  1. the 64 bit is made for overclockers, gaming enthusiasts, system builders and the like not your day to day average public figure Slight generalisation...? 64bit is the way of the future, simple as. It will kill off 32bit when Windows 8 rolls around in a couple of years. You may as well use 64bit now then have to format when W8 comes around. Not only that, but 64bit drivers are far more prevalent than they've ever been. And to be honest, being limited to 3.5GB of RAM is pretty annoying. From what I understand this is entire system RAM, so that'll include your graphics memory too.
  2. ^^ Native multi touch yes, but there are very few inbuilt apps that actually support it. There's a good few PC's that have crapware on that support such devils work though My laptop has given up the crappers (the GPU is busted and it displays everything polarised!) and I'm seriously considering just picking up an Eee Pad Transformer.
  3. ^ Probably because FM radio is on a frequency many other companies want to use for things other than radio and because Digital Radio (from what I understand) supports more than just stereo sound, correct? Eventually analogue broadcasts will cease to exist. It'll be a weird world when we can have 4G LTE data connections on our phones and FM Radio is still hanging around.
  4. ^ When it comes to online console gaming they don't show ping timings and instead the bars (which the amount obviously changes per game) is latency. The more the better. Kinda like mobile phones.
  5. So that 'bar' is the ping time between you and the host. Ping is the time it takes for 1 packet of data to go from your connection to the host connection and back. So basically, if your ping is high (usually above 160ms on console games) it'll be fairly unplayable at most times. The host in this case, will be the player who created the game or the player with the best connection in the room. And quite frankly, they'll be nothing you can do about it. At peak times (6pm - 11pm), the ping in Shetland can be very high and it'll be down to your internet connection and nothing else. Not much I can suggest apart from not playing at peak times. Oh and make sure you're NAT isn't 'strict' this will reduce the amount of players you can play with. It should say on the online menu's what your NAT is, if it's strict, look up your router/ADSL modem and the term 'port forwarding'. You'll need to make sure that the ports either the PS3 or 360 use aren't being blocked. Another suggestion: get a decent internet service provider. BT are known for throttling ping timings.
  6. Someone fancy clearing something up for me? I've often heard people say you can get 3G in Lerwick on vodafone, but I've setup my mates Android phone over the weekend with seemly correct APN settings and it's still only accessing GPRS. I know we get HSPDA(+?) in Lerwick on o2, just wondering if anyone on vodafone could clue me in! Would also be useful for me as I'm thinking of moving over to vodafone once my o2 contract expires.
  7. Yesterday: Constant annoyances continue
  8. It's Mumford and Sons... Mumford and sons! They're not worth sitting out in the middle of a winter night for. Jeez...
  9. BT Vision can be incredibly flaky. The fact is, if your connection can't keep a steady 3-4mbit you'll have some real problems streaming.
  10. Yes, the CD and DVD prices aren't too bad at Clives. But their video game prices are insane. Why buy something for up to £15 more than online? Worst is that they never drop their prices. Video games depreciate very quickly in value and yet they'll keep charging up to £30 for something you can get online for £15 or less.
  11. I called o2 last night complaining, they said that I'm only the 5th person to call about it... I told them what phone and I had and the operator said he'd never heard of it. My poor N1 was hurt :C Buh yeah, at least that's 5 of us with the problem.
  12. Wow. Loving the Google maps use. Should be even better once Google Maps 5 hits the website (faster loading, smoother scrolling and generally far more pleasant to use...)
  13. To be fair, it probably wasn't the womans fault. It was down to the cleaners. If anything, this is more due to the people who use it. It genuinely annoys me that some grown adults can't use toilets correctly... It's part of the reason why I tend never to use public ones unless I really need to.
  14. I've been using Dropbox for a couple of months. It means I can keep all my important files with me wherever I go, on any PC. It's crazy helpful.
  15. Last thing I heard, flashing red light means a broken hard disk. Same thing happened to my PS3 if I remember rightly. Seeing as you can so easily remove PS3 HDD's and replace them with bigger ones, you may as well. Just make sure you get a 2.5" Laptop SATA 5400rpm drive, anything faster and the bay gets very, very hot.
  16. Any update on this, did BT get the problem in Lerwick sorted ? It seemed to be a little faster last night, I could stream things on iPlayer without a problem. Will run a speed test later tonight, just to be sure though.

    Streamline

Last time I called Streamline to see if they had a package of mine, they had no idea... It eventually turned up 5 days later and it had been sat in a container 100M from where it was supposed to be delivered to the entire time.
  18. ^ Seems like a DNS issue. Probably best to try reset your router and if that doesn't help, just wait it out until the problem is sorted. I had a steady 1400ms ping last night, which made web browsing quite difficult.
  19. http://www.pcworld.com/article/121777-2/the_cable_game.html The article is as old as the hills in terms of technology but I've always stuck by this. You're more likely to get radio leak/interference from home plugs than HDMI cable using less than a volt of electricity. Anyway, we're really going off topic here. *attempts to steer things back on course*
  20. No offence at all, but are you mental? An HDMI cable throws a digital signal down a line of a 1 or a 0. It either gets there or it doesn't and there isn't a chance of any image noise regardless of whatever gold or silver you throw inside it. I'd love to see proof of a 50p cable from Amazon not doing exactly the same job as a £300 Monster one. SCART and aerial cables would of course be effected as they're analogue, but it's not like many people are buying new cables of those sorts these days. Or at least I hope they're not.
  21. The one thing I've found Tesco to be significantly cheaper for is electricals. Sure, you don't get the branded stuff, but when it comes to buying an HDMI cable I think I'd rather £2 at Tesco than £15 from Bolts Electrical considering you're buying exactly the same thing.
  22. Still slow as all hell here. .04kbps on the last speedtest I ran. Fixed eh?
  23. Getting worse here. Did another speed test when I got home from work. It's now sat at 0.05mpbs. Hi dial up!
  24. Hm... I actually doubt this speed is right considering the last 1/4 of the download test took 4 minutes. For example, it took me 2 minutes just to open my Gmail inbox, something that takes literally seconds normally. This is an utter joke :-/ http://www.speedtest.net/result/1024379380.png
