  1. My understanding is that some of Fox was near the Bruce Hostel. I think that was accomodation and it later was converted to a hospital. All gone now of course.

The shortest gig I ever attended was Portishead's first tour. They played for 35 minutes and no encores. It was quite a good 35 mins, but nevertheless we were highly gobsmacked.
  3. I'm not so sure about defying the order but I agree wholeheartedly with your "how" rather than "why" point. The public debate has been dominated by individuals with the agenda that the SIC and CT should not be singing to the same hymn sheet. My fear is that the CT will be forced into a position where it becomes a soap box for SIC bashers. I don't think such an extra institutional layer will do anything other than clog up local government and waste energy and focus. The SIC along with the other Islands Councils pioneered single tier local government. Back in the 80s when living in Edinburgh I used to find the double tier system remarkably confusing and pointless. Having a CT with a different agenda to the SIC seems to me to be heading back to multi-tier government. If that happens it will be an ironic reversal, now that other councils have been reformed to be single tier.
  4. As JustMe notes, due to changes in regulation, "no change" is no longer a feasible option. Even those wanting no change accept that the law is different now. Having such an option on the list is quite strange.
  5. Not so much the site, but rather the information being reported which is incredible. As the title states: It is a really remarkable development, and also quite scary: http://gizmodo.com/5843117/scientists-reconstruct-video-clips-from-brain-activity
  6. Here is an advantage we currently have over "most of the populated world": So, no satellite landing on us tomorrow .
  7. Back in the 90s an Australian firm produced an edible Jesus made from chocolate and filled with red jam. It was called a Sweet Jesus and marketed as The Immaculate Confection. This report is about a more recent chocolate Jesus, but refers to the earlier product: http://www.spiritsdancing.com/blog/trans-substantiation2a.jpg
  8. Check them out this coming Saturday at the Legion (I think). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLlKLeK5ZQk
  9. Given the importance of the referendum announcement I find it quite surprising nobody has commented here yet about the options. Local governance fatigue perhaps. Unlike much of the predictable and inane soapbox posturing which goes on in Shetlink's threads, the options presented seem to me to need quite a bit of consideration. I certainly don't know how I will be voting. http://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2011/09/21/referendum-to-be-held-on-future-of-shetland-charitable-trust http://www.shetnews.co.uk/index.php/news/1858-islanders-to-vote-on-trust-reform.html
  10. I'm not quite sure what your point is. Is it that when somebody identifies an attractive product to provide and starts selling it, others jump on the band waggon? If so, it is hard to see any way of dealing with it other than to try and reinforce particular versions through brand awareness marketing. If the "original" product is indeed premium, and marketed as such, consumers will choose to endorse it.
  11. My understanding is that the dance floor will be the main auditorium with the seats retracted, as in this sketch but without the tables: Here is the same space with the seating deployed:
  12. I actually have quite a lot of respect for Robbie as a popular music performer. The boy has a definite charisma and edginess. I was fortunate in once seeing him play in a small club in Berlin. Very impressive. Strangely the highlight was his cover of Wonderwall. Far better in the more intimate concert, but this gives an idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtWyyaSdlI0
  13. Quite right, pyromania is a joy. The anti-catholic angle is so peculiar in a supposed modern society (even Blue Peter used to get in on the whole deal), but certainly not a reason to stop enjoying the fun.
  14. Yep. I would add that usually the only people who are in a senior enough position to see the wider view, are aware they have to stay tight-lipped or else end up having repercussions. Tales tend to originate with people who are often great craftsmen, but trying to appear more expert in construction management than they truly are. I don't even ask the people I know involved in the construction for gossip, as it is well known "a refusal often offends." That said, as I've mentioned before "fixed price" does not mean fixed price. In order to come in on budget it is clear that some of the bells and whistles are now going to have to be dropped. The "horse trading" will be going on in earnest now I expect.

  16. Apparently Friday 23rd September
  17. Something I posted on the topic a while ago:
  18. That may be true for yourself, but I would say it is generally not so. So you believe I am without intelligence? Interesting. Translation?
  19. Whyever not? Quite an insulting pronouncement.
