  1. Everywhere else of course. I think I'm going to start a new thread: "Trouble with KOYAANISQATSI" Everywhere but the neutron star? So the neutron star doesnt have any gravitational effect? This is bonkers...
  2. If you had any real evidence for this, you'd win the Nobel Prize for Physics. Evil Inky you've made my day, excellent! No. A.1- Because the black holes obey the laws of physics, and as far as I'm aware don't have any sort of cognitive power which might allow it to "decide" to leave. A.2- The rest of the galaxy orbits around it, also obeying the laws of physics. KOYAANISQATSI, here's a question for you: Gravity is pushing from where? I thought gravity was an attractive force between objects with mass? Hence the reason: if you fall off your bike you are not thrown into the air at 9.8 m/s? Or the fact you can stand on the earth at all? In fact by your reasoning the first humans would have had a repulsive effect on each other (in outer space unable to walk on earth), and man would have ceased to exist, very quickly.
  3. Both of those articles have no reference to there being NO black holes, just that Neutron stars may be more abundant. Couple of points here: 1. MAGNETOSHPERIC - is a term usually used to describe the outer region of the earth's ionosphere. 2. ETERNALLY COLLAPSING OBJECTS - "general relativity describes a black hole as a region of empty space with a pointlike singularity at the center and an event horizon at the outer edge." You are talking about the star that became the black hole, and it's not "eternally" collapsing: "Stars undergo gravitational collapse when they can no longer resist the pressure of their own gravity." "The collapse transforms the matter in the star's core into a denser state which forms one of the types of compact star." "Only the largest remnants, those exceeding a particular limit (the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff limit, not to be confused with the Chandrasekhar limit), generate enough pressure to produce black holes" "Any remnant this size will never be able to stop collapsing, and when its outer radius falls below its Schwarzschild radius, the transition to black hole is complete." You see that sentence doesnt make sense, and is just plain wrong. I find it strange that you would dismiss "black holes" before actually knowing what you're talking about? Stop making stuff up and get your facts straight...
  4. There was no big bang, that is to say the Universe has no limits in space or time. It's not short sighted, it's just the bigger picture you're not seeing. I'm not sure what you mean... Firstly to the best of our knowledge there was a big bang, there is loads of evidence to back it up, and its best theory that can explain most of the phenomenon of our universe i.e. how elements formed, starts galaxies etc. It might not be correct but its best theory yet... Secondly "Space - Time" exists inside our universe, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. Would you be so kind as to enlighten me with the knowledge of the "bigger picture"? Sorry just to add another point, we are pretty sure black holes exist. We have recordings of Radiation (X-rays etc.) being spewed out of black holes, which was an idea first put forward by Steven Hawking called: “Hawking Radiationâ€. You can also see its effects on the orbits of stars, and galaxies...
  5. That simply isnt true KOYAANISQATSI. I think you'll find what Einstein actually said is that nothing can accelerate past the speed of light. Your mass will increase the faster you approach the speed of light untill it becomes INFINITE. (E = MC2) By the way the term infinite has a huge amount of meaning in mathematical terms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity But this does allow for particles already travelling at speeds faster than the speed of light i.e. Tachyons. Oh and one thing that does prove both General and Special Relativity is Time Dilation, it's been proven by experiment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation
  6. KOYAANISQATSI, I'm confused. Are you having a dig at Einstein or at physics in general? If its Einstein then you should maybe make that clearer in the poll...
  7. KOYAANISQATSI, You need to join a philosophy class or something. Some questions cannot be answered, yet... i.e. why is the universe, where is it and so on. A simple way of looking at it is to take the not so distant human race, who thought that the earth must be square, and said wait if you go over the horizon you fall of the edge!; of course that’s plain ridiculous, you go around the earth, we learned that its close to being a sphere. Same thing here; where’s the edge of the universe? Humans in the future might laugh and say, don't be silly there is no edge you simply [Future self fill in blank]... We are very limited beings in our imaginations, scientists now think that there may be 16 dimensions; we are incapable of imagining that, because we are stuck in a 3 dimensional mind, it’s all we know... But the math seems to work... To take the stance of "I've had it with this lot. I don’t care what Hawking says next, I don’t think there ever was a big bang, there aint no black holes and gravity’s pushing out the way." is kind of short sighted, and ignorant. Just because your / our imaginations can't imagine the strangeness of physics and quantum physics, doesn’t mean it’s not true, or as true as we can figure out. On the grand scale of things don't you think it’s really quite strange that the universe is here at all, why, when, where etc? Mind boggling. Isn't it also true that these strange questions could be followed by even stranger answers; it seems to be a logical way to look at it?

    Royworld

New band I'm listening to: http://www.myspace.com/royworldtheband Anyone lucky enough to be heading to the Tunnels to see them?
  9. Uh hu, ever heard of something called Spam filters?
  10. "Social Engineering" lol, not as easy as it sounds. Unless you know a hacker, it’s unlikely you'll ever have the chance to visit the "malicious URL". Wouldn't worry about it...
  11. I "trust" science. Science doesnt "need" to be trusted, it is fact with or without human interpretation.
  12. I agree that it is good they are making an "effort" to come, but I remain they should have used the Clickimin. Anyone can see it makes more sense with respect to punters, and the financial aspects for the band. I don't think its "rich" at all... I queued for an hour and a half, before they sold out ten people ahead of me. I was obviously mistaken on how dedicated you had to be; maybe you could help me on that one Marvin?
  13. Should have been in the Clickimin. Weisdale hall?! Honestly.... I realise that the band requested small venues through-out their entire tour. Very cosy... They fail to realise that someone missing out on one of the gigs on the mainland has the chance to see them again and again, whether it be on this very tour elsewhere or the next time they play the SECC. Here it’s a different story... When’s the next time something of this calibre will be happening here? Poor show guys.
  14. Yeah saw it last night. I thought Dawkins made a very interesting case. And I found him to be very restrained. I know I wouldn’t have been... The astrologer from the observer was great. The only reason He didn’t want to take part in the experiments is because he knows it would not stand up to scientific experiment. Hmm yeah I kind of thought it was something called general relativity that predicted the orbits of starts and planets? People seem to immediately take a defensive stance when we people of "science" question their beliefs, it almost seems like an attack to them. Science unlike superstition, and religion, is open to change and finds answers by experimentation. We have come so far, yet people still behave like Neanderthals. Get a grip...
  15. Because of the ideals. The label owned nothing and the bands had the right to F-off. It was a social experiment.
  16. LMAO, ha ha! Who is this guy?!
  17. I see. Hope to be there. Like the avatar btw. good good, double good...
  18. Would it not be more sense for the final night to be on a saturday?
  19. DECT is basically just a digital protable phone standard. Yes it works anywhere there is a BT socket... Caller ID should work... the exchange can't be that old? Buy a DECT phone with as many additional handsets as you want.
  20. Or just use your computer, and do something better with your spare time...
  21. Yes Ghostrider, because you've drawn attention to that fact; Lerwick has been renamed Harry Potterville. Thankyou.
  22. **mod edit - new thread entitled "Sexy Singles Adverts?!" has been merged with existing advertising thread** Come on guys; you haven't stooped that low have you?
