JustMe
The Shetland Times wroteTalks on the future of SIC assistant chief executive Willie Shannon have broken down after council chief executive David Clark refused to accept the decision of councillors to consult further on plans to restructure his executive team. Now if this is true then I think David Clark should be suspended with immediate effect and sacked once the paperwork can be sorted out. The elected councillors make decisions and it is most certainly not within the Chief Executive's remit to refuse to accept any lawful decision made by those councillors. paulb
totally agree. how dare he refuse the instruction of the council. he clearly has not learnt anything. his bosses have directed him to do something he refuses thats enough for him to go. no more garden leave. his sacking of mr shannon was not done correctly so he sulks about not getting his way. this really can not go on. Acillat
He surely must/must be made to go now.
icepick239
A member of the Walls show committee dropped of a bottle of malt whisky at the town hall for Mr Clark as a thank you for him presenting the tropheys at the show. Next they hear he has been caught drinking in his office. Whoops! It must have been like 'The Last Chance Saloon' in there.Wasn't it reported that Clark and Laidler were drinking CHAMPAGNE?What happened to the Malt? Ach, he's just a 'legend in his own mind'.With the latest news, surely it is time for him to go FORTHWITH. He has trashed his own reputation (such as that might have been) and indirectly damaged his fathers also. What must he think?
icepick239
Every time I read this thread I am amazed there are still people trying to defend him ie. mainlander, spinner. The damage that has been done is surely beyond repair now and he must go to save any respect for the councilAfter today's news, what have you two got to say in his defence now? markj
Is Mr Clark away with the fairies? I read in the Shetland News article that “Willie has always been off by his own choice. He was never asked to go off. The council’s wish was that Willie come back and then we could look at restructuring the council,†he said." Did he not come back from holiday to find agent clark had deleted his post? How can such a small place be so badly managed?, maybe its all a sub-plot for a good bill head. mojo
So having reached an impasse in the "Shannongate" farce, what happens now and how much is it going to cost? I sincerely hope the person at the root of this shambles is held to account. Hands up Mr Clark
Guest Anonymous
If Clark gets his way this time, against a democratic decision of the council, then Shetland will have become a dictatorship. Surely he must be sacked now. If the council have the backbone to stand up to him.
Styles
Do we need a council assistant chief executive on £65K?We did not need one before and no one seems to be able to stay what the person in the position actually does. Plus how many other were able to apply for the job in the first place? I would rather have the money saved, especially as it seems to be being paid at the moment for a person not at their desk for 3 months and it does not seem to be a loss to the Council. cosmos
The longer this MESS drags the more i suggest that BIG money is being sought !! Compensation for broken contracts spring to mind and who pays ? the local tax payer ss per norm------money is the root of all evil.
steno
As this pathetic, increasingly pointless council, continue their mud-slinging; may I ask one wee point? 22 councillors during financial year 08/09 cost us a combined total in their salaries and 'expenses' a whopping £476,151.78 Maybe they should weigh up this horrendous figure, with their farcical behaviour; and all do the honourable thing. Not only stand down, but bar themselves from standing for office again.
Jumbo
"Mr Clark said he had been asked to give a commitment to Mr Shannon returning “in the long term†as assistant chief executive and for a “grading review to achieve a higher salaryâ€, without which negotiations could not continue." So Willie not only wants to keep his non existent job but he wants a pay rise! What an absolute joke!
