  1. I must admit that this story horrifies me. In their case you can see how 'logically' they have arrived at this decision, but their daughter does have rights too. I don't want to argue with anyone over the situation in the story, but consider these situations and think where you should draw the line? Learning disabled daughter - sterilised to prevent pregnancy? Down's syndrome daughter - facial surgery to 'look more normal'? Where do you decide whether someone is acting in the best interests of the person who they care for or whether they are trying to make life easier for themselves? Remember - earlier this week a new poster came out which highlighted that animal charities attract more funding than charities which support people with disabilities (might be learning disabilities specifically - can't remember precisely)
  2. I think Shameless would be in my list. Every time I watch it I end up laughing out loud.
  3. Thanks Peter for the compliment- I'll pass it on to the crew. I must apologise to those of you who missed it because you didn't know it was on. I meant to post up the information but wasn't near a computer for the previous day. It was good fun seeing it go off at last. Next show - after the burning at Up-Helly-Aa...
  4. I was reading an interesting book last night which observed that one patient began hearing the voice of God in his teens - at the same time he developed Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. Perhaps AIMG should drop by the practice for a checkup when/if the doctor is reinstated...
  5. I'm sure that the museum has an ancient tin of this... Very ancient - you probably wouldn't want to eat it now!
  6. Funny how that 'World's strongest man' is always on when you switch on... Like Ally I remember the Xmas Radio Times being looked at with expectation. We would plan to watch certain programmes because they looked good, but inevitably they would be the ones you missed because the family came round. That's when you find those damn strongmen. How about the christmas soap operas with their 'lets have a bigger crisis than normal because it's christmas' - what's the best one of those?
  7. I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in food and drink! Silly, but fun. http://www.eyegas.com/xmas05/
  8. Please tell me - I had to go to a Christmas party....
  9. I found it on youtube - but this is the original site. It's absolutely brilliant. I really must have a go at this - the bairns at the school have suggested it before but I never knew it was so good. http://www.eepybird.com/dcm1.html I think that's the bit that will work.... have a look at video 2 too!
  10. I think it was the way she looked at the photo of herself (Izzy) and Karl which gave the game away - just before the credits. You realise of course that this leaves an option open for the return of Izzy. Perhaps she will die in childbirth, leaving Karl (the only GP in Erinsburgh) and Susan (the only teacher in Erinsburgh) to bring up the baby with the rest of her assembled brood. Has anyone else noticed how there is only ever one of every type of character - like Stu was the only policeman, Steiger was the only sargeant etc. Dee was the only nurse - until she disappeared (do you think she could come back in the same way Harald did) - a role now filled by Katya. You'd think I would have outgrown this by now, but I still watch it .
  11. An incentive to have a designated driver for a night out - if you are the said driver you could have free nonalcoholic drinks. I know soft drinks don't cost all that much, but you know how people like to get something for nothing!
  12. Perhaps we should have a new poll to see what age you feel?! Mind you that does vary depending on the circumstances around me (not sure whether I should provide examples )
  13. hummous and marmite on toast, or seafood sauce and beetroot on toast or Billy bear sausage and tomato sauce or beetroot on white bread, or butter and honey on a brown farle.
  14. Little Fluffy Clouds is one of my favourites, but for an album to make me feel like dancing round the room I think it would have to be "White Room' by the KLF
  15. Thank you ArabiaTerra for explaining a little about our day... It's disappointing when a show doesn't go ahead but we have to consider whether it's safe and whether there will be an audience.
  16. Too much rain and too much wind.... The fireworks are off. I don't know what the decision is about what to do with them, but I'll post up any new. I think that sometime around Christmas or New year was being suggested. Enjoy being home and dry!
  17. Yes the plans are to go ahead (weather permitting) this Saturday at the same time 7pm. If it is cancelled the decision will be made by mid afternoon at the latest and the reception at Clickimin and Islesburgh will know. Fingers crossed....
  18. Apparently an uncle of mine (now dead) was a gun runner during the Spanish Civil War. I didn't find out until after he was dead so I don't know anything more about it (pity).
  19. Wooden lolly sticks - I'm getting the creeps even thinking about the feeling of one in my mouth. (I've perfected a method of eating lollies without touching it other than with fingers) The advert for something with the images made from buttons. I hate the buttons. Children cycling with no lights (are their parents trying to get rid of them?) THe person walking at the side of the Black Gaet this afternoon after sunset, dressed in black with a lamp on their head - I thought it was a bike on the wrong side of the road.
  20. I have to admit my patience ran out and I looked up the solution I t was easy to find with a little searching... I did like the end
  21. Yet again the fireworks have been postponed due to the forecast this weekend. The plan is to look at the weather for the weekend of the 25th (November not December ) and see if it's ok. If that's no use I'm not sure what the plan will be. It's annoying because we had a competition for primary children to design a 'Be safe with fireworks' poster, with the winners setting off the show, and the poor children were really excited about it.
  22. On our foreheads, so that, Paddington style, we have a label if we get lost.
  23. I've just read 'Map of Bones' by James Rollins. A bit of Da Vinci Code, Clive Cussler, suspense, action, pseudo scientific ideas and the fight for good over evil... And all in the one book! It wasn't bad for escapism. I must admit I'm wondering how many other twists on conspiracy theories associated with the ancient world and the catholic church people are going to be able to turn out.
  24. The fireworks at Sandwick tonight at 7pm are postponed again till next week as are the Clickimin fireworks tomorrow. Apologies to anyone who was planning to come tomorrow, but the forecast is too windy again, if only it was like last night. We are looking at whether next week is an option. I'll post up any decisions as I know them
  25. Don't worry - I won't, we don't use rockets! Brilliant headline though - and as for the comment about methane... Its like something from the first of April.
