How good is Firefox?

am on windows xp,but think it's about time to upgrade pc as it is soooo slow at times! didn't have this trouble before changing to IE8

Any tech-minded Shetlinkers out there? i am having trouble with my browser throwing me out every time i close a link that i have selected! I have recently upgraded to IE8,at Bt's suggestion. Please help!! This is getting a tad annoying!!
