  1. We take our grandson to the Kveldsro where they have a childrens menu. Also Fort Cafe are good for child's portions but it does tend to be very busy all the time. Frankie's in Brae is great with Happy Meal and gift. Also used to go to the bistro at the Shetland Hotel which was very accommodating to children.
  2. Black kite, red kite, ospreys, common buzzard and rough legged buzzard - check out shetland nature website and see what's around and when/where.
  3. Merlin is a resident, also see sparrowhawk, kestrel, hen harrier, marsh harrier, osprey and peregrine all seen occasionally alondg with buzzards and sometimes a hobby.
  4. Not yet but they are working on it. We went to a public meeting back in the summer to make our feelings known about this. They told us then that even if it were introduced, people with hospital appointments would be exempt. But who knows if they will stick with that.
  5. It sounds like an escapee from somewhere as I can't think of a wild goose like this. I will look out for it!
  6. There is one advertised at the Sound Hall on the 11th with the Cullivoe Band and if you know anybody in Yell, on the 4th there is a Christmas Dinner Dance at the Burravoe Hall on the 4th. Also dances at the Masonic Hall but I imagine you need to be a mason to attend these. All advertised in the Times.
  7. Usually dinner dances in the Lerwick or Shetland Hotels - advertised in the Times.
  8. We shurely hae plenty o reestit mutton an can live affo tattie soup till da boat comes in.......
  9. Certainly NOT Wagner but he probably will as it is rigged...... Pity as there are a couple of really talented people on there and he isn't one of them!

    chutney

Greta Fullerton at all the Tingwall Farmers Markets sells wonderful jams and chutneys.
  12. What a strange thing for Daveh to say that tourists should pay more to eat in the Museum and that prices should be lowered for the locals! The tourists have already paid dearly to get here in the first place and should be treated fairly.
  13. I want to know the answer to that question too!!!
  14. I am glad you realized this was a joke!
  15. Maybe not that many tourists travelling to and from Shetland right now. Only Shetland folk going to do their Christmas shopping in Aberdeen. We are just back (and we had a fine trip) but I'm afraid at this time of year, it is just the luck of the draw. You pays your money and you takes your chance! As someone else said, if they hadn't sailed , that would have been wrong too.
  16. I agree. People are entitled to their own opinions but should not express them so forcibly and, as you say, insultingly.
  17. Bobdahog has stated a lot of truths in that we are very fortunate to have so much money that we have good infrastructure, great care facilities which you don't get elsewhere. People do move here to avail themselves of our facilities and I can see how this might cause resentment. My mother-in-law, who lives in England, has to pay for all the care and benefits which our elderly residents currently here receive for free.
  18. I don't want Vagr or anything else. It is called Voe so Voe it is.
  19. I want a sign erected which says Voe - Ancient Norse word meaning voe........... I am a Shetlander through and through but do get rather amused by Pingvollir, Vadaollin etc etc. Voe is Voe and should be mentioned and recognized as such!
  20. Is one allowed to suggest Sunnivabitch?
  21. Usually only in gardens here so no problem for stock.
  22. Usually one (sometimes two) stalls selling sheepskins at the Tingwall Farmers Market - on tomorrow.
