Believe me, the transport is the easy bit! Casting is not as simple as it sounds. You need to flaa the bank, use a tushkar to cast, make a guid daek, raise them, turn them, bag them and then hire somebody to cart them home. My granny always said all the heat was in the making of them!!

I only mentioned the one instance as an example. There were many occasions when we lay off in sight of Aberdeen and couldn't get in until midday/2pm. That's just winter weather for you and no point in moaning!

Why don't people understand about the weather and tides in Aberdeen? It has been happening long before Northlink took over the run. I remember being stuck outside the harbour at Aberdeen, missing all connections and having to ring round to make other arrangements while a large tree trunk was stuck in the harbour mouth brought down by severe flooding and storms. We were given free breakfasts and lunches while we lay offshore and it all added to the childrens enjoyment of their holiday! It's just life. You pays your money and you takes your chance!

Have used both WHD and SIC. Both are excellent. One is cheaper than the other but they employed different methods which accounts for it.

Yes, there are a few lochs in the North Mainland which have them and we have large red damselflies on both our ponds. I'd like to have the blue ones too though....

Crofting is an expensive hobby but it can be very rewarding as well and you can eat fresh produce which is a real bonus.

Hay making is a pleasure and we have always got it in and dry in 23 years of making hay here in the islands. Our silage is the best for years.
