Muckle Oxters got a reaction from Frances144 in black lives matter
I'm no sure how yun two stories mean 'it's staring to come apart at da seams' - dat's mibee a bit over dramatic, but liklee looks lik dat if you're main source o info is da Daily Mail and Sun!

I think it would be good to compliment this research by testing the intelligence and strength of the people being commented on.
If there is a racial angle we would need to check how strong and intelligent they are per individual,
Because the comments not matching the results would be the easiest way to prove that.

That's pretty much the core message; one which is hard to miss unless you want to. -

Yes, 'he has a point' if you think that a far right group flying a banner as a countermeasure to an equalities campaign is a good thing.
To add to the 'point', it was flown during a brief anti-racism protest over a stadium hosting a sport which has been blighted with endemic racism.
Folk might think that 'White lives matter' is just an innocent phrase used as a reminder that white lives do indeed matter, as do all lives, but like it or not the phrase has been adopted by the far right and has a context beyond just the semantics of the actual words. If folk don't want to be associated with that ideology, then best not use the phraseology. There are many ways to express support for equality but using 'white' or 'all' 'lives matter' is obviously an objection to the 'black lives matter' movement.
However, if folk want to add far right underpinnings to what they're posting, then go ahead.
It would be a helpful time saver if folk would just admit to being racist and give up with the 'yes, but, whatabout....' farting around.

Blackface has had it's day. Much as I dunna condone it I dunna tink laws and bans irna da wye forward. Dir is very few folk I ken dat are actually racist, and labelling and mibee criminalising dem for being oot-o-step we modern tinkin winna help. Much better tae educate folk, explain da context o blackface and let folk mak dir ain minds up.

Blacking up at Up Helly Aa is not so common and you’d think it was endemic they way they go on about it. Our squad have avoided anything that could be construed as racial for at least ten years. Times change.

I don’t think dirs many folk dat believe dey ir going to live forever! Particularly da folk dat ir most at risk fae Coronavirus and idder ailments. I’m had my ain health challenges and towt I might be a goner at ee point, but dat doesna mak my opinion more valid or feel I need to patronise folk online.
I’ve had many an interesting (and sometimes heartbrakin) yarn we folk who have been staring dir own demise in da face and I prefer to take a position o empathy and compassion and do what little I can to comfort dem. I certainly dunna feel da need to tell dem to toughen up because dey’re obviously going to die at some point onywye so it might as well be noo, and I see nae difference between haein a conversation we dem or dem readin whit I thought on da internet.

To suggest we simply do nothing in the face of a pandemic and "let nature takes its course" is reckless. Viruses can mutate rapidly, and spread exponentially, and evolve from seriously affecting weak and infirm hosts to otherwise healthy hosts as virulence increases. Taking swift and decisive action in an environment of incomplete data is challenging but necessary. Mistakes will be made, that is for sure, and many ethical questions will be raised along the way.
Personally, I find the argument that society should let the old and less healthy take the consequences of a relatively unknown virus, particularly a pandemic, is usually ill-considered both ethically and medically, and usually comes from a right of centre political, rather than an evidence based, perspective.
This is an interesting primer from the World Health Organisation (2016) - Guidance For Managing Ethical Issues In Infectious Disease Outbreaks - https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/250580/9789241549837-eng.pdf

From whaur I see it, if we can prevent folk fae dying dat want tae live langer den we should do wir best tae do whit we can fur dem. I hae plenty friends and relatives in dir 80s and 90s and folk we serious health conditions dat are still spangin wee life, wha ir loved and lead full lives. Dey ir at serious risk and proposin we write dem aff tae let a virus rip trow dem shows a lack o humanity.

I totally disagree. We don't have the talent in sculpture that is required for the project, and you want the best talent available from anywhere, not just local. Most of the people complaining don't want any money wasted on art, but it is art money it can't be used for other services as some folk think. There is definitely a need for more art work around the streets and hills of Shetland. Look at any other country.

I doot da side effects of da vaccine are insignificant compared to da risks o measles.
Also fae da NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/complications/
Common complications More common complications of measles include:
diarrhoea and vomiting, which can lead to dehydration middle ear infection (otitis media), which can cause earache eye infection (conjunctivitis) inflammation of the voice box (laryngitis) infections of the airways and lungs (such as pneumonia, bronchitis and croup) fits caused by a fever (febrile seizures) Uncommon complications Less common complications of measles include:
liver infection (hepatitis) misalignment of the eyes (squint) if the virus affects the nerves and muscles of the eye infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) or infection of the brain itself (encephalitis) Rare complications In rare cases, measles can lead to:
serious eye disorders, such as an infection of the optic nerve, the nerve that transmits information from the eye to the brain (this is known as optic neuritis and can lead to vision loss) heart and nervous system problems a fatal brain complication known as subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), which can occur several years after measles (this is very rare, occurring in only 1 in every 25,000 cases) Measles in pregnancy If you're not immune to measles and become infected while you're pregnant, there's a risk of:
miscarriage or stillbirth your baby being born prematurely (before the 37th week of pregnancy) your baby having a low birth weight -

Glad to hear dat. As I wasn’t there I could only make a judgment on the news articles I saw on the bbc and itv news. The overall felling I had was negative towards the protest, not the issue they were protesting about. The deliberate act of doing their utmost to disrupt the general public in many different ways, did them no favours and in my opinion they chose the wrong targets. Holding up traffic, whilst they did their strange dancing, did nothing but anger folk.
I don’t have the answers of how to get this important message across, but I don’t think their two weeks of disruption wasn’t the answer either and most folk I spoke to were negative towards the protest. Kinda shot themselves in the foot me thinks.
mind do, I’m having difficulty in getting the image of a huge pair o oxters dancin aroond we da hippy dancers oot o me mind

I see dy focus is da handful o folk dat clam on da train. I didna say I support dat (and I dunno, and neither do the majority of da idder protesters according to a poll o dir members) but I do support da wider aims o dir international peaceful protest movement.

Steady on there folks, it's not exactly an unknown problem. It doesn't justify sitting on your thumbs (fiddling whilst Rome burns) and ignoring everything else until it's sorted either. You can see plenty of thumb sitting happening on Twitter as supposedly grown men belittle young girls for trying to do something positive. They're the same folk that go looking for the smallest thing someone does that's not 100% perfect and use that to completely justify their own apathy, guilt and laziness; missing the point that someone is at least trying to do something.
Overpopulation of the planet is certainly a huge problem. I personally would avoid saying it must be "cut" though as that sounds a bit, well, homicidal.
