poll, without starting a new thread? For all my linux friends out there: Which is the most popular: KDE or Gnome? Which do you use? Or are there any other desktop envirnments you use e.g. XFCE? I like KDE and GNOME (bit bloated IMHO), although the best window manager I have used is Fluxbox. Its fantastically quick, sleak, no-nonsense, thats on my gentoo server.
  9. I consider myself a shetlander, born here, never lived anywhere else. My mother is a shetlander through and through (well, back a few generations), my father was originally born in a town just outside Liverpool, he moved here when he was a young teenager, went to the anderson and met my mother, and the rest is history as they say (he still lives here). He considers himself to be a shetlander. Is he a shetlander? also am I? I mean I don't speak like a "shetlander"...
  10. Would you be allowed to peel whilst eating, because you could make a slight cut at one end then bite it gently at that cut, and shove the rest of the banana into your mouth, automatically removing the skin, and you'd be left with the skin in your hand, thus saving time?
  11. JustMe you should have created user accounts from root.
  12. Thankyou I have to say its interesting that no-one here just uses Linux......hhmmmm...probably, as we have discussed because each has its pros and cons. I myself have a mixture.
  13. Trout: Oh sorry: I agree it isn't the be all and end all, but it certainly helps. I realise that you are not high and dry, however I am just pointing out the fact there is a main difference why Linux is built in a way that theoretically is better for security risks than windows.
  14. Indeed Evilinky, your comment in my opinion did not compliment the debate at all, it seemed to be a spurious generalisation that was not in context.
  15. Njugle: I use the phrase "In your Opinion", only in the interests of accentuating my point, that for all of this unnecessary fuss, there cannot be a solution to our predicament, its everyones own opinion that ultimatley decides whether its good or not. Sorry to waste so much of your server space 8O
  16. EvilInky, Notice that question you have quoted me on, was infact directed at PeerieBryan, and, or someone with an answer or suggestion that would be in context to my suggestion, compliment the debate in a way that would continue its development, and in fact did make some sort of sense.
  17. Well what about those who believe that god intelligently designed the big bang, and left the rest up to physics and nature, what is their purpose in science? Right so the creationist/scientist is seeking truth in the rest of the universe appart from the big bang because he thinks or knows that god did that bit. Can he be doing this? No he can't, science rules that you must be seeking truth in everything, even the origins of the universe. Where is his place? By your reasoning PeerieBryan there is no place for this attitude, but clearly there are those who do believe and practice this. So there must be a crossing point somewhere between science and religion.
  18. I agree trout, those are common ways of breaching a system but your example is unrealistic. The fact is that most systems will have security, in the shape of a firewall. etc. Basically nowadays, its a catch 22 situation. Unless the system is not connected to the outside world. Although you have to admit that with hindsight, linux with its modular design is far better suited for defending system critical files etc, compared with window's monolthic design. If someone is determined enough, they could theoretically break any system.
  19. I'm afraid that was a joke, yes be very afraid. What if you never used the super user account whilst online? Only when offline and only when absolutely necessary?
  20. Certainly. And in the interests of this debate I will follow your lead. In your opinion Inyour opinion, I doubt it would have disappeared without a trace, its not that bad. I am not so deluded to think so, I think less of you for suggesting this. I never suggested it did, I simply mentioned that sales could be used as a non bias reference. In your opinion. In your opinion. I'm not. Didnt say you were. Possibly, but i'm sure there are many who do not support my posision, never the less this cannot discount my personal tastes, and literary apptitude. I have not used that statement as an argument, and as for your final comment, I agree. As I have already pointed out: this is a matter of taste. Just because I like the book and as you seem to think the majority of book readers hate it, does not mean I have a lesser litterary aptitude, and I certainly hope your not implying so. I found it an enjoyable read, and a good murder mystery. I think this book was so succesful, because it touched a nerve with the world, a very interesting subject matter.
