It's slave labour, just the kind of things the torrys like. However if i had been unemployed long term I'd do anything to get something current on my CV. grift
Sadly in Shetland.. We don't have much of a choice! As Tesco is God...To putting food on the table unless you use the Co-Op!Pardon? Plenty of people I know don't use Tesco, and we manage to feed our families! Personally, I don't use Tesco for simple economic and sustainability reasons - they import goods to the detriment of local and national suppliers with associated environmental and transport costs, they have a stranglehold on the national suppliers they do use, millions of pounds of locally earned wages disappear out of the local economy without touching the sides every month..... and I don't see much benefit to the local economy other than some jobs which have been displaced from other shops. You can volunteer and do some good for your community. No need to resort to extortionist policies. You could take on some training, on-line or part time at college. JustMe
I just bought some "medicinal compound" from my local shop......a half bottle of Grouse to deal with what may be toothache. Handed over some money and a little of that will stay with the shop to pay wages and other costs as well as contributing to the profits. Bit more will go to whatever wholesaler it came from........Grays at a guess. Rest of the money will go off the island contributing to the distillers profit and government taxes. Difference from buying it at Tesco would simply be that Grays get a cut. Rest of the money goes off the island anyway. And apart from things produced on Shetland that is the same no matter if I buy from Tesco, a town shop or my village store. And to be fair to Tesco they do seem to price Shetland products to sell even if the price undercuts Tesco's own brand.

shetlandpeat
A little gem from the GOV for those who are unable to work due to sickness. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/feb/16/disabled-unpaid-work-benefit-cuts After their assessment, those deemed to go on the W.R.A.G. section will have to sign to say they will take part in any scheme the GOV requires of them. It is broken down here... http://www.latentexistence.me.uk/government-taps-sick-and-disabled-people-as-source-of-free-labour/#comments This could help Tesco and others who sign into this scheme. Be warned, they are coming to get YOU!!! http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/About/General/2012/2/17/1329522653993/Martin-Rowson-cartoon-004.jpg Cheaper propulsion for the new ferry? eenoo
If you are on job seekers allowance for more than 13 weeks the job centre will put the job seeker on a placement called "new deal". This is where the job seeker is employed, by many different employers (not just Tesco) across the UK, for pay little more than they already get from JSA. It is a gateway to work program which may lead on to permanent employment. This is all to do with the government. As for Tesco being the talk of shetlink once again, shop in Tesco if you like and if you don't, then moan on another web forum. It is getting boring!
