  1. no, not quite, Llyods bailed out Bank of Scotland, the tax payer bailed out Llyods.
  2. most of the town centre is covered through SIC, Peerieshop, Bayoni etc & 60north (tourist one) the 60north needs a passcode either pop in to somewhere that hands out cards or phone up the tourist office and the nice man on the phone will give you a code, there's also a 60north you can pick up on the northlink boats while in the harbour, hence the getting a passcode over the phone experience. Walls is mostly locked now, but "freenet" will cost you a whole $2 a month, it's a pity that the abuse of the few effects all. Braewick cafe (60north), Scalloway hotel, Sumburgh airport, Spiggie hotel, I believe the Shetland hotel does, last time I tried the Grand it was locked (I had access to two other private networks so didn't try hard) most places if you ask will give you the code as long as you're a paying customer. Most SRT buildings and most carecentres have SICGuest, but not Wastview (and oh do we miss it waiting at the healthcentre) Being an O2 customer gets you access to BT openzone, if you check with your phone providers I'm sure others have similar arrangements.
  3. Far better these kids were out of sight drinking alcohol and using drugs. It'll save the wear and tear on street furniture now, forget the costs to society later.
  4. don't you just lurve the Los Angeles spam, ever so handy for Shetland.
  5. JBT used to be fantastic for pallets up. Been a few years but they beat everyone's quotes for a door to door service.
  6. Sorry Kavi where were you? Norwegian crosses seemed to be everywhere today. Must admit with everything else happening to me personally today, it took a while for me to twig why
  7. Khit do you not have iplayer desktop? you can download to watch at a different date, good for boat journeys, loading it up with dr who in starbucks before coming back up
  8. Shetlandcars' residence is/was connected to a covered well (by pipe) so may not have been a good judge of the mains tap water if still connected to the well. Water is now running clear from the main as opposed to the milky substance last night.
  9. Well even the cats aren't drinking it here, nextdoor's the same. Is the House on mains supply? It could have worked it's way through by now of course, not checked in 4hrs, don't exactly want to either.
  10. I'm sure Twerto wrote a review somewhere.... edit. speak of the devil he clicked before I did
  11. Checked with only neighbour willing to drink the stuff. Someone's coming out tomorrow, unfortunately it tainted the boiled veg. Nasty had to get bottled water in.
  12. Anyone else having problems with their tap water quality, ours is tasting particularly bad, where do you report this? it actually leaves a burning sensation on the tongue?
  13. roughly doing what you have, as all the mods are volunteers and have lives of their own, it may be a short while for one of them to get round to it.
  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01hmv4r Matthew Solon - The Man Who Came Back 4 Extra Debut. The heroic Norwegian seamen and their vital wartime 'Shetland Bus' lifeline. Based on real-life events. With John Rowe. on at 11.15am & 9.15pm or available to listen again above link for 7days
  15. Well then I wouuld suggest speaking to Scottish Enterprise/HIE or what ever they're called now, down at the Northness Business Park. If it hadn't been for the "Decades" mention Princes Trust might have been a suggestion but you need to be under 30 (but I've put it in for others who read this who it might be applicable for) HIE website http://www.hie.co.uk/highlands-and-islands/area-information/shetland/ If you hover over the names it's give you the details of the folk that work there
  16. There is an extreme shortage of registered childminders on the Westside, you'll find there's no problem in filling places. Good luck!
  17. Or the London underground... More public money is spent on subsidising Londoners than any other region per head of capita.
  18. Anyone else finding that small packet deliveries are taking a rather long time at the moment? If I get stuff sent 1st class it'll take 24hrs to Lerwick or upto a week out here, 2nd class is taking 10-14days, it seems daft that I should have to use someone else's address to make sure that I get items in time for birthdays etc & spend the extra £5 to pick it up, if I really wanted the joys of paying extra to pick stuff up in town I'd just let them send it by streamline.
  19. errrm no thanks. A lot of folk are quite happy with no cabin when it comes to saving in excess of £50 a night. Don't see why I should subsidise those in luxury whilst I sleep on a couch Fine that for you maybe, but your male and don't have bairns to worry about, or have to go to work &/or school straight off the boat. Nor have you known a different service where having enough beds at a low enough price that you wouldn't dream not having a cabin.
  20. depends on whether they're planning on running a passenger & freight ferry service or another floatel service. Lets face it the SNP "Government" are unlikely to care as we don't vote for them.
  21. ^sexist much? Boys? I ken a couple of the lasses and at least 1 of them uses this forum. Isn't it a pity so many forget what it was to be young, I'm sure it'd be far better all these young folk were out of sight drinking alcohol and taking drugs. I'm sure the car user had a perfectly valid reason to be going into a pedestrian zone. I know the worries about having a small child around active teens, used to worry about mine when she was little and the skateboarders by the main bus stop in Aberdeen. But the lads knew teaching the little kids about skateboards brought "brownie" points from the lasses, she even ended up in some skateboarding video at age 3. I'm not trying to defend anything dangerous to others, but really, you'd think that half the regular posters here had been born OAPs
  22. But it doesn't say which version? 2011 was by all accounts dire, 2012 has some singing all the praises. It it is awards truely for 2011 then it's the wrong version. Amazon, ebuyer etc reviews are very good. 19seconds start up this morning =D very happy, my computer no longer sound like it's battling with what's it's running.
