JAStewart
Which is your favourite? St Ninians Isle is fantastic, but you have to go on a non-windy dayMael Beach is pretty much the greatest beach in shetland, but Sandsasound is more easily acceptable for me, living in Lerik and all. north
West Voe, Grutness and Spiggie. The Hay Sands had fabulous surf in the old days before it became part of the runway. The Eastshore (Virkie Pool) was always nice and warm, but you had to watch out for the conger eels in the deep part on the west end! 8O

Ally
Da grotty buckie (is that how you spell it?) is a kinda miniature shell beach – it gets my vote!
Tomblands
The Grotty Buckie is quite nice in the way that it is close to town but not close enough to annoy anyone by having music or a barbecue.
Ghostrider
St Ninians Isle is good for scamblers along the beach. Or was anyway Unless it's been a heavy sooth wast for a while, and the middle has gone to a quicksand, or bairns have dug holes....Ouch....and....Ouch. 8O Scousburgh Sand Now we're talking ....Rerwick is pretty good too, just a bit more awkward to get to....and from. Twerto
back when i were a lad the Norby beach at sandness was the best around.. but coastal erosion and local builders taking the sand have ruined it
cazzie
Like Hillswick and when we were at school (in the seventies) a few of us went camping to Uyeasound up past North Roe. Breathtakingly beautiful beaches up there
Guest Anonymous
"Grotty Buckie" or however to hell it is spell it, is that a beach somewhere??Grotty Buckie is actually the Shetland name for a Cowrie Shell. There are many different types of Cowrie worldwide, but the ones found in shetland are about 1cm long, 0.7cm wide and have a raised pattern on the shell which resembles a finger print.Best place to find Grotty Buckies is "Da Laward" at Grutness.
