Driving whilst using mobile phones

I think that any distraction is bad, but, it is wrong to use the phone while driving. Even more so when folk have a car with bluetooth yet still persist in holdin their phone.

 

 

You may have to talk to the kids in the back but there is no reason on earth you need to operate a mobile phone while driving. The need was invented by those who wanted to.

 

Unless the phone is in a holder it has to be turned OFF when the engine is running.

i dont beleive for a moment that talking on a mobile is any more distracting than a conversation with a person sat next to me, certainly less distracting than children in the back or a baby on board as so many are so keen to advertise.

but we are policed by consent, which would mean theoretically, if a certain percentage, and not necessarily a majority of people are breaking a law reguarly, perhaps the relevance of a law requires revisiting.

There is plenty of evidence, from both witnesses and research that prove that driving having a conversation do not mix too well.

Unless you are very special then it applies to you as well.

most states in the US its not an offence at all, sometimes only an offence in a city, how can that be shetlandpeat? holy jesus sometimes you could be breaking the law one minute and not the next if its your 18th birthday.

its like most things its probably best not to if it can be avoided but i dont think the everyone who answers the phone whilst driving is going to plough through a group of pedestrians.

 

in fact ive often seen people pulling over and pulled over to answer the phone being more of a hazard to other road users.

Where is your evidence to prove that driving and having a conversation holding a mobile phone is no dangerous than say, concentrating on driving.

 

The murder analogy does work, turning around and balling at your passengers is against the law as is using your phone without it being in a cradle. Just because you have seen folk do the first is not a ticket for someone else to do the latter.

The law does not state that your phone must be in a holder, only that you must not hold it in your hand, nor does it say that it has to be switched off unless in a holder. You are allowed to use it in your hand to make an emergency call if it is unsafe to stop. Hands free use is perfectly legal.

Talking to passengers is also legal - whatever tone of voice you choose to use.

The be all and and all surly is being in full control of your vehicle at all times. Accidents generally happen when someone is not.

 

If balling at the rear passengers distracts you enough for an Officer to report you or caution you, then it is wrong to do so.

 

The phone has to be inaccessible. You cannot have it sitting on the passenger seat. The worry there would be the temptation, plus, if you were in an accident, the flying phone could injure someone, if not yourself and could be out of reach or damaged if you do need to call the emergency services because you may be upside down in a ditch on your own one winters night bleeding.
