Fifi
People keep ringing me up. The post office keeps dropping junk mail through my door. They are all trying to sell me stuff. Stuff that I am not interested in, stuff that I haven't requested. If they include a pre-paid envelope I like to send it back to them with a telephone directory attached (for the weight). I add a note to say, thank you for your rubbish, please have some of mine. I never buy from these companies. I am quite capable of deciding what i want to buy and from whom without the "help" of all of these companies and their "clever" marketing people. There's no need to receive junk mail through your door, junk phone calls on your landline or mobile, nor junk faxes. http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/http://www.fpsonline.org.uk/fps/
Muppet
Good links Fifi, but I have to say BigMouth's idea of returning a phone book appeals more to me

It still comes. Either I have previously dealt with the companies in the past or they just ignore the rules. Not much you can do about the Post Office, other then posting it back to them I suppose! I believe that putting rubbish in a post box is illegal though.
peeriebryan
That'll be the Birmingham journalist in Shetland then Here to see Shetland's bright side With all the hoo-haa about it, you'd think it was the queen, or Jade Goody, who had arrived. He's a journalist on a freebee publicity mission I hope the weather stays fine fur him
Atomic
Back on this topic of Shetland's image "overseas" - whit think you aa o this weeks Shetland Times report on the new Rough Guide to Scotland placing Shetland tourist attractions as 3 of the top 8 Visitor Attractions in Scotland? Amazing results for Shetland! 1st Placed Tourist Attraction in Scotland = Mousa Broch3rd Placed = Jarlshof8th Placed = Shetland Folk Festival These all ahead of other National Attractions such as: the Edinburgh Festival - "the world's biggest festival of theatre and the arts" (30th),Stirling Castle (14th),the Cairngorm Mountains (26th), Hogmanay (32nd) and Scottish Pubs (19th)! The really cool thing about this is that the Rough Guide series is an internationally respected reference point, producing Travel Guides for most Countries and large Cities of the world. These books are actively sought out by travellers and tourists planning their journeys and activities as they are known to be extensively researched and informative. Surely that's an official recognition of the quality of Shetland as a destination, reflecting our unique and attractive history, culture, music, and ability to have a right good time! peeriebryan
Back on this topic of Shetland's image "overseas"....(**moderator edit - with all due respect atomic, I took the liberty of posting the above message in the Holiday reviews of Shetland thread where many of these topics are already being discussed**)
Atomic
No problem. Raised the point in this thread because of the Shetland Times connection reporting stories of two Publications South printing diametrically opposite views of the isles in the same month. Saw the contrast and wanted to redress the balance of the Brummy Birse!
peeriebryan
The Birmingham journalist was interviewed on Radio Shetland last night (click on the 'Radio Shetland Online' link in the 'shetland quick links' section on the left). He was expecting to get eggs thrown at him on arrival. An oppertunity missed?

peeriebryan
The cynic in me might think this was all planned. I wonder when The Shetland Times or Birmingham Post got so much national exposure.....
