Frances144
That is very very sad. I love their seedy loafy sandwiches (chicken and bacon)
MuckleJoannie
The owner was on Radio Shetland at lunch time saying that he'd had an offer for the building so I guess he's getting out while the going is good.
piggywiggie
Closing down?! They did my wedding cake, that's a shame. I like their cream buns.

mogling
Sad news indeed, yet another piece of history gone I worked in Malcolmsons on saturdays when I was at school, we had fun & ate lots of breads & fancies..I will miss the Fruit Youmas, the doughrings, jam doughnuts, Softies... http://www.tescopoly.org/
owre-weel
Another piece of Shetlands past bites the dust. Not convinced you can blame the supermarkets, as the business seems to have been poorly operated for a while noo. I have driven to the town to find the shop closed and often little choice of bread etc. The place was looking a bit grubby of late. But I did love their butteries. Sad to see it go now as that leaves the town without a bakery
tooney1
Have to agree with the above post - they've just not done anything innovative in years, and their lunch time pies/sausage rolls are way below par. Sad to see it go all the same.
lydz
What securityman has said is all true. My partner works there and is losing his job as well. It's a shame but not surprising.
Kavi Ugl
It's a real shame and a bit of a shock but maybe the writing was on the wall, especially after some of what I see and read above. However, it's years since I bought any Malcolmson's stuff because I just felt it was bogging. The other Shetland bakerys are miles ahead. A friend of mine who went for an interview with them some years ago layed warnings on me never to buy anything from there after what he'd seen I wonder who's bought the building?. owre-weel
(*** Mod - clip snippity chop ***) So surely you'll be happy to put your proper name to the above post if it's true? Either that or edit it a bit as it is a bit too much information for a local forum. Obviously someone with an axe to grind
werder
Is it just me that think all bakeries in Shetland are below par? It doesn't surprise me to see them go out of business at all to be honest. All of the bakeries are essentially the same, the same cakes, same icing, same bread. None of the bakeries (except from rolls) can bake a decent loaf, and surely that should be a bakeries staple?! Shetland really does lack a good quality bakery that does something a little bit different!
MuckleJoannie
This is the official Food Standards Authority information http://ratings.food.gov.uk/search/en-GB?bn=malcolmson&ba=lerwick&sm=1&st=1&pi=0&sc=%2fsearch%2fen-GB
