  1. MJ, that attack on Longdog is the nastiest I've seen for a long time !! Follow his blog, and you will see that he is learning about his new "Country", and is really interested !! As for spelling...the Shetland language is fonetic, it differs from place to place, so there are no real rules as far as I can see.
  2. Have got some amazing new photos from the absolute end of SMUHA 2010 Worth having a look at !!! http://shetlopedia.com/South_Mainland_Up_Helly_Aa#When_the_party_was_over........ Enjoy !! Cheers
  3. Closeness to Scandinavia...........????? I'm Norwegian, not Nowegic ........ A person from The Faroe Islands is Faroese..., not Faroesic A person from Denmark is Danish, not Danic..... A person from Sweden is Swedish, not Swedic....and so on.... And where in the world do Alandics live ????
  4. Are there anyone here who have been on any of the evening events ?? I would love to have some pictures for the http://shetlopedia.com/Delting_Up_Helly-Aa page I'm working on If anyone has anything, pictures or info, please PM me....
  5. Did they burn the Galley last night ??
  6. Well, as far as I can see---It originally was the school in Brae that started back in 1970, what's now have become the Delting Up Helly-Aa.... So I guess that it's natural to many people to refer to it as "The Brae Up Helly-Aa"........
  7. I've started a page for the Delting Up Helly-Aa on Shetlopedia : http://shetlopedia.com/Delting_Up_Helly-Aa Now it's just pictures...can anyone come with any kind of useful info ???? CHEERS
  8. Dear Shetlinkers !! I've been adding a lot of pictures into Shetlopedia's http://shetlopedia.com/South_Mainland_Up_Helly_Aa page Thank you to all who until now has provided us with photos !! ( There is absolutly space for more !! ) But I have a problem : Some of the Squads are un named.... So can you please take a look and see if you can indentify them ?? I've put the text "Unknown squad 1" - "Unknown Squad 2" -.....on the photos. Cheers, Oddrun
  9. ^ Yes, we in middle Norway says "bleeg", but we spell it blyg, like the rest of Norway.
  10. I've added EM's pictures into the page : http://shetlopedia.com/South_Mainland_Up_Helly_Aa , and also some You Tube videos. And thanks to the Shetlinkers muckleossa and dumbo, allowing me to use their pictures, our picture gallery is getting really good now !! But I'm hoping for more Cheers
  11. Hopefully this will be the last nasty little riddle you post on this forum, Brian...one thing is to point out that something is wrong...but why not tell what is right ??? This behaviour is childish !!!
  12. I think I have sorted Brian's riddle now !!!!!!
  13. ^^ Can anyone confirm this in one way or another.... Confusing...
  14. The only error I can see is that Brian has spelled the surname wrong on the headline..........
  15. Well, the Shetlanders got in contact with a lot of Norwegians during WWII.... Here is some of them : http://shetlopedia.com/The_Shetland_Bus http://shetlopedia.com/The_Norwegian_MTB_Flotilla_in_Shetland Edit : Opps, this was a comment to fraudrache's last post...
  16. A Ice Cream van from the 80's : http://photos.shetland-museum.org.uk/image.php?i=43751&r=2&t=4&x=1 The one in town in the 70's http://shetlopedia.com/Image:Solotti%27s_Ice_Cream_-_Shetland_Museum_and_Archives_RY00544.jpg
  17. Thanks Fifi !! It was me that was the begger...... More or less all Northmavine pages on Shetlopedia needs upgrading !! Hopefully there are some kind natives that can add something I added Fifi's pics on the Up Helly Aa page, and that was a great improvment, but I need more text.....and captions on some of the pics.... I will be very happy if someone with local knowledge will log into Shetlopedia, ( It is as easy as Fifi says), a add information on the pages, and ofcourse pictures (A picture is sometimes worth more than 1000 words) Cheers
  18. Nice Pics Frances, can I use them on Shetlopedia ??????...please... I just looked at some on Shetland news.....you really have got some snow!! We have an album on Shetlopedia : http://shetlopedia.com/Shetland_in_Winter I hope we can get some more bonnie winter pics on that page
  19. If you go to page two on that site, you'll find links to webcams, but they are offline in town !!! http://www.shetland.org/60NTV/index.html#
  20. Mystery.....that was an easy one to do....the only explanation I can think about is that the batter has been too thin...it shall be rather thick..... difficult to explain....and I would never used Earl Grey tea ........ Da Auld Een liked it so much that I had problem to take a picture of it before he had eaten all
  21. It should be possible....we had a local one that lasted for 58 years !!!!!! http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/more_og_romsdal/1.4387762
  22. The history of the King on the tram goes back to the oil crisis in the early 70's....Private cars were banned from the streets some weekends in the winter, but the King needed his weekly skiing....so he took the lokal tram out of Oslo, and he payed the fare too!! But back to tunnels....we have them everywhere now, and it seems like they make longer and longer, and deeper and deeper tunnels every year..... Shetland can just look to Norway to find the failures.....some of the early under sea tunnels were horrible, and they leaked !!! But now I think they have learned !! We have got rid of a lot of ferries that way, and in bad weather they are much more useful than bridges....but it's sad for the tourists -- not much beauty in a tunell My Shetlander has learned to like them, but he was a bit scared the first times
  23. The New Year has come to Norway now, so I will wish all Shetlinkers a HAPPY NEW YEAR !
