Roachmill
^I'm embarrassed to nit pick here... but wasn't that by Dr. Hook? Let me just add that I'm not a Dr. Hook fan. Honest! I heard them played endlessly as a nipper and I still carry the emotional scars to this day

Guest Anonymous
For Lyrics that were maybe not dodgy, but controversial at the time.Kris Kristofferson: On a Sunday morning sidewalk,Wishing Lord that I was stoned..... Johnny Cash was told by TV bosses not to use 'that' word, when he first performed it live on his show. But he did, and I think most of America has been 'stoned' ever since.. Ghostrider
^^ Umm....Sorry to be pedantic, but the Bellamy Brothers took "If I said you had etc etc" to No. 3 in the charts in '79.

Johnny Cash was told by TV bosses not to use 'that' word, when he first performed it live on his show. But he did, and I think most of America has been 'stoned' ever since.. Kristofferson used that word in The Pilgrim:Chapter 33 "He's a poet, he's a pickerHe's a prophet, he's a pusherHe's a pilgrim and a preacherAnd a problem when he's stoned" Don't recall it causing any fuss at the time. I can't fault a song that contains the classic line "The going up was worth the coming down". Sheer poetry from the Great Man.

sassermaet
Same here! Sunday Morning Coming Down is a really nice song too. I've also heard a rumour that the song 'There She Goes' by the La's is about heroin, as opposed to the opposite sex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There_She_Goes
Roachmill
Oops, that's me totally disquafalised then.. WinkNope. We're on about 2 different songs me thinks. Anyroad, this is an evil thread capable of implanting deeply irritating songs in yer brain. So, in keeping with this despicable act, I give you:Gonna get up, gonna get up, gonna get upWalk right in'Cause you ride on time, 'cause you ride on time, ride on time'Cause you ride on time, 'cause you ride on time, ride on timeLet me tell you, let me tell you what you doEnjoy
sassermaet
The BBC famously banned 'A Day in the Life' (indeed a few tunes off Sgt Pepper) and 'I Am the Walrus'. The lyrics aren't necessarily dodgy, just...odd.

It was the 'Live on TV bit' that caused the problem with Sunday Morning Coming Down. Especially since Johnny's show was so popular. I can't fault a song that contains the classic line "The going up was worth the coming down". Sheer poetry from the Great Man.100% Agree with you there. Kristofferson's album 'Me & Bobby McGee' was the first cassette I ever bought. In the days when your car either had an ITT KB, shoebox type cassette player, lying in the back window sill. Or, if you were really into music, you fitted a PYE autoreverse cassette player, which cost more than the old banger it was fitted in. Ahhhh.. Nostalgia...Sorry, going off topic.
