Njugle
present incumbent of No 10 and his bullet heided jock lickspittle. You are indeed "a card" NewMagnie , what a superb turn of phrase! Anyway, progressing the same point, our current government bolstered their rise to power playing a "devolution" card in the pre-election gaseous emissions. What better display of devolved democratic process could there be than the politically-based case-review question arising, "Shall we deport this individual?" and 7000 voices in the relevant community actively suggesting "No."
JustMe
NewMagnie wrote Now, bearing this in mind, the issue of whether young Sakchai is supported by 1/3 or slightly more than half of the population is something of a moot point - we don't get a vote. We do get a vote.......but with the lib dem stronghold in Shetland it is not likely to change the next government. BUT......people in Scotland and the rest of the UK do get a chance to change the government at the next election and perhaps one of the main parties might have a sensible justice policy by then. NewMagnie
Your faith in the democratic process, such as it is, is nothing short of charming. Lets for a moment, consider the 'main parties' Labour, Record in Government speaks for itself, Belmarsh, dawn raids, failure to condemn guantanamo, etc, etc, Conservative - inventors of 'Internment' in Ulster, utterly complicit in current government's agenda of continued erosion of human rights. Lib Dems - in spite of your obvious, and not entirely incomprehensible distate for young Tavish' crew, they do at least make the right noises. Whether that would bear up in government is, unlikely to be tested at a national level. (I refer here to the real government in westminster, you understand, not the superannuated parish council in Edinburgh) As for Greens, Socialists or the various clutches of weekend fascists littering the fringes of British Politics..... well, lets just not bother. Neither of the big two are going to change their stance, certainly not at the behest of a few petitions or negative headlines. Its also worth pointing out that Shetland's support for Sakchai is unusual. Dawn raids, internments and deportations occur every day across the UK without comment. I wouldn't be surprised if the current campaign is succesful, in terms of this particular lad's case, but its only a matter of time before it happens again. Next time letters and petitions won't cut it. Serious civil disobedience is the only logical next step. Njugle: You are too kind, and indeed entirely correct in suggesting that this would be a test for devolved democracy. I suspect we both know how the current democratic model will meet this test. He wis a greety wank anywye! im lost! whats going on here has someone been band? as far as i can work out someone has used 2 names? have you considered that the same computer has been used by 2 people? at my work 3 people use the same pc - hotdesking is bug with us! so perhaps the same log number will come out. then if i wanted i could have a difrent name at home. thats the thing about this kind of fourm. you never realy know who is gen or not. god davie had 2 names 1 at work and 1 at home untill he worked it out and now uses one name. as long at no one causes great harm its a forum to discuss and respect what people say regardless of the users name.
