  1. Well spotted Medziotojas, knew I had seen a similar thread before. Threads now merged, welcome to the forums Sha, be sure to contribute and beware of Da Trowies! Oh, for the record: 11111
  2. Mine seems to be running a little slow again http://www.speedtest.net/result/581504354.png
  3. Can the BIOS/SATA controller see the drive? If not then it won't matter which tools you run to try and recover the data, it just won't work. Best option in this case is to stick the hard drive in an airtight bag and freeze it overnight. Once you have done that try it again. If this works then you may need to keep repeating the process until you have retrieved all the data you need. Failing that, as a last ditch attempt, you can plug the drive in and wait until it starts spinning up. Give it a sharp knock. Sometimes the read head can get stuck to the platter. A sharp knock can be enough to dislodge it. Sometimes the controller card (the circuit board) on the hard drive can die. If you can get your hands on another identical drive (NOTE: it HAS to be identical) then you can easily swap the controller card over. If the BIOS/SATA controller is seeing the drive then your best bet is to run HDD Regenerator 1.71. This is available on Hiren's BootCD. It may take longer than a day or two to complete but it does work and has recovered many a drive for me that no other software could.
  4. Saw a variety of things on sale there one year. I was particularly fond of trying the Kangaroo burgers but the queue was too long.
  5. The Davis Vantage Pro series are supposed to be the bees knees in weather station world. I have wanted one for quite a time now but never had the spare cash to indulge on it. Dave Wheeler uses the Davis Vantage Pro 2 for the North Isles Weather.
  6. ^Hmm...you seem to be tarring all kids with the same brush there paulb. Yes, some kids may end up in hospital or at home (where else are they supposed to be?) yet many won't. These might be the same kids that will turn out to raving alcoholics when they are older. A lot of kids can be sensible and share a tin or two with their mates without being stupid. No they probably shouldn't be drinking, yes the law says that 18 is the legal age for a reason but these are teenagers we are talking about. They want to rebel, they want to grow older before they can, they want to see what all the fuss is about. It is an ageing process that most (but not all) kids go through. To say they all end up in a bad way is a very narrow-minded way of looking at things.
  7. ^If she carries on being that emotional then she won't have a job anyway!
  8. Okay ladies and children. This post has gone completely off-topic. Please down the handbags and stay on topic or face random deletion. Muchos.
  9. Well done JAS. Just as an aside I never realised about Shetlopedia's copyright settings. I presumed it was a Creative Commons license as well. I thought the idea of a Wiki was so that anybody could contribute, use and learn from the resource. Perhaps you should make the copyright a bit more prominent as I would have happily used information from there without even considering it might be copyrighted. It looks too much like Wikipedia for people to discern that there could in fact be a difference. For instance: If you are quickly looking for information in Google and open a Shetlopedia page thinking it is Wikipedia and then use that information, you are then in violation of copyright without perhaps realising it. Anyway, totally off-topic, well down to JAStewart, a comprehensive and useful resource.
  10. I had PlusNET further sooth than your good self GR and never had a dropped line, had a solid connection with good speeds (better than others nearer to the exchange than me). UK call centre and a generally helpful bunch. The user forums are very active as well. You can sign up for alerts of any maintenance they are doing as well. I still receive emails from them and they are very open and honest about any problems they are having. For instance here is one I received yesterday:- Thoroughly recommend them to anybody looking for a new BB supplier.
  11. I believe that this feature is currently filed in the 'to-do' section (if it is possible). Oh and I moved this thread to the 'Welcome to Shetlink' section to keep it with the rest of the complaints/praises/suggestions/whatnots. Cheers.
  12. Certainly the Hjaltland flat I stayed in for a while had no garden. It had a drying area though. One whirly washing thing for 6 two-bedroom flats. Not exactly good planning if you ask me.
  13. ^ Very interesting when you try it with the Shetland Times site. It would assume that the majority are supporting the windfarm http://www.wordle.net/show/wrdl/1147562/Shetland_Times
  14. For accommodation I suggest you try our Classifieds section. For advice on the music scene I am sure that there are lots of influential types hanging around here that can assist.
  15. I was of the understanding that you couldn't record a conversation without the other parties knowledge. Just had a look at the Ofcom/Oftel guidelines and it states:- So he could record it but not share it with a third party. Was it not the case that the call wasn't recorded anyway? Dr Wills wife was a witness to the call.
  16. We get loads of them wingless daddy long-legged critters out here. This is one I squished not too long ago:- Speeder
  17. There is a turrety thing between Compass and Sumburgh Head (On the Compass side). I know of somebody that posts here back and forth that has recent pictures of the stuff at Noss, I'll try and wake him up if anybody is interested? Here are some German reconnaissance pics taken around 1944 (I think). http://www.crcshetland.co.uk/stuff/151.jpg http://www.crcshetland.co.uk/stuff/152.jpg
