  1. You people need to move ISP's. I've had nothing but brilliant service from Plusnet. No problems with streaming video, downloading files and constant speeds.
  2. I've never really "got" Starcraft. I'm more into base building RTS like C&C, Age of Empires and Rise of Nations. The whole, build and rush tactics of Starcraft make me die inside.
  3. It's always surprisingly busy in there. Plus the fact that their products are often far more expensive than the co-op, which must help.
  4. There used to be an company that used to run paint balling in Shetland, in actual fact it was the brother of someone I work with. Apparently business wasn't great and he had to shut it down though. Real shame, I used to do it weekly when I used to live back in Yorkshire. Lots of fun, even in the freezing cold winter
  5. I got the same call actually, but I decided to call back just in case. Turns out there had actually been a huge amount of fraudulent activity on some HBOS accounts, they cancelled my debit card and issued me with a new one. First time HBOS have actually done something timely and taken the initiative...
  6. Yeah, all those ActiveX controls being open make IE super, super secure. I wouldn't use anything that doesn't use WebKit these days... At least not until MS buck their ideas up!
  7. ^^^ What's that? A trendy art student using an Apple product? Never saw that coming.
  8. I would have to strongly disagree here. Considering the traffic is completely unshaped and uncapped between midnight and 8am, as long as you have a scheduler on your torrents or whatever it's perfect. Waking up to several new TV shows is always a good thing. *cough* not that i'd know ANYTHING about that!
  9. Plusnet are brilliant. As long as you do most of your downloading between midnight and 8am, the speeds are pretty fantastic for basic downloading/streaming. Never had a single problem since I switched from o2.
  10. Love how it took only 4 years for them to catch up to competition. "omg it has appz! gotta buy one!" ¬_¬
  11. So the guy shut up shop and still has peoples things? That's pretty messed up. What was he charging anyway? The one thing I can't stand about people who know a bit or two about how to use or fix a computer is the ones who want an extortionate amount of money to fix the problems! I regularly fix problems with my friends or friends of friends computers for nothing after work. Charging more than £10 to look at a problem (not fixing it) is literally insane.
  12. This is one of the few Wii games I was so excited about I ended up importing from the US... >_> It's probably the most fun I've had playing a game since the original. The later levels are damn hard though.
  13. Yeah, I had "emergency calls only" on my o2 phone for most of last night, signal seems weak at the moment, but better than yesterday.
  14. You can finally get that bank account you've always dreamed of?
  15. Gran Turismo 5 was supposed to be out already in Japan by now, it's been pushed back further and further. Hopefully we'll know next month as to when Sony finally decides to stop modelling cars and actually releases the damn thing. Put it this way, Turn10 have pushed out 3 Forza Motorsport games in the time it's taken them to make an actual Gran Turismo game (and to be honest, Forza is a far more exciting racer... ) As for graphically? GT only runs at 30fps, which is why they can make it look so much nicer anyway, I'd rather have a pretty game running at 60fps than one that runs at half the speed but twice the prettyness. Isn't the sense of speed the most important thing? And I hope to god they finally ditch the PS2 physics system, I'd like to actually tune the car and it make a difference to how it handles. Besides if we're going by GT5 Prologue standards, it isn't going to be -that- good looking. But, I'll wait till it finally comes out before making a judgement. I remember earlier in the year Polyphony Digital said something along the lines of, if you play the game in 1080p then it wouldn't have any anti aliasing. Jaggies ahoy.
  16. yeah maybe but the 360's graphics are well used in all games. until gran turismo 5 is released then we are nowhere near pushing the ps3 to its capability's This usually comes down to the fact that most 3rd party games are coded on 360 and then ported over to PS3. But first party PS3 games God of War 3 or Uncharted 2 make the PS3 do things the 360 could only imagine. Then again, Alan Wake just came out on XBOX and it has by far the best lighting I've ever seen!
  17. Comparing the 360 and the PS3 is like chalk and cheese these days. I own both and there is so much on both that you may as well buy both 2nd hand for the price of either brand new. Generally speaking, 360 is best for third party games, online support (although it ain't free), exclusive features like Facebook/twitter/last.fm/Sky Player and the mass online games like 1 vs 100, has by far the best original downloadable content and usually gets a lot of third party exclusive content too. It also has the best controller that I've ever used and has a huge, huge catalogue of games now with some real stand outs. The PS3 is best for it's first party exclusive titles like Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank and that sort of thing. The PS3 usually gets the more "bizarre" titles that would never hit XBOX because there's no audience for it such as 3D Dot game heroes or Demon's Souls. It has free online play (which is pretty feature lacking! And apparently Sony are announcing a premium service in June). Saying that, the Playstation Store is improving by leaps and bounds. Thing to really think about is, what kind of games you're into. Usually though, if you're just wanting to play the odd first person shooter, you're probably best off with the 360. Oh and Zibiddy, the PS3 has a far more capable graphics architecture! When used propperly that is.
  18. It's fairly hard to say. Really depends on what kind of technology they use. They basically have two options. Fibre to Cabinet (which means you'll still have a copper connection from your house to the phone exchange) meaning you can only get around 40mbit. However Fibre to home is theoretically limitless. But will cost a heck of a lot more and will mean you'll have to have a new fibre cable connected to your house. It really just depends on what they end up doing and how much money they're will to spend.
  19. Cheers for the advice on this. I'm currently awaiting my router from Plus.net and I've been using sending @'s to their support on Twitter which has been great. Should finally be off o2 as of Friday. And then I'll finally send back the router they've been pestering for!
  20. I thought iPhones and iPod Touch's have locked down API's when it comes to file transfer and the utter trash that is iTunes is the only thing that you can use to transfer content across? At least that's what I've had to deal with in the past. But as for using it? Instructional manuals really aren't needed. If you have a problem, Google it. There's so many Apple fansites and forums out there that it's usually impossible to come across a problem no one else has seen.
  21. ^ Totally agree. Many shops around here take advantage of being a monopoly. Hopefully this will finally force the prices of electrical goods down if Tesco start selling bigger TV's etc. I don't think I've ever bought a computer game in Shetland whilst I've lived here. The £15-20 mark up is literally insane.
  22. Well, got sent an email from o2 this morning saying If I don't drastically cut down they're disconnecting me this month. So, let me get this straight! They have an "unlimited" bandwidth option, which I pay for. They have no fair usage policy and they said they were going to increase line capacity. They're still charging me for an utterly crap service (it drops to less than 200k sometimes). At most I'm downloading a GB a day. So by their estimates 30ishGB a month is a lot? Jeez. Time to jump ship. Currently got three options: BT Plusnet and Virgin Not sure who I want to go go with yet...
  23. Knitting isn't a particularly vital skill these days considering how easy and cheap it is to buy your own clothes... Sowing might be more useful, but what else do you need outside of being able to patch a hole in something?
