Anyone help with identifying the gentleman on the left of these 2 pics -- the one on the right looks as if he is foreign? It may be anytime between 1910-1930 -- I really don't know. It is at a fish sale on the Esplanade, Lerwick

Is that the old esplanade toilets (about to be replaced with the new toilets in Harbour House yard) in the back of the top photo? Don't think i've ever seen a photo of them before. Thats Victoria Buildings and Harbour House in the lower photo at a different angle, so it could be.

Cheers again, Oddrun

If you want to. It was some of the old postcards and photos that my Father collected years ago. But even after scanning them in I could not see who had taking the photos. There is one of Scalloway from the 1800s and a photo of a painting from about the same time as well

Para Handy,

The Scord Quarry was started in the early 1930s. I think I've heard September 1932, but I believe that may have just been the date that the permission was given, or the land was acquired..

The house, top right, is pretty distinctive and does not look like Lerwick to me.

No.2

There is a sign on the building behind the group which might give a clue as to the location if it could be scanned at a high enough resolution to be legible. The location might help to identify the people.

Thanks Auld Rasmie that is about the time scale that someone else said and I quote " Just before WWII" And all who could have said are now all but gone
