Seaflech
We hear a lot about Muslim extremists, is this now the most widely covered incidence of Christian extremism? For the 'religious' fanatics at this end of the spectrum they may worship different deities and read different holy books, but they have some things very much in common - arrogance, ignorance, insolence, prejudice and bigotry. When will America learn, what does it take for them to realise that their attitude to the rest of the world and its different cultures, religions and ethics, along with a fairly deplorable foreign policy, is only going to further inflame the reaction and actions of certain groups and individuals unless they have good inward look at themselves. This is clear by their immediate reaction to the Sept 11th attacks - rather than sitting back and saying 'How could we have upset so many people to make them do this, and how can we rectify it', their answer was 'Lock and load buddy, we're going to invade.' A little man burning a book in Florida is just that - a little man burning a book. But the message it puts out, on this particular day is immensely powerful. It's a bit like sticking two fingers up at somebody who's just beat the s**t out of you as they walk away - only for them to turn around and see you....... Guest Anonymous
This Pastor could be classed as an extremist just as much as osma bin liner whoa calm down, there is a tad of a differance between burning a fantasy novel and crashing airliners into buildings and murdering thousands of people, you seem to be getting just as carried away as the media, who have stirred this up just to get more headlines no matter how many lives it costs

Guest Anonymous
not disputing that parahandy but this guy is not storming a building full of women and kids and not crashing airliners into buildings killing thousands, he is just a sad individual with a very small following of less than 50 folk burning a book. The media have hyped it up in my opinion knowing what kind of reaction they will get from the muslim world and hoping that by doing so they will get some real killings to help sell their rags and news channels. shetlandpeat
The post was on a social net work. His following I would imagine has increased. Describing another established religious book as fantasy can also be seen as inflammatory. Why take any notice.. Anyone prepared to do something in public like that is extreme, so therefore an extremist. Or, fundamentalist. So, this should be condemned. So should all religious intolerance. There are still a few who follow the bible to the extreme, unbelievers and all that. Just because one does it does not mean we are then duty bound to follow with similar retort. He got his publicity, and failed to go through. Guest Anonymous
surely anyone who believes in any religous twaddle would be strong enough in their belief to ignore or at the very least pity others that disagree with them after all us unbelievers are the ones that are going to burn in hell not them. Or come back as a nemetode if you like the thought of doing it all again, unfortuneately apart from the buhdists most religions like to ram their fantasies down everyone elses throats with non stop preaching as a start and genocide as a final act.Why should i respect such organisations, when they quite clearly have no respect for me or each other

Yes but this kind of thing always starts small, and all of a sudden the band wagon starts to rolling. and all in the middle east start to go potty As for the media there would be none if all stopped buying the papers ectThe foolish fall for every time

JordanKZ
I neither condone or condemn what this guy was proposing. Clearly he's a nut job though. The thing is, if this went ahead... It would be like a terrorist recruitment drive in some middle eastern countries.

EM
Terry Jones (the pastor, not the Python) has been interviewed on the BBC World Service. It is a remarkable listen. The interviewer, Owen Bennett Jones, is so gobsmacked by the inane stupidity of the guy he more or less tells him so. Unmissable: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p009zklg/The_Interview_02_10_2010_Pastor_Terry_Jones/
