  1. Nothing comes to an end,it changes from one thing into another. When i die my body will decay but there will always be the remains which will amalgamate into the earth and eventually move around from place to place but never can be completely destroyed. If we travel into space and reach a wall there must be something on the other side . There is no end that we can logically understand . everything is made from something else. Is it possible that all the" bits" that make me could come together and reincarnate me, well I have serious doubts on that one ! There is an awful lot we do not understand and never will. Some people say the body dies and the spirit goes on, I say the spirit dies and its the body that goes on.
  2. Ma'be some of our old kirks would look fine with a "golden dome" Better than going "doon trow da earth wi neglect" Then again possibly not.
  3. 20 more churches to close---- https://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2018/10/15/kirk-numbers-to-be-reduced Shame I hope they don't all end up like the one in Quarff , but what can one do with a building in the middle of a graveyard!
  4. A point to ponder a fish supper in the mid 1960's was 1/6d (7.5p) today this would cost £9 to £11. Even taking into account the rise in wages ect since then it is hard to believe someone if not all are doing ok financially of this. Surely a box of "black fish" would never find it way to chip shop
  5. Biggest problem i see with the Christian religion is the number of different denominations all preaching from the same bible but I assume interpreting it in different ways . They cannot all be right. If everyone was going to the same church then possibly christianity might survive. What other religion other than the christian is like Heinz with 57 varieties. To many of us very confusing
  6. I don't expect God to answer just a chance someone else might know.

    Sea Scouts

How many sea scouts do we have ?
  8. whalsa as we all know it is very difficult to hide "mishanters "from the past in a small community like Shetland . Those for whom it concerns in this book know who they are and thankfully only a very few were involved in the "misdemeanors" as they were at the time. Times have changed now and hopefully none of this happens now .
  9. Usually when folk are restricted from doing something that is the very thing they will or want to do. Think the "drug" industry might be a good example of that. This is just the so called authorities flexing there muscles again probably trying to kid us on that they are worth what they cost us.
  10. Seems the Mortons have touched a raw nerve but the fact is black fish landings did happen and who knows probably still do. Fish is food so no reason why this factual incident"s" should have been excluded from this book, all part of the story. Could be said to be little different to the old smugglers stories of the past. Truth is many of our deep freezes will also be full of "black" products not all fish.!?
  11. It must be very costly to run a pub, staff, electricity rates, rent/mortgage, ect, and those costs are reflected in the price of drinks consequently folk are now purchasing cheaper priced refreshments from the supermarkets and staying at home. Many no doubt watching a movie with friends or whatever on their smart wide screened tvs which is probably connected to super fast broadband
  12. Burning gas pollutes, whereas farming wind..... So its all right to sell it for someone else to burn . Bit like a teetotaller selling booze . Little difference to Scotlands pride and joy the Scotch Whisky industry. They stand up in parliament and brag about the whisky sales but do we care about the many problems it causes !
  13. Lets not forget that some types of ash is a good fertilizer. If my memory serves me correctly all the ash from the incinerator is shipped out as it may be contaminated. Pity it could not be put to good use locally.
  14. True but it is going to be used somewhere ,so why not here so we could reap some of the profits rather than it all going elsewhere. It's going to cause pollution anyway. Think about it with that interconnector cable ,we could be exporting a massive amount of power and no wind turbines to upset those who object them.
  15. Seems to me that with massive amounts of gas available from the west side, should we not be diverting attention from wind to a proper gas fueled power station say at Sullom voe. Daft to send all this fuel south, and build massive wind farms when we should and could use the gas reserves to our own benefit. After all it is on our doorstep so to speak. I'm not against wind farms in moderation but this gas is going to be used anyway so lets us use it first and by the time we have used it all, technology will be a step further ahead possibly eliminating the need for unsightly wind farms.
  16. Possibly the fish are being devoured by seals, otters and other protected wild life not forgetting many could be getting "suffocated" by plastic waste. Global warming is no doubt affecting them as well.
  17. Incompetence unfortunately is present in all the political parties, not that I am defending the Tories. Those so called politicians that cannot carry out the countries vote have no right to be in Parliament and it is them who are causing the biggest problem to our country. None worse than our Liberal party, but if everyone from now votes only for them who respect the ballot box results then the outcome will be very different.
  18. The problem is many of our own folk are to lazy and picky about what they want to do,but also our benefit policies are poorly though out with regards to encouraging anyone to work. As soon as you inform the benefit agency you have got work ,payment stops although it might be a month until the first wage packet. How can someone on the breadline survive a month without money. Really do not know how the "immigrants workers " survive they must have a different set up . Also their appears to be an anomaly in the job qualifications, apparently favouring incomers to locals,or so I am told.
  19. So apparently our NHS, farmers, and many other important employers will be unable to find workers when we eventually leave the EU.(if we do ?) no doctors ,nurses or strawberry pickers ect. This is being blamed on everything except the real problem - money.. Someone from the EU working in the UK will be experiencing a pay cut just now with the reduced value of the pound to the euro. I would think it possible that anyone in a highly paid job like doctors for instance may find that it is just as rewarding to work elsewhere in the EU rather than Britain. So the lack of EU workers in my opinion has more to do with their earnings and less to do with all the political rhetoric being banded about by all parties. Should the pound keep falling UK workers might well find it more rewarding to work "abroad" causing even more problems .
  20. The Charitable Trust investments are doing well so will the Xmas bonus be reinstated!
  21. Please please for goodness sake do not apply common sense. This has to be modern art not a pile of old stones.
  22. Well I don't possess a magic bowl but it is highly unlikely even when they cannot feed the beast it's favorite food anymore they will allow it to die.
  23. Brilliant news---Dales Voe has been identified as a preferred location for the UK’s first ultra deep water port. So is this where the 800 new jobs are to be!!!!
  24. Yes The Cleaner--I'm not into religion but hymn singing was a cultural thing that was done in many schools until society changed it. It was simply the principle of it, and the old proverb "When in Rome do as the Romans do" comes to mind so why should we have to keep changing our ways to suit a small minority.
