  1. A lack of MOT and insurance placed us at risk of injury? how does that work?
  2. because when you are out of range of a suitable wifi router for UMA you are then reliant on the normal transmitter coverage, leaving you looking for an orange or t mobile signal Not to mention having to have a wifi phone and have that option switched on all the time, draining the battery
  3. The advantage of vodafone is if youre in a non signal area but have broadband, ie perhaps where youre living when you get here, you can get a sure signal box for about £50 that uses your broadband for a 3g signal
  4. sorry to the OP for the thread hijack by the last 2 posters! Id say Vodafone as thats what I use but I'm sure each has their favourite.
  5. Hi I'm not quite sure where this Shetlands is you speak of but here in Shetland Id say stick to Vodafone or O2!
  6. You can pay sky £10 a month for the recording feature to be enabled if you dont have an existing contract with sky. You could buy a dedicated freesat box that has a recording feature, but then you are getting a slightly different set of channels from the above set up with an old sky box, ie freesat from sky. You'd have to weigh up the list of channels and the cost of a recordable box as opposed to paying sky £10 a month to enable record on the old box. You can of course get the on demand channels through your pc which you could connect to your tv, its not as slick granted but its free.
  7. As already said you can get the majority of freeview channels inc Viva via your old sky box for free when you cancel your subscription. Seems a waste paying for BT vision when you already have the equipment, which is more reliable than a broadband connection. Unless there is something you want to subscribe to?
  8. Interesting article and surely the overwhelming issue is the passage of time and lack of any proper challenge over the years, suggesting an acceptance. Even if it was proved that there was some sort of error or misunderstanding in the handling of the ownership, its now rendered only of historical interest, not law.
  9. Calceolaria biflora? http://www.pinguicula.org/images/plantes/Calceolaria_biflora(LR).jpg

  11. ...so it wasn't repealed in 1951 then?
  12. looking at Serco website, seems a few things are going from the ferry: The premium reclining seating will be located in the current cinema area and will provide a quiet, comfortable environment So I assume there will be no cinema? can hardly have films showing till 1am and then expect folk to be allowed in to sleep. The current à la carte restaurant on Shetland services will be withdrawn and the restaurant and lounge will become a dedicated lounge and dining area for passengers who have booked premium cabin accommodation or upgraded to inclusive service onboard. So it will still create an area thats empty the majority of the time.
  13. Unlike the previous Orkney occasion, I actually do think it was a waste of resources to use it. Money that's better spent saving a life. I suppose it depends on how it was all worked out, maybe the Olympic committee paid for the service?
  14. Is the OP 'proud' to have all the new incomers to his own home town? from what he posted it would suggest not.
  15. British maybe, but not a Shetlander....rightly or wrongly you will be termed a sooth-moother indicating your non Shetland origin. You've hit the crux of the matter by assuming because you're British you aren't seen as a foreigner to Shetland folk. Lerwick's own high street has its own high percentage of empty shops.
  16. Is it standard practise to be served food from a chippy thats been picked up by the hands of the server? what happened to serving tongs?
  17. would be amusing should we get high winds on Sunday and it blows the flame out! Would they have to start again in Athens?
  18. no its not, its not expensive but nor is it cheap
  19. Most folk just advertise in the paper or local shops and don't bother with a rental agent - However you go about it I doubt you would get anything sorted remotely, you have to visit and make your arrangements before moving here.
  20. Tell me about it its absolutely rampant. Down right ignorant, especially as the PM system shows that its been delivered so you aren't left hanging thinking have they read it.
  21. ...I think the question was 'is anyone celebrating', not 'is anyone not celebrating and if not tell us why'
  22. So if you want a car on the boat at short notice you will probably find there is no space because its take up with freight
  23. sounds like the server shetlink is on isn't up to the job of serving so many visitors - pay the forum admin some money and they might upgrade it!
