I posted the Sheatlan word "staand" in the meaning "erection" It has a Faroese cousin; "standing" Is it a Scots (or English) word as well? "Scruv" water surface.That looks like the Norwegian word "skruv" (Old Norwegian "skrúfr") that means the top or upper edge of something. The dictionary says that it comes from the Low German "trappen", so we have probably gotten it from the same source, the Hanseatic League.
