  1. I think the Council should request a feasibility study and then a Customer Focus Department to deal with this. Flybe have a Customer Focus Department who are busy focussing on the complete lack of wheelchair appearances despite requests using their Special Assistance Request Department. Or there is the old fall-back position, the Focus Feedback Forum......
  2. The best crispy chicken wontons can be found at the Red Dragon takeaway, Lerwick. Truly divine and a real treat at lunchtime!
  3. Anyone know where they are this weekend? I fancy a Chinese takeaway if they are on the wastside. Cheers Frances
  4. M&S if you spend more than £30 do not charge postage to UK (and that includes Shetland!)
  5. The existing bogs are, I think, by the New Pier which is not very near to anything. Abit like the ones at Sandness which are in Melby (and that is quite a trek to spend a penny!).
  6. Sorry Happy Haddock, but twice in the space of two weeks our chips at lunchtime have been vile, old and chewy. Today's offerings were scraps of tattie not even the full chip. You have lost our business. No more second chances.
  7. Nicolsons Garage have a flat bed with a winch on the front - 01595 810303 (I think). Very useful thing, a winch!
  8. I always do that too, BigMouth. Give 'em £1 and tell them to have the time off on me! I just want to pack my own bags, that's all coz I have a long and arduous windy journey home and sometimes "contents may settle in transit".
  9. I loathe bag packers. They have no idea how to actually pack - eggs at the bottom, then grapes, then tins....... Milk upside down, then bread, then tatties....... Firelighters, then fish, then cake....... No, no, no - leave me alone. I don't want to finance you at all. I will actually pay you to go away and chew gum somewhere else. Fx
  10. You can give a place another chance and then write a review. My partner is not a fan of The Raba. He says everytime he eats there, he spends the night on the loo. This is his review from 2 years ago. I don't but do usually end up drinking alot of water. Haven't been for a year or so, so we decided to give it another chance (basically everywhere else was booked up and we were being taken out for a curry) and aren't we glad we did! The food was great, the service wasn't bad, and we left very happy bunnies having had a delicious meal, totally changing our opinion. Yes, we will go back. Yes, things have changed since the last couple of years and yes, my OH enjoyed himself and is more than happy to return.
  11. I knew I needed a wheelchair to meet me at Edinburgh airport so I emailed their special assistance email address requesting that one met me at the plane from Sumburgh and there was one available for my return trip (same day). I was assured by email that this would be available and a wheelchair was duly waiting for me at the bottom of the steps of the plane from Sumburgh. Upon my return to Edinburgh airport, there was no wheelchair. I managed to get to the DIY check-in section where a Flybe rep/assistant/helper was showing folk how to work the computer. When I asked her if she could find me my wheelchair, she pointed and said "go over there (pointing miles away into the distance) and find one for myself" or to request for one when I checked in. I told her that standing in a queue let alone walking was a virtual impossibility and that a wheelchair had been pre-arranged for me to meet me upon my arrival at the airport. This Flybe rep then appeared annoyed that I had bothered her, flounced off in her clacky high heels to the Flybe info desk to arrange a wheelchair for me by telephone. This appeared to inconvenience her day greatly and made me feel that I had solely contributed to this. So be warned, if you want a wheelchair and have alreayd made arrangements at Edinburgh airport, Flybe will treat you like an inconvenient piece of dirt. It made a bad, stressful day 100% worse. Thanks FLybe.
  12. I think I would prefer the human element and hopefully I have found someone's au pair who has been volunteered! Thanks Fx
  13. Chicken in White Sauce Voe pie. Perfection! Hmmmm.
  14. I need to put an advert in The Danish Shetland Pony Stud-Book. I think it might be best in Danish. Can anyone on here translate my advert into Danish for me? Please pm me if you can. Thanks Frances x
  15. Are you building a telly tubby house? If so, can I have rabbits?
  16. Are they usually fairly accurate? The only reason I ask this is because I am not sure if the BBC actually know where Shetland is? I am rather hoping this website don't either coz it looks like we are in for some fairly feisty stuff!
  17. Oh the poor loves! That is deprivation by any other name.
  18. Well, I have to disagree. I was in GBH A&E t'other day. Doc made me Nil By Mouth for 4 hours while they pondered. Then decided I could go home, and nurses kindly offered me some grub. They came back with a decent egg mayo on granary roll, lovely yoghurty/jammy/muesli thing with no sugar and I thought it was very edible. Compared with the garbage I have eaten in London hospitals over the years, that is not bad. At KCH in South London I pretended to be Muslim so I could at least have a decent curry! The Jewish food at the Middlesex was great too!
  19. Answer £32 per child per trip.
  20. Flybe's website is rubbish. If you phone them up it costs £1/minute. I need to know how much they charge to accompany an unaccompanied minor, or at least to put her on the right plane at Edinburgh and to meet her on the return journey to hand her over to the right person. Anyone know. I asked via their email system but it said it would take 28 days to get back to me!!!! FFS. Thanks Frances
  21. That is so depressing! Why is Tavish not jumping and screaming from the highest rooftops on our behalf? Why is this being allowed to happen to us? We can't exactly go and get ourselves a tanker (just popping out for a while, dear!) and so our hands are securely tied behind our backs. Surely this is what some organisation is set up to deal with (not sure who?)? We have no choice so they are shafting us.
  22. I suppose, because Co-Op have now lost their storage space to the new shopping experience, all stock to go on the shelves will literally come out "of the back of a lorry" or container waiting around the back! In fact I like the new look. Perhaps the staff could smile now!
  23. Mine came from a petting zoo in Inverness. They have the run of 50 acres of enclosed pasture (hill apportionment and grass). They also have a lovely brand new shed that they can come and go into with rubber matting and paper shredded bedding. In the winter, I shut them in, but mostly they can make their own choices. They can also get into the open hill if they feel the need to mix with (ugh!) sheep! Actually, as they can jump any fence, I can't contain them and don't bother tethering as they just hang around the property either eating or cudding. In winter I feed them hard feed (not much) with mostly chaff and a slice of hay as they are very very prone to laminitis in the spring. In the spring, I cut back gradually and they just do their own thing for the rest of the year. This week I have just started to give them a bit of hay which they tend to ignore! It takes rain to get them into their shed. Wind doesn't bother them much, as there is always a wall to shelter behind with grass or somewhere to sit. The old Toggenburg prefers to be outside as much as possible. She is rarely in and complains bitterly when I lock them in during a storm. Once laminitis gets them, it does incredible ever-lasting damage so you just have to juggle their feed, watch them carefully and know what added minerals/vitamins they need - mine get cobalt/copper and wormed regularly. Also do their feet. Laminitic feet are miserable for every more too. I lost one to lammi this year. Very sad. You are very welcome to visit my goats. They are very friendly and have been de-horned. There is no malice in them and they like a good game of shove!
  24. I have goats - not an expert particularly, but I have two - 1 Anglo-nubian neutered male and a Toggenburg (maiden milker in the summer). they are getting on a bit. The A-N has spent most of his life here (9 years) and the Toggenburg has reached the grand old age of 15. What do you want to know?
  25. I know! The thing is I think it is quite good, really! Now that is scary
