I couldn't agree more! If the council is so concerned about saving money, then why did it waste untold MILLIONS on white elephant projects like the Bressay bridge, the Mareel, Smyril line, and arguably the museum. The answer to me is glaringly simple. Extend the Scalloway school (there's a lot of space available....on site, unlike Lerwick) and have the new 'super high-school' in Scalloway. Maybe that's just a bit too much like common sense... Why does the new school HAVE to be in Lerwick?? Or is it just a case of Sandy Clueless O.B.E. (one boiled egg) wanting to leave another of his lavish marks upon the lerwick landscape..... Could've have saved a fortune if they'd thought about building the 'super high-school' in Scalloway. Still not too late....

I'm totally against the closure of Scalloway secondary just so they can get their super & unbelievably expensive school in Lerwick. Savings need to be made elsewhere such as closing Tingwall Airport. The Islander could operate from Sumburgh. The air ambulance flies to Sumburgh during the night when Tingwall is closed & in days of low cloud. Just a thought By the way, that Mareel should never have happened either. Those who voted for that should hang their heads in shame. Millions wasted on that just to end up closing schools. Disgraceful

Had the fire festival gone ahead, the Jarl Squad would not have been present & many other squads would have pulled out (known fact). I know any sensitive person would not be bothered one bit about the credibility & damage to the reputation of the festival, the inconvenience to the halls & as for the squad members who weren't consulted-not spoken to many squad members, have you?
