Njugle
If you read the T&Cs, which is a requirement of posting here, you'll see that personal attacks or defamatory comments are not allowed. You're supposed to read that before you post. Itz da roolz.

Claudias
A thread has just been locked because a user stated that she/he hated the sound of certain councillors voices. That surely is simply a personal opinion and people can respond or ignore it at will. It is not questioning the abilities of either person. On the other hand, many pages have been written about the antics of councillors Duncan and Wills, making defamatory comments about their morals, childishness, professional conduct etc. May I add that I don't mind the sound of their voices. Will that get those threads locked?

shetlandpeat
Ah, this is hard.. Ken Livingstone had one of them voices not suited to radio, but I did like him and his stance. So, mmm, Buster Merrifield was odd on the radio too, but the guy who played Father Jack had a fantastic radio voice...
EM
Something which I find perplexing is the employment of people with speech impediments as news readers. I should stress (strongly) that I am talking here exclusively about news readers, not reporters or other kinds of specialist presenters. I do not think that having a lisp should limit people's eligibility to do most jobs, but reading the news is IMHO a definite exception. In particular there is one woman on the BBC World Service who just can't speak clearly. If I am having difficulty interpreting her words then what hope do people around the world have of getting the news. There is only one requirement for a radio news reader, namely the ability to talk clearly.
Pooks
You may be amazed of this thread which discusses the vocal abilities of various Radio Shetland presenters in great depth.
JustMe
Surely if you put yourself up for election and then speak on local radio you have no real gripe if someone on Shetlink or elsewhere says that they find your voice annoying. After all it is just a matter of personal opinion in the same way as saying that a singer is terrible.
MJ
the "new guy" on radio four. The continuity announcer from jamaica, he's got an amazing voice, just not for radio four.
DamnSaxon
Before he died, Ned Sherrin really got on my wick, to the extent that I turned off whenever he came on. He always sounded so full of himself - would preface some completely obscure fact with "Of course", as though to suggest that anyone who didn't share his own expansive knowledge was a lesser being. The other side of that coin is Robert Robinson, though I know he gets on some people's nerves too. But I like the way he will often disparage himself with a comment like, "Ah, but I've got the answer written down in front of me" - while still sounding as though he did, in fact, know it. My current irritation (sorry, MJ!) is that Jamaican announcer on Radio 4. Sure, he has a "fine, resonant voice", but for my aging ears he's about 3 octaves too low to be intelligible. He reminds me every time of something from a "comms" lesson one of my employers taught us years ago - to improve communication, pitch your voice up. And that's apart from crass, overpaid idiots "joking" about "scr*wing your granddaughter", a case which ought to convince anyone that the Beeb, if ever it was "Auntie", sure ain't now. Thank God for Radio 3, still a quiet, cultured little enclave (even if few of us listen to it). And of course, as a Radio 4 listener, I love Charlotte Green, even if it does sound a bit like she's eating the microphone.
Styles
Florence Grains has a terrible voice on the radio. That Joe Pasquale has a voice that makes you for some reason want to punch him.

He does take some gettin used to but, he does articulate very well.
