  1. http://www.pooks.plus.com/stuff/pb.jpg Yer right!
  2. I could never remember what the real adverts said as all I could ever think of when they came on was 'Charlie says don't jump into the water without your parents'.
  3. Nearly all are ATX and nearly all will do the job. It doesn't matter if you go for a higher powered PSU. 300w is basically the lower end of the line now and most machines need a little more oomph. It is actually kinda worrying how many Power Supplies fail in Shetland. I have often wondered if it has anything to do with the quality of the mains supply or not. When people come to me with computers that have failed PSUs, it tends to be around the same time. I'll get a surge (excuse the pun) all at once.
  4. A couple of quid for 24 hour access is certainly fair enough. There is also an opportunity to include advertising as well. This perhaps wouldn't work too well with locals but it would certainly be no problem with visitors to Shetland. Most of the advertising is based at them anyway. As has already been stated the cost of a wireless router isn't much, most businesses probably already have broadband in place, there is open source Cafe software available which works quite well although you may need a seperate machine to run it on (needn't be a fast machine). I'll try and dig out a link that I read in the past regarding why free wireless access was more beneficial than paid for access. In the case of Coffee Shops/Bars they would be recouping the costs on the products they sell.
  5. I can confirm that the tourist office at Sumburgh Airport does provide a Wireless Hotspot although they do charge for it (couple of quid an hour or something). I don't know if there would be a big take-up. It would certainly be handy but it would need to be free. The biggest use I can see would be for the Hotels to incorporate it for visiting tourists. Pubs? I can't see many folks wanting to take their laptops into the (current) drinking establishments around Shetland. Again it might work in some Hotel's Lounge Bars. Wireless on the ferry would certainly be welcome but it would need to be provided free before I would make use of it. They would then need to recoup the costs somehow which would probably result in increased fares.
  6. Back on topic...when do you think we'll be able to hear the first installment guys?
  7. I wouldn't know I am allergic to them
  8. In a simple word it doesn't. Bank charges are not legally enforceable. Here to help.
  9. All the best guys, it's about time something like this was done in Shetland. Now I know what to call the burgers at my next barbecue! Although Mutobone does sound like the title of a pron movie...
  10. Watched a two-hour special of Dove last night. Stimulating. I cringe when I see Big Brother on the television yet I still stand there and watch it for a good few minutes before averting my eyes. Love it or hate it, it has been designed to get people engrossed in the lives of total idiots.
  11. Nice to see that www.goolge.com points to Google and you didn't point people to an adult search there PB
  12. It is a complete joke isn't it. I would like to see each 'official' trip away broken down into what the exact expenses were for and why each trip took the length it did. I fully understand that some meetings can take place over a matter of days and that there is travelling time to take into account but many meetings only last for a day/half day. What are they up to for the rest of the week?
  13. They certainly had one on the wall when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
  14. This is sadly true. A bag of McCoys crisps costs 60p at the Airport when you can get two bags for the same price at the Toab Shop.
  15. I appear to be on the 10 day run now where the kit at the exchange automatically adjusts your speed to see what your line is capable of. Appear to be settling at around the 3meg mark. Not as fast as I was hoping but still a lot better than the 1meg connection I had before.

As long as they didn't mind sharing the changing rooms afterwords. A lot of money was spent on those new changing rooms, no need to go building any more!
  17. I wis standin' at da holl-idda-waa' da idder day when an auld wife wandered ower and asked me tae help her check her balance. No wantin tae offend an auld wife I agreed and shivved her ower.
  18. Just setup another GMail address To retrieve your GMail via your email client you will need the following details:- Incoming (POP3) mail server = pop.gmail.com Port = 995 Require SSL = Yes Username = Your GMail Email address Outgoing (SMTP) mail server = smtp.gmail.com Port = 465 Require SSL = Yes Require SMTP Authentication = Yes Username = Your GMail Email address
  19. Yup, that seems to be the problem. It isn't so much the folks sending the spam as the fools that have been conned into thinking it is a great 'Work from home' and 'Earn millions' scheme. All you have to do is take our database of addresses and send this message of mis-spelled pharmacy/drug/bolivian peacocks to everybody as soon as possible. When they reply with a legitimite order we will credit your account with as much monopoly money as you can eat.
  20. Have you considered a GMail account? AFAIK it is still accessible through POP3 as well as being webmail based.

  22. I have no idea where the council gets its stationary from at the moment and that is not the point I was making. They can still have the same output without it having to be the 'best of the best' of materials. This I agree with. Everybody has varying opinions on what is and what isn't right but I think the majority agree that the council should perhaps listen to the public more often. I think the point being made is that Shetland could easily turn out like elsewhere in Scotland if we aren't careful...
  23. If it occurs whilst chatting to someone then all you have to do is ask them where they are from and add an 's' to the end of it. See how the beggars like it then! (Probably won't work in all situations but most should be fine)
