I completely agree with you on the point that we're all, in some way, complicit in the economic and social exploitation of "developing" nations, but I don't accept that that makes us responsible for individual examples of mass murder. The point I'm trying to make is that there are easily identifiable culprits, and that, instead of continually beating ourselves up about collective responsibilty, we should be doing something practical to hold these people to account. There are plenty of guns in Iraq, and killing people's relatives and neighbours tends to make them angry. An insurgent by definition is a foreign national, with no prior connection to the nation in question, who enters said nation with the express intention of causing death, destruction and general unrest. According to www.dictionary.com, an insurgent is"a person who rises in forcible opposition to lawful authority, esp. a person who engages in armed resistance to a government or to the execution of its laws; rebel." ( See http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/insurgent ) An insurgent does not need to be a foreign national. Very well, you understand it to mean one thing, I understand it to mean something slighty different, we know where we stand. If you only consider insurgents to be foreign fighters, I'm interested to know what term you would use to describe an Iraqi fighter taking part in the insurgency? Old Universatiy friends is an Iraqi National.. lives and works in Glasgow now, but still his parents and family still live in Basara. As far has this persons family is concerned, things have improved for them as thay are free to trade like they used to before Sudams reign.Before Sudam they were very well to do people able to support themselfsDuring Saddam reign their son would have to send them Finacial aid to help them survive. and now Sudam has gone they are able to support themselfs again. As with everything on the news they report the worst that is happening as due to our sick culture people find that more interesting than hearing good news. I am not in anyway saying that life is rosie.. but there does appear to be some good coming out of the war. What annoys me is all the people that expect a quick resolution to this affair... as soon as we invaded Iraq there wasnt a chance in hell of it being quick.. and I cant honestly believe that Bush or Blair ever thought that. Not quite a comparable comparision.. but look at Northern ireland.. that took 30 years to come to soem sort of peace agreement. ( even that is still very fagile ).. so how people can honestly feel that any thing can be done in a few months or years in Iraq is beyond me. America and Britain will have some form of presence in Iraq for decades to come in my opinion.. slowly scaleing down over the years.. Even Shetland has had a presence of army for over 60 years.. and only just lost it's last army base this year.. If anyone was in doubt that the Iraq war is a massive money spinner for the likes of Kellog, Brown and Root (Halliburton, owned and run by Washington), this documentary fairly puts paid to that misconception.
