  1. With Click and Collect heading to the local Tesco store, this seems like the next logical step. If they can provide cheaper fuel than what the local businesses are supplying (and I don't see why they couldn't...) then this is a huge win that might actually stir up some competition. As for the old Leasks Travel Agents, they should turn it into a restaurant. There really aren't that many in Lerwick (I count 6 or so). Although getting permission to do it might be tough.
  2. Odd? we get our Freeview from Bressay here near Walls, signal is fine, even the HD channels? Well... My flat is 30 or 40 years old. It's likely we have a crappy aerial
  3. The freeview signal even in Lerwick is awful. There's a reason why I switched to Freesat.
  4. ^ Did you try to update the firmware on them? I heard about a lot of Vertex 2 drives dying in a short period of time.
  5. You should just pick up a small laser printer. Sure, there's a huge initial investment, but you'll end up spending a lot less on toner in the future.
  6. I bought 8GB DDR3-PC1333 for £40 yesterday from OCUK. To put this into perspective it cost me £100 for 4GB of the same speed in April last year.
  7. As long as: 1, It's reliable. 2, We can choose which ISP we want. 3, It's faster than the 7.5mbit (ha) we get now. I'll be happy.
  8. I feel like I'm the only person who likes well done steaks...
  9. The fact these old Usenet places still exist is almost scary. There's this bizarre under belly of the internet that hardly anyone ever sees.
  10. SSD's are starting to come down to £1/GB, making them a little more reasonable. I currently have a 1TB HDD for my main boot drive and a 2TB drive for work and Steam games (it has 913GB free... 98% of that is Steam games X_X). I was needing to buy a new 2 or 3TB HDD for my file server... I think it'll have to wait till this situation is sorted out. Still, good news for companies that bought a lot of HDD stock recently, make a huge profit off them.
  11. This isn't a price hike. There's been mass flooding in Thailand, 80% of the worlds HDD's are made there. More specifically, the motors used in them. HDD prices are going to sky rocket over the next few months till things get back to normal.
  12. If they come up, I'm leaving Shetland until they leave...
  13. Shetland shops need to start opening on a Sunday, when the boats come in. So they can actually make money rather than complain about the opening hours of a certain super market.
  14. I've been using the Zune desktop client for years. It is down right beautiful, doesn't use much memory and scales to almost any desktop. It is PC only though. (Sorry about the giant screenshots, I hope you have a big assed monitor) I just happen to have some screenshots on my dropbox: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/artist%20view.jpg Artist View http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/auto%20search%20%26%20edit.jpg Auto Search & Edit ID3 tags http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/manual%20edit%20mode.jpg Manual ID3 tag editing http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/Dock.jpg Docked player http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/Mini%20player.jpg Mini player http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/now%20playing%20view%20%28with%20artist%20info%29.jpg Now playing screen with artist information pulled from Zune marketplace http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/now%20playing%20view%20%28without%20artist%20info%29.jpg Now playing screen without artist information pulled from Zune marketplace http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12262937/Zune/podcast%20view.jpg Podcast screen You can download the client from zune.net.
  15. I don't play WoW. But you need to buy a mouse. I know that for sure. You can pick up reasonably decent wireless mice for fairly cheap these days. If you need any recommendations, feel free to ask.
  16. ^ The anon's originally only existed on 4chan and 2chan (essentially the original Japanese version of 4chan). It's basically an image board, meaning most conversations start from someone posting an image and a comment. Since there's no user registration everyone is an 'anon'. Anonymous as a 'society' only really got going a few years ago when they demonstrated outside of Scientology buildings around the world. There's several splinter groups, LulzSec being one of them. If this thing about it being a dupe is true, that's actually hilarious. I don't condone what they're doing, but at least they're having a bit of fun.
  17. Agreed with this. Buying RAM can be difficult if you don't know what you're doing. Run the crucial system scanner and follow what it says!
  18. You get used to it. But everyone is different. I wouldn't have it any other way personally, touch screen QWERTY has gotten so much better in the last few years. My girlfriend who has my old phone (HTC Nexus One which is basically a developer unlocked HTC Desire) gets infuriated by QWERTY so I had to download her an additional T9 keyboard.
  19. Low resolution display...? O_o
  20. MJ, from the sounds of things, you don't really need a smart phone. You need a good old 'dumbphone' with a really good keypad/QWERTY keyboard. Or a HTC Desire Z, the only slide out keyboard phone I've ever liked the look of. http://blog.phoneslimited.co.uk/files/2010/09/htc-desire-z-pl.jpg
  21. The current blackberry web browser is akin to driving a nail through your eye. Neither are particularly pleasant experiences...
  22. To be honest, neither. The Nokia E7 is a fantastic phone with a broken, old, slow and feature lacking operating system. The Desire S is a very small upgrade from the original Desire and aside from the camera and slightly improved battery life, there's very little difference. Three options for you: HTC Sensation(out June from what people have been saying) is the real successor to the Desire. http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/overview.html Samsung Galaxy S II - Out now, very, very fast Android phone and Samsung have made some great modifications to the OS. http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxys2/ or the LG Optimus X2 - Again, quick phone, good battery life but it's running an older version of Android (2.2.1 - Froyo) and I'm not sure when it'll be upgraded to the newest one (2.3.4 - Gingerbread). http://androidevolutions.com/tag/lg-optimus-x2/
  23. Sticking with XP is a terrible, terrible idea. It's almost 10 years old, in terms of computer years that's basically ancient. XP required an Intel Pentium running at 233mhz with 64MB of RAM to run. That is how old XP is. Although anyone trying to run XP on those specs must have been insane!
  24. Windows 8 is looking very very Windows Phone 7/Zune like from the leaked milestone builds (note, this isn't even beta yet, so take this all as a pinch of salt!) As someone who loves the Metro UI design MS has been putting together over the last few years, I can't wait to see what happens here.
