So you're saying don't let them in? Even though there's likely to be only one or two families (if any at all) in Shetland? Even though there's houses lying empty in the isles? If everyone thought like you then what's next? Let them die maybe? That'll teach them to have the temerity to flee for their lives...

funny you don't hear the same complaints about the frog king farage not mentioning in his election campaign about his past as a banker/stockbroker... the info is out there, but you know, you'd think he'd mention that for the benefit of those who don't have the internet eh? similarly carmichael, shouldn't he have mentioned his support for the bedroom tax and other tory policies in his leaflets? how do these "lies by omission" differ from skene not mentioning a school or religious leanings?

it's getting interesting. i wonder who else knew about this before it was leaked. after all the contents of the memo leak mainly seemed to benefit tories...

For those without internet they could have read about it in the Shetland Times, or even word of mouth, it was hardly (as some are feebly trying to suggest) a state secret.

The burning question is how RELEVANT was this information, how would it have affected his his ability to represent us as a MP?

Danus by accident of birth got his surname, would anyone sane person condemn him for that?

Same for his School, his parents sent him there as a child for goodness sake, he had no choice in the matter.

As for his religious beliefs, thankfully we live in a tolerant society where people are free to follow any religion they choose, why would being a christian have any bearing on his abililty to be a MP?

Rubbish. The question raised is, "Alistair Carmichael memo leak and inquiry: should he resign?" Backgrounds and education were brought in in a feeble attempt to destroy the support that was very definitely shown for Skene and the SNP while trying to convince everybody that what Carbunkle had done was nothing worth getting worked up about. Amazing how many people have stated that the lies told and fraud committed by the present M.P are acceptable and Carmichael should be left alone and everything just forgotten. The sooner that he is dealt with properly, the better.

Did Alistair Carmichael report which schools he attended and all his O grade results in his election communications?

This is the wierdest argument I've heard in defence of Alistair Carmichael yet, the cover up of his involvement in the leaked memo is as plain as the nose on your face. He was asked before the election and the leaks inquiry if he knew anything about it on live television and in front of almost 1 million viewers, he denied all knowledge.Only after the expensive tax payer funded leaks inquiry had found the origins of the leaked memo came from him did he admit his guilt, conveniently after being narrowly re-elected.
Against this is the very definition of a red herring, Skene didnt lie, all the information about his past was in the public domain before the election.

anyway during the next parliament recall will be activated. i wonder if 10% of the electorate could be found to call for a by-election. i suspect it could. so even if the standards commissioner lets him off and he crawls from the court case its not over until he is gone. if the lib's want to retain the seat they really need to start repairing the damage. he has caused them.

we need to also remember our two friends both voted ukip. so i guess being a lying minister would be quite acceptable conduct for a ukiper. probably a little annoyed that their candidate did not even want to win..

The story will run and run as long as Alistair Carmichael remains in his position.
In my opinion he's lost all credibility, he will forever be remembered as the guy who smeared and lied to hold onto his job.

We're stuck with a MP who abused his position as a government minister and then lied about it, misleading the electorate in an election in the process.

I've heard a few people say this is fine as long as it keeps the SNP out, but at what cost? Are we now willing to give our representatives free reign to abuse their position?

It's also worth remembering a majority of 10,000 was reduced to 800 most of them SNP voters who are now the constituents of Alistair Carmichael, how do you think they feel about their representative?

Almost as unforgivable is the position of the party he represents, the Lib Dems are forever going on and on about high standards in office and listening to the people, yet when it came to the crunch, when it was one of their own, they backed a bent MP.

Yes I do, and if you are truly in this situation then you are justified.

To be clear, I'm not attacking you. I'm not saying you don't have the right to a council house. My problem is people saying they're "homeless" when they've not exhausted all options and are putting themselves in that situation out of choosiness. Let me explain...

This country will ensure (or do its damnedest to ensure) everyone has a roof over their head. That's something everyone should be thankful for. When you are classified as homeless, you get put to the top of the housing list and made a high priority. You are given temporary accommodation, as you have, and that can be at great expense because there are no other options than private B&Bs.

To me being truly homeless is about having exhausted every single option. That covers viewing and applying for houses, flats, rooms, shares in a variety of locations, or moving back to the family home (space permitting). Only when you have no option left and are sleeping on a friend couch, or god forbid contemplating sleeping rough, then you should be classed as homeless in my view.

Unfortunately this is an area that can be abused. Anyone can turn up and say they're homeless, and the council has to react. Therefore it becomes a moral responsibility when you declare yourself homeless. You need to respect the situation of every other person on the housing list you are queue jumping. There will be people on that list that have been on it for years, for example: working but still living in the family home, coping those same high rents you're trying to avoid, in overcrowded situations, have had relationship breakdowns but still have to be under the same roof, and countless other situations. They're not homeless or making themselves such, they're waiting their turn patiently.

So if you feel you truly count as homeless and should go in front of the above people, then that's your choice. I will say no more on the subject.

Not quite sure what you mean by "dire".  If a property is in Lerwick or Scalloway then yes, the number of people applying is quite high.  If a property isn't in Lerwick or Scalloway, then quite often, even then, the number of applicants is often less than 10, and if one of the outer isles then it isn't uncommon for just one applicant or for the property to be re-advertised.
