Hamiltonian
Just how do you get pictures of a plane that's doing 500 miles per hour? My son is mad about planes and I'd love to find out how to get a closer look for him. My dad says you can't track them with normal binoculars. Is that true? MuckleJoannie
I've been able to track high flying jets with binoculars.
trooter
As they fly at approx 36000ft it is easy to track them by eye binoculars or camera with a big lens. And if you look at http://www.flightradar24.com/ you can find out what plane it is, where it is going and at what speed.
stilldellin
^ Any slr camera with a good zoom would do. Settings for the above was 1/400 sec at f7.1 using a 400mm lens.

unlinkedstudent
@ Ghostie - Have you not heard? Stilldelin requested they circled as apparently he hasn't got an up-to-date photograph of it and they duly met his request.
Ghostrider
^ I wish he'd hurried it up - and requested that the chopper did their practice flights some other day, four odd hours and counting of constant aero engines is getting a tad wearing. This is sleepy Sumburgh, not bloody Heathrow!
