  2. well pit it dis way the land rover probably couldnt pull itsself up the beach never mind a "boat" will need to wait and see what his "forvik" numberplates look like
  3. hes going to use it in sandness to pull his "boat" up the beach supposidly
  4. look out if you are going to be on the sandness road because captain calamity is heading to sandness in a clapped oot land rover
  5. iv also heard a story of person who reported finding a mine at the clickamin loch when asked to point out on a map where he found it he said that he had taken it with him and it was outside the door of the police station, the area got cordened off and bomb disposal called turned out that it was live and he was lucky that it didnt explode on him
  6. iv just heard it was supposidly 22 hand grenades
  7. perhaps thay have found an unexploded device and are waiting on the bomb disposal unit
  8. i hope that i am wrong aswell but i fear not hopefully the news will be able to tell us soon enough
  9. well if thats the case they will be waiting for the crash investigastors from inverness which means that it is a potentially fatal accident, shetland news doesnt have anything yet
  10. car crash perhaps must be pretty bad if the road is closed lets hope its nothing serious
  11. they possibly do but the automatic switching of gears will be no where near as smothe as the manual shift down the gears and if the gears are suddenly dropped with a jerk that can induce the wheels to lock up and cause a skid, same thing would happen if you dropped your car from fourth to second withut rev matching, the problem with driving on snow/ice is that as soon as you are sliding there is literally nothing you can do apart from lift off all the pedals and steer and inevatiably the roads arent big enough for the bus to slide forever and the ditch is the only thing to stop it
  12. i think the biggest problem with the current busses is the fact that they are automatic ie if you have to slowdown instead of using the gears as you would in a manual car/bus you have to use the brakes which is the absolute last thing you want to be doing on snow/ice coupled with the fact they are made from plastic and weigh nothing you have a very unstable bus in wind/snow/ice/(bouts of sneezing )
  13. iv just been informed that there is about six cars off the road between tingwall and bixter
  14. Ah... the benefits of being a student! well i work full time but go to college two nights a week and have a student card so i suppose i am technically a student
  15. just to add to this last friday night i went down on the boat as a foot passenger and came back up on saturday night as a foot passenger with a car and the whole trip only cost me £70.30 that was with islander discount and student discount, much cheaper then the £166 i was quoted for a northlink employee to drive it on in aberdeen and off again in lerwick
  16. ^ In saying that even if you did have the number plate the person can just deny it to the police, your word against the drivers. AFIK if three different people (not all in the same car) report the same car on the same stretch of road on the same night at around about the same time the driver can be charged (*** Mod - dequotified ***)
  17. I'd suspect he doesn't actually forecast the weather...just read out whatever he gets from a news agency or possibly a weather forecasting agency. Having said that I've noticed that his 'forecasts' are actually reports of what the weather has been...or have I been hearing it incorrectly? yeh he tells you what the weather was last night and what the weather in bergan was like aswell
  18. would need to be a heavy duty steel frame to be able to tie it done propperly to tie it down you should use a lot of rope and secure them at 45 degree angles to a solid anchor in the ground
