shetlandpeat
Unless you do not have ears or a nose and are having medical issues with contacts, then it is about vanity. The correction does not last/ Anyhow, I point folk HERE My stepdad-in-law went blind after correction surgery with lasers
Para Handy
You may just be unlucky As with all types of operation, sometimes things go wrong. During the operation the laser may malfunction, the microkeratome may break along with many other things. The occurrences of these types of mechanical error are extremely rare thanks to very stringent safety checks prior to surgery. Even though these risks seem serious, in the hands of an experienced and competent surgeon it is likely that you will experience brilliant results following your laser eye surgery. Please however bear in mind that things can go wrong. It is important that you understand the risks involved and you alone, not anyone else make the choice to have the surgery as at the end of the day it is your eye being operated on. Severe complications in laser eye surgery are thankfully very rare, however they do still occur. Some of these problems can be treated to allow your vision to return to normal, sadly however, some may not. It is important that you understand what the surgery and recovery period entails, along with any possible side effects and complications before you agree to have the surgery. Any questions or worries you may have will be addressed by your ophthalmologist. Even though the risks to your eyesight are very rare when having laser eye surgery, it is still important that you are prepared should they happen to you. Even if you don’t experience any of the more serious problems, it is likely that you may develop some side effects from the surgery itself. The side effects that can occur including when they may start and what can be done to treat them is detailed in the next few sections. Guest posiedon
When I made inquiries (quite a few years ago) they wouldn't consider me because I'm blind in one eye and they weren't prepared to take the risk. I don't know about now but at that time they would only treat one eye at a time, just in case?
Blondie
From the point of view of someone who has actually had laser eye treatment, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. As with any type of surgery, there are risks but as long as you understand what they are, you can make an informed choice. I underwent treatment at Optimax in Glasgow six years ago for severe short sightedness. I went from not being able to see the first letter on the opticians board, to being able to read the bottom line with ease - and I still can. To not have to reach for glasses first thing every morning, or have the inconvenience of contact lenses is, for me, nothing short of miraculous. I still marvel at being able to see the flag mast on top of the Town Hall from my house, nearly 2 miles away! Good luck with whatever you decide. Hendo87
I got mine done Over a year ago now in Aberdeen at Optical Express. I would 100% Recommend the surgery to anyone. I wore contact lenses for 8 year. I just got fed up with them and decided to go for it.The surgery is pain free, all you feel is when the suction cup is applied to your eye. Yes the smell is bad but you don’t have to smell it. After the surgery the pain is more irritating than sore and your eyes will water a lot. In a day or 2 they soon start to get back to normal and within 2 weeks you will be able to go about as normal. For me the Feeling when I walked out the Eye op Clinic on Union Street and had a look about was unreal. Being able to see without having lenses in or glasses on again was very good! Haha There is a lot to worry about, but my advice to you would be to go get the consultation as its free then take the advice from the specialists and make your own mind up on that.Good luck with it
lilackirsty
Thanks im having second thoughts about it now lol im deffo not being vain, i have had a weak left eye all my life and thought it might help. cheers for the advice I looked into it a while ago for the same reason, but was told that it wouldn't improve the vision a great deal as the eye would always be dominated by the good one. I would do some research and imo have a consultation to discuss if it's likely to work.
daveh
When I had my eyes done, some 22 years ago, laser surgery was just coming in and wasn't really proven in the UK. I had a microsurgery operation done called radial keratotomy which was a complete success in my case. You can read about it here:http://www.lasersite.com/rk/index.htm
Lojack
I had mine done down London way about 5/6 years ago, went from -4.5 to better than 20/20 and still have perfect sight now. I'd say go for it but pay the extra pennies to have the laser cut option not the manual. And take someone with you, seriously very important!! You'll need to be guided about for at least a couple of hours. But yes go for it
engineer21
Got mine done at optical express, wouldnt aggree with some of the posts here theres lots of scare mongering thats going on, i was worried yes but was also well read about it and understood you are far more likly to have issues with your sight after surgery, i.e infection etc. i however did not and iam 100% happy and will reccomend as far as my own experience (not my brothers or friends dad etc etc) it was worth it, not painful just uncomfortable and i regained sight instantly just a bit cloudy for a few hours a good sleep and woke up good. now have better than 20-20 vision wouldnt say it was vanity as practial reasons industry i work in need to wear safety glasses, in rain, hot and cold temps, very sunny places, far nicer to just put on safety glasses clear or tinted than struggling with presprection ones. i had mine done at Optical Express in aberdeen as i was living down there great service cost £3300 (cost depends on eyesight) go for a free consultation youve nothing to loose!! if anyone decides to go for consulatuion and would like vouchers pm me as they keep sending me them you would get £150 off
