Fjool
Those with all the money live a life of luxury while the poor get poorer. Much like our own country, more extreme but its similar.Or, indeed, the world in general.

Styles
Orkneys islands council was asked to donate as well, but had the sense to say that they could not afford it when there were so many things needing money in Orkney. Yes - but Orkney has nowhere near the amount of oil money stashed under the bed. Hence their service industry is much less flabby, and folk serving in the shops will actually make an effort to help you.
Ghostrider
Poor people know what need is....they are usually the most charitable. That theory pretty much excludes most councillors from having the first clue about either then....
NewMagnie
Some of the lowest paid SIC staff stand to lose thousands if Single Status gets approved. I would put it into the wage pot to help these local people out. ...which might buy them all a mars bar. I'm sure they'd be thrilled. Personally I think that spending what amounts to a financial trifle to shetland on an area where it might mean the difference between life and death to hundreds puts the demands of the Shetland public for ever more expensive toys in to stark perspective.
