  1. Will they teach the difference between can and could at the new school? One hopes so!
  2. With all due respect, if people claim Job Seekers Allowance and other benefits, they have to be actively seeking employment which quite often means a change in career. Just because somebody previously worked say as an engineer doesn't mean they should remain on JSA if they could take a job as a kitchen porter. Think about it.
  3. Well, dry dock is always an option, I suppose. Just how far in your boat have you been so far? To the regulars: anyone else having flashbacks re Captain Calamity?
  4. Did someone use the word "disingenuous" a short while back? From the same article: "Researchers, who have used data to forecast what will happen to the 1.18 million households where no one works, have calculated that 155,000 (roughly one in eight) can mitigate the effect of the cuts by finding work near their home, while another 115,000 will have the opportunity to move to more affordable housing." Wonder if it's similar software that was used to predict climate change? They forecasted. They calculated. Tell me, what's Mystic's Meg's forecast on it then?
  5. They don't have to do the job, they can leave. Oh here we go again. I forgot that nobody is entitled to post anything if it doesn't agree with your opinion. You know sweet FA as to what Ghostie does, yet you continue to assume. The OP appears to be unhappy if anyone dare to disagree with them and resorts to personal attacks. I think Trout has a point and to that end, I'm sure the OP could find plenty of places in the cloud offering archive facilities.
  6. Software updates from Microshat and anti-virus. Adds to system registry and the like for starters. Edit: Also, depending upon which version of Windows you are running, clean-up doesn't delete temporary files and temporary internet files (I think Millennium was a culprit - I took several hours cleaning up my mate's laptop for this very reason).
  7. I miss it too but if you click on forums, you can always click on the posts since last visit tab and it brings up an equivalent list to that on the home page.
  8. Oy, don't get on your high horse with me! I never blooming said there wasn't poverty out there. Read.what.I.typed.not.what.you.think.I.said.
  9. There's more than one method these days of calculating "the poverty line". Some say that not having a freezer counts towards living in poverty, others say not having a television; others use disposal income. What several organisations (such as The Rowntree Foundation, for example) use as the parameters for calculating "the poverty line" wouldn't have applied years ago. So no, I don't buy into the argument. To me, just because someone hasn't got a whopping 48" flat screen telly on the wall or a fridge freezer or a washing machine, it doesn't immediately equate to them living in poverty. Don't have enough money to buy food and don't smoke/drink/socialise? That I can understand.
  10. Update BT Manager called this morning and said they were fixing SHEFA. I pointed out BT don't own SHEFA. They going back to Openreach for more information.
  11. @DizzyKipper & Hector's House I phoned BT Business helpdesk again this evening. They passing to their Manager the information re SHEFA2 going down and I've enquired as to whether or not we are being re-routed via the microlink again - my own POV is that we are cos it always used to go okay again around 2.00am. Anyhooos, a Manager should be calling me back during the day. I'll keep you updated.
  12. I think it ain't in brilliant nick upstairs. I was also told there was no lift and therefore not DDA compliant hence being shut off.
  13. ^ It went back to normal around 2.00am (whizzed back up to 6.25) and dropped again this evening. I logged a call last night (see previous post) and I haven't had a text update yet so call must still be outstanding. If they don't text tomorrow, I'll phone again if it's no better.
  14. Whilst I wish you luck, you're going to have to shift an awful lot of CDs just to cover the rent of the stall given that you can buy 2nd hand CDs for under £3 including postage on eBay and Amazon.
  15. I just did: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2851169467.png Call logged with BT - they are running tests but so far, nothing is flagging as having failed. Could it be that Glusstonberry has nicked all the bandwith and is hogging SHEFA?
  16. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2851142999.png I'll phone 'em up. Gosh, seems a while since I've had to do that!
  17. I'd prefer a Yamaha V-Max at around 197BHP myself though it might be a tad difficult bringing home the groceries from Grotesco's on it. Still, I suppose I could always borrow Ghostie's original corduroy flares to fit in with the 'spirit' of this thread. Edit: On second thoughts, I'd always wear leather ... far more sensible!
  18. Colin, my reply was in response to SP's post. I'm actually in agreement with you too, it may well be very interesting and likewise, I want a 'come clean' post. Trout did ask for clarification from the OP ... perhaps the OP has to wait until Monday for a decision from the peeps engaging them and in turn 'it' (the consultancy) from their client before they can answer with more concise details. Edit: and SP, it's not the "worry". Besides, I've no need to contact Admin, given Trout's status. Where would Shetlink be without Trout?
  19. Isn't it against Shetlink's T&Cs/Privacy Policy to use data off this site without their permission? The OP hasn't specifically asked for people to pm them.
  20. Are you disputing this in some way? If so what significant change in particular do you think Shetland has been incapable of adapting to? If not what is your point? The OP is making a leading statement by saying this. Proven to whom? The OP then goes onto say "what went well". If this was a project/dissertation, etc., by a student from degree level upwards, it would never get accepted by firstly their supervising tutor (re has proven and the rest of the question) and secondly, by the University's Ethics Committee - basic skills for use once you've finished university. Research I've happily conducted in usually, as the accepted norm, states "We're carrying out research on behalf of [a financial institution/name of organisation/insert name], you sign a consent form and have the right to withdraw your consent. Internet research on public forums is not accepted as being ethical. Whilst the OP states "Any information posted will only be used to analyse and trend the common experiences across different communities and will not be specifically quoted or published." - I suspect that whilst it may not be published in the public domain, the data will be used/analysed/published for internal use. @SP - for all you know, this could be research conducted on behalf of the tory party by a consultancy.
