What Policies would you adhere to?

1. More money for pensioners.

2. End to immigration unless its people with skills we need, but be strict about it.

3. Crack down on those who are unemployed and milking the system and make them do any job, would stop their benifits if they dont do the jobs that are available. Young offenders who were faceing jail for a short term would be offered a stint in the army instead of jail to try and traighten them out.

4. Legalise drugs to stop it being a criminal act, thus freeing up the police to do other things and stopping criminals and organised crime getting rich as they would now be taxed and sold by chemists.

5. Get rid of red tape and PC attitudes, get back to common sense.

That used to happen regularly in Shetland, certainly up until 40 years ago, offenders were given the choice of appearing in court (huge disgrace thenadays) or taking the King's/Queen's shilling. Most took the cash :!:

Strange to think that in days gone by, people saw a court appearance as a disgrace. Most young folk these days see it as just a part of life.

Anyway, my polices would be.

1, Compulsory detox for drug offenders

2, Reduce carbon emissions by legal legislation. Possibly by prosicuting corporations that fail to comply.

3, Investigate new alternatives to jail as they are overcrowded and ineffective

4, Extridite Tony Blair to face war crimes charges

5, Encourge America to extridite George Bush to face War crimes charges.

1. Close all faith schools.

2. All bonuses must be shared equally amongst all employees in the company (no more fat cats).

3. Keep our nuclear deterrant.

4. Ban 4WD vehicles except where a genuine need can be demonsrated

5. Extradite Tony Blair to Iraq to face war crimes charges.

Pretty much how I'd go about it. too.

I'd make Bliar be tried in an Iraqi court, by Iraqis :). Actually, and his son needs to sign up in the army. Maybe then he'll see why people are protesting.

I'd:

1) Try to turn Shetland Green (environmentally friendly, 100%)

2) Push for socialism

3) You have to WORK to get money, none of this inheritance BS, or if you 'own' a company. No. Work to get money (pensioners & children excluded of course).

4) Troops out of Iraq

5) Abolish the Inquiries Act 2005.

What does the Inquiries Act do?

The Act creates a comprehensive new statutory framework for inquiries set up by Ministers to look into matters of public concern. It replaces over 30 different pieces of legislation on inquiries, consolidating much of the current legislation and codifying past practice for inquiries. It covers the setting up of inquiries, the appointment of people to conduct them, their procedures and their powers, and the submission and publication of reports.

* Back to top

What was wrong with the existing legislation?

The previous legislation was piecemeal. The 1921 Tribunals of Inquiry Act was only used for the most serious matters of “urgent public importance†and provides for a tribunal of inquiry that looks very much like a court. A collection of more modern inquiry powers developed over the years, which covered some particular subject areas such as policing and health, but not others such as prisons. Increasingly, governments have started to set up ad-hoc, non-statutory inquiries, often because there is no appropriate legislation for statutory ones.

Sounds reasonable enough.....why abolish it?.

Close all faith schools. I'd drink to that. Just imagine being able to do away with Bishops and Arch-Bishops. Ministers and parsons.

Christenings could be carried out by mid-wives,marriages by plumbers and burials by any friend or relative who cared to say a word at the grave side.

Turn all the churches into bingo halls.

So, Tony Blair should be sent to Iraq to face war crimes? In what court? The one that the new fledgling (though admittedly faltering) democracy has allowed to exist? Or one of Saddam's famously balanced and fair courts of yesteryear in which, basically, you're guilty if he says so?
