  6. An interesting blog post from a Mr Roy Mayall.
  7. MMMmmmmm - Bacterial Excrement. Could do with some now.
  8. Answering machines that have a message which begins with something such as, "Hi, you have reached Melissa and Bob......". Had I actually reached Melissa and Bob then I would be talking to them!!!
  9. Errrm... A better idea would be to cut food waste by 70%. A far more achievable target don't you think? A simple example would be the cost of lamb. I could buy New Zealand lamb cheaper in the Co-op in Lerwick than I can buy it now in New Zealand. At the same time Shetland is exporting its lamb. Where is the sense in any of that? Lamb is a very simple example. Some foodstuffs simply aren't sustainable given the carbon footprint. Before people start spouting off about climate change/global warming/the rate of cows farting they should maybe try to deal with the simple things in life that actually make a difference!
  10. I was under the impression that the Isles accommodation initially came about because of the fact that many people were flown south at the last minute and Aberdeen being the way it is with oil workers couldn't find accommodation anywhere. I am quite disappointed that people do not think that the accommodation is "Up to scratch". As far as I am aware, the Shetland accommodation was never expected to be any more than emergency accommodation as and when needed. I have never seen nor stayed in the accommodation so I cannot comment on how appropriate it may or not it may be. I have, however, had to find a place to lay my head after my girlfriend had to be flown south, via Air ambulance, on deaths door at short notice. Had it not been for friends who were very accommodating then I would have been without a bed for several nights. I walked around all of the B&B's and Hotels that I could find (in the pishing rain) and they were all booked up. Before you start moaning about the state of the accommodation take a minute to think what it may be like if that wasn't available. If anybody knows of the charity involved that is trying to raise money then please let me know as I would be more than happy to donate.

  12. Fog in January is quite unlikely. You will find that a sudden flurry of snow or hurricane force winds are more likely to be the cause for cancellation of a flight at that time of year. If it is wind-related then the ferry will probably be cancelled as well. Luckily the snow doesn't seem to affect the ferry too much (apart from actually trying to get to it!).
  13. Somebody else may be better placed to answer this question but as far as I am aware there are no Internet Cafe's in Lerwick or Scalloway. I believe that you might be able to get wireless access at the Queens Hotel. You can also use the library in Lerwick for Internet Access. Which network is the broadband stick with? Some work and some don't!
  14. The answer? Taiwan rewards picking up dog droppings. Probably just as cheap as pink paint. 100 Taiwan dollars = about £2 quid
  15. You may be amazed of this thread which discusses the vocal abilities of various Radio Shetland presenters in great depth.
  16. They weren't! Thread now merged!
  17. Every time I watch it, it gives me ideas for working sharn! I wonder how many people would report a UFO before the truth was known?
  18. ^ that'll be the 4th time that has appeared in this thread now peerieb!
  19. The three four threads on the Usual Guardian weekend question have now been merged into one Usual thread. Have you ever considered a subscription?
  20. Nearly. "Old One any luck with the remote control or is it earplugs all round?"
  21. "Average age of a Shetlinker" is old enough for senility to creep in and cause extensive memory loss between reading the topic and then posting a reply. People regularly forget which thread they are posting in and tend to sway off-topic. We won't mention that it was my fault this happened! Back on topic please.
