  1. More people get the call for a particular trial than are required. I seem to remember that the actual selection is done just before the trial starts from those who turn up. I was called once, sat there for a while, then was told I could go as they had selected a jury.
  2. Better still, they should have had John Peter on it instead of Sir Walter Scott !
  3. According to a TV News commentator, as she was arrested at her home address, the police then have to right to search the home.
  4. Yep ! Checked that, Still Bulls**t. I reckon they want me to pay by D/D and that's not going to happen
  5. Any one else had problems with this lot I have just spent 20 minutes trying to get them to accept cards (Visa & Maestro) and they keep telling me there is something wrong with the numbers. Bulls**t. Makes me want to wait for a knock on the door.
  6. VLC Media player http://www.download.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-2194_4-10267151.html
  7. If you have a business account that's where they really hit you with charges. I haven't had one for 10 years, but charges then were £1 for each £100 cash paid in (notes), and £1.20 for £100 of change (coins) requested from the bank. There was also a charge for each cheque issued but I forget that one.
  8. They are already saving on car tax, vat, road licence, fuel duty, insurance, maintenance, so I think they should just pay their council tax
  9. Mr Stove is a former chairman of Lerwick Harbour Trust too.

  12. Have a good look at any note you get, don't take if if looks 'funny'. If you hand one in to wherever you get no compensation, it's your loss
  13. SIC chipped in more than 50% of the CATS total, and it's up to the NHS to lay on hospitals, not the local authority, even if they could afford it, that's why we pay taxes. But Tingwall is not a bad idea
  14. I'm pretty certain I have heard of a settlement at Quendale having to be abandoned due to the encroachment of sand. It had a name too, but is now 'buried in da Quendale Sand'. I'll ask.
  15. Robert Williamson had the shop which is now 'The lingerie' shop or something like that, next to Kelly's. It was Leask's travel agents before that. When R Williamson had the shop they sold and repaired bicycles and wirelesses, as well as being (latterly only) a barber shop, operated by Bertie Goudie. I can remember the window pane in front of the barber's chair had a wine-cork sized hole cut in the glass and was told that the first wireless receiver in Shetland was operated there and the hole was for the antenna wire to pass through. There had been some sort of fitting inside and outside the glass.
  16. Read that and thought of this http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/vaila2/advice.jpg[/img]
  17. As 'different' in this case would also be 'inferior', I would have to say no.
  18. There were plans to fill in the area between the Catch pier and the NE breakwater arm at the marina to create more building land for the Catch. Don't know if that's still on the cards though as the Catch may still have court time coming with all the illegal landings, so further expansion may be on the back burner.

  22. The 'torpedo tubes' did in fact have torpedo launching equipment mounted on them, and there was a boom across to Bressay. At the north end of the harbour there were gun emplacements too, but they were removed along with the 'Green Head' when the 'Norscot' base was created. I have a "Lerwick Harbour Defences" permit, issued by the police in 1940. This was to allow a small boat to go out of the harbour to 'da olicks'
