  1. So, no collection this week. No black bags, no tins and bottles and no paper.(I know it was just meant to be cardboard and paper this last week!.) However it looks like there has been a failure in our part the countryside. Even the paper bins not emptied. The local council estate had an open day for the scories with black bags blowing about. Rumours of lack of resources to cope with the network of roads and tracks, possibly requiring more manpower and more vehicles?
  2. At the end of the day governments don’t really affect things as much as they think. Whatever happens it will be up to the businesses and the working man (probably rules some of you out) who will pick up the pieces and make thing work. As GR says, they will always find away to supply the market. In the short term we may find things a little more expensive. We already pay more in taxes than rUK so what’s new. We could even grow some food ourselves, the same food that kept us going in the past is still there. We don’t have to buy the nutrionless tasteless crap from the supermarkets, a lot of us don’t.
  3. I phoned and they (sic) more or less admitted that the new communal bins in our area were not well situated and they would have to be looked at in the next few weeks. Tbh I have to drive to get to the nearest pick up point anyway and would have been happier if the gas a collection point for the village I a central point , instead of having these ugly tin boxes dotted around our beautiful rural settings
  4. I didn’t think uswitch could cope with people wh had a 2 meter system. Could you try it please, since it’s so simple.
  5. What an eyesore, looks just like some English housing estate
  6. No explanation, but looks like it is communal bins, for 7 houses within a half mile radius. On private land with no where to fix them . So it looks like a public responsibility, so you are welcome come with your cement mixer and get to work.
  7. Looks lik wir no gyaan ta gyit wir ain bins. Dir twa muckle brutes near da end o wir rod. I doot dey’ll be fleein about dis winter. Hit cleaned up a concrere waa twa winters fae syne. No wha wid be da “responsible person” if dey tak aff an hit a car or da porch o a hoose?
  8. If I remember correctly your car in Yell doesn’t required an mot so it can be cheaper to own one.
  9. While there has always been friendly rivalry in sport amongst the home countries of the UK, it used to be that each nation supported the other against the rest of the world Nowadays the nasty nationalist elements have ramped up this anti English thing to the point of supporting anyone else. Unfortunately this brings out the worst in nationalism. I have considered voting for independence, but this kind of behaviour puts me off.
  10. Just wondered, as you don’t pay for water if you have your own supply, or sewage if you have your own septic tank. But of course we pay for things we don’t get like street lighting or street cleaning so I suppose that’s not fair either.
  11. I wonder if you arrange to dispose of your own rubbish in a green and legal manner you would get a discount on council tax.
  12. Or bitter and twisted. I believe the council policy already covers this. Wonder how much these additional random tests will cost us.
  13. mod edit - this thread is in response to - http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/16541-random-tests-could-send-strong-message-on-drugs-says-councillor I think it’s a good idea to test for drugs/alcohol. After all these people are representing us, at various levels and as such they should be setting a good example on all occasions. A councillor is never off duty.
  14. How do they deliver these bins? I live at the end of a long private dirt track. it will be interesting.
  15. I wonder how many car parking spaces are available at Scatsta.
  16. Exactly George, treat people as you wish to be treated yourself. You’ll find people have more respect for you.
  17. Personally I would be quite happy to carry a gun, but I wouldn’t want any of you to carry one.
  18. If Scots Law and Scottish police are not yours what is?
  19. We’re lucky to live in a country where the police are generally friendly and helpful, unless you are breaking the law. Pay them respect you get respect back. Push your luck in any other country and you’ll soon know about it.
  20. One the the problems, or delights, of this golden age of information technology, is you can always find someone or something that supports and ratifies your beliefs.
  21. This discussion is exactly about Tommy Robinson. It looks like he is using this court case to raise publicity for his own cause, not for the good of the victims.
  22. It’s a difficult situation. You think you’re the defender of free speech , yet your then in danger of supporting the nazis. In this case I am happy leave it to the courts.
  23. I got an email from my new phoneline supplier, saying, "sorry to hear you're leaving us". I called them and they said BT is taking over my line in 10 days. Luckily i wasn't away and managed to cancel this. this happened to my neighbour and they were without phone and broadband for a fortnight! I called BT to complain, and they weren't interested. Anyone else experienced this?
  24. You take your life in your hands, when cars come along Commercial Street. Its not really wide enough for modern cars and must be particularly difficult for infirm people trying to avoid them. Its ironic that most of the culprits are themselves blue badge holders.
