BBC & licence fee (merged threads)

Don't worry. They get caught out being biased (oh yes they are) the other way too. Have a quick Google into the flow of BBC execs getting jobs from / with the Tories. Dismiss that and take a look at their political editor. Then Robinson's background. You'll be sending them donations on top of your license fee.

The newsreader was quoting from a report from the Office of National Statistics. Several other news agencies used the same wording. Are they all snobby too?

Indeed. For every accusation of BBC bias toward one side of the political spectrum, you'll find another accusation to the opposite.

Furthermore, and more generally, accusations of news bias are made almost exclusively by people who feel reports are biased against their own ideological position.

An absolutely neutral position is not possible. The selection of which stories get covered and which don't, and which facts are included in a report with a wordcount or time limit, means that some information and context will be left out. However, of all the news sources I regularly read, the BBC is the nearest to neutral.

Commercial news networks have a vested interest in discrediting the BBC as many see the BBC as having an unfair advantage due to license fee financing.

Very simple solution Scrap the Mandate, Scramble the TV signal for those without a license and require Iplayer users to login.

BBC actually has broadcasted a protected signal in the past and post digital switch over you would be hard pressed to find anyone with even a free view that doesn't support the technology needed.

A win win for all!

The BBC says they have to raid the bank accounts of some of most vulnerable in our society the over 75 's because the BBC is skint yet they recently annouced they will be splashing out £100 million to ''increase diversity '' .  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8448225/BBC-spend-100m-TV-budget-three-years-increase-diversity.html

The BBC is really going after the grannies  to get their money . The concept of a TV licence in this day and age is totally out of date where most people dont watch live TV but get all their news and entertainment online . If you dont watch live TV then you dont need a TV licence anyway .  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8598327/BBC-threatens-pensioners-bailiffs-dont-pay-licence-fee.html

Buying a TV Licence is no different to subscribing to the Communist Party and other left wing organisations.  A complete waste of money imho.

Folk should realise that "TV Licencing" is NOT the BBC but, a Private Company that has "won" the contract to collect Licence Fees (and take a cut).   Take it from there...

There are legal(?) ways of watching television WITHOUT the need of a Licence.

If anyone is really opposed to the idea of needing "permission" to watch television, start writing to your MP and tell him/her that you have had enough of this "extortion".
